quick (raw) idea: gw1 archeology
It’s an interesting idea, and one that could be a good way to insert additional lore into the game. (Mind you, a part of me is beginning to think that the current writers prefer not to flesh out the lore unless they absolutely have to, in the name of having more space to operate in the future.)
The “Current Events” arcs indicate that they are in a position to implement ‘side-stories’ outside of raids, so things like this could fit in as a Current Events arc.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Awesome idea. I would love to follow this along.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Sounds interesting.
As someone who works in the real-life heritage world I would love this!
I really like the idea. I’ve always liked WoW’s archaeology profession (which works very similarly to your idea), but I also have felt as though it would be SO much better with more lore tied to it. Something like this in GW2 would be very interesting for me.
(should I post it on reddit if I want a dev to see it?)
…then what’s the sense of an offical forum?
I like it. The game could use quests like this to add variety to things to do.
I’d post it on Reddit, the (un)official forum, if I were you. I’m not sure that they read this forum and they most definitely don’t post here like they do there. (Gayle reads it, it’s in her job description. The other staff members…..??? Probably not so much).
ANet may give it to you.

It’s become somewhat of an inside joke that the official forum is Tyria, and the devs are the seers, where they sometimes pop up for the most extreme pressing matters, but are otherwise nothing more than mentions in the wind, sometimes causing people to wonder whether they exist at all.
I like this as well, as long as it isn’t too GW1-focused (speaking as someone who hasn’t played that and doesn’t care about the humans in this setting). As RoseofGilead said, WoW introduced something like this in Cataclysm, but that was when I quit so I don’t know/remember too much about it other than that it was fun to just go and dig and find little bits of lore.
Also, they could give us collections/trophies from it and let us display them in the home instance if we choose, to give that forgotten place a purpose other than holding some gathering nodes. I liked the recent addtion of Ridhais and that golem from the new map to the home instance. More additions are always welcome, be it more NPCs or our own memorabilia or maybe a collection of Jotun pottery.
This idea would fit perfectly for one of my characters, as she is a member of the Priory, wears the traditional Priory clothes and weapons, and is an aspiring archaeologist.
Yes, I like this idea very much.
