replacement discs
Sorry if this is the incorrect place to post this
i have bought the game as a digital copy
the dload/install is approx 14GB, i have a good internet speed but this is painful and is taking a v v long time to dload especially when i get my line throttled by my isp at key times.
does anyone know how i can go about getting the disc so idont have to dload 14GB+
you still have to download it…..
What the whole 14gb? whats the point of the discs then?
The discs have the core files. When the data on the discs is combined into one big DAT file, it is 13.5GB. From there, you must download the rest of the updates.
ASUS Sabertooth Z77 | 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866MHz @ 2400MHz
Samsung 840 PRO 512GB SSD | Windows 10 x64
so the discs would install not dload the files and then updates are dloaded? …. thats what i thought would happen.
so desperate to get the discs so if i reformat etc i dont have to dload 14gb and max my internet cap
any suggestions
After downloading, copy the .dat on a usb drive and keep it as backup.
You can copy it after a format (or on any computer you want to play gw2 on), just download the .exe, abort the initial download attempt and copy the .dat in the game folder. Game starts and only has to update the few files that were added after you made the backup.
There is a problem with just copying the gw2.dat. During some updates the gw2.exe gets updated as well, when this happens the older copy of the gw2.dat file is invalid and will not work. If the newer gw2.exe detects an older gw2.dat file it will in ignore it and start downloading the newer gw2.dat file that associated with the newer Gw2.exe. So for this to work you need to make regular backups of the gw2.dat file after the game updates. I know this is a pain but for those with slow Internet what’s 5 or 10 minutes time to copy the gw2.dat file after every update, then to wait hours for the game to download, if for some reason you need to reinstall the game. I would think there has to be a way to automated this some how, like a batch file that would copy the gw2.dat file when it detects that the file has changed just before windows shouts down. It would be nice if Anet would add this feature to the game as an option. When you log out of the game and there was an updates when you logged in, it would automatically copy the dat file to a path of your choice that would be located in the setup somewhere. This backup could include an installer file also. So for what ever reason you need to reinstall the game you could be back playing in minutes instead of hours
