i keep seeing them around certain spots (quite predictable behavior), and i keep reporting them. however, i’m not even sure the reports reach anyone.

is there any confirmation that bot reports are actually used for anything? because the bots are still there (i know they’re the same by their name – i also have them on my block list now, just to be sure)…

can’t be bothered to spend time on this if it’s not doing anything.

You have to report them Properly, meaning they would like you to send a video to exploits of you showing the bot,his name, his id,his movement, the map he uses etc etc. They wont just randomly bann any person, also dont forget how many random reports being made Everyday. Thus making a video and reporting them with proper information will speed up the process.

if you’re “lucky”, you can see some in the frostgorge area. they keep going into HOTW and visiting merchants/waypoints in the area (they also pop into hoelbrak sometimes).

it’s quite easy to notice them once you’ve seen a few of them. they do perfectly similar turns, jumps, that sort of thing.

where did they say this? doesn’t make sense to have an in-game report option called “botting” if it requires all this additional stuff. a video? that’s seperate software, they would never demand that for a report to be taken seriously?!

:P

i just wanted something that signified a Display Name in Guild Wars 2… but no numbers were allowed (and “gjk” is elsewise related).

but yeah, bot names do tend to look weird. but honestly, i’ve seen weirder stuff coming from actual players… ;P

You don’t have to send in video proof.

Anet tends to do the bot account bans in big waves. So, there might be some time between your bot reports and action being taken.

It also takes a lot of time to investigate and actually determine if it is a bot and not a person. And you want ANet taking that time to be absolutely sure, no matter how “obvious” it may appear. (And there will be data gathered on the way regarding how the botting is done which is important for future detection and prevention.)

BG: 52 alts, 29 lvl 80’s. They all look good, so I am done with the game: Oct 2014

Arenanet does not ban a bot straight away, a lot of the time bots are managed in bulk and so it’s actually helpful for them to wait a little while to see if they can catch more of them – rather than banning one and alerting the botter to the fact that their methods have been discovered – which means they can quickly change how their do it without losing ALL of their accounts.

i’m still curious as to whether we’re supposed to report a bot one time, or keep on reporting it when we see it.

They have said that they appreciate players reporting bots. Personally, if I were given to reporting them, I’d just do it once. However, does Anet really need players to report bots? I don’t know. If they are using their data appropriately, there is little need for players to report bots. That is, a bot has a distinctive signature that would be obvious when using various data-mining techniques. They shouldn’t need players to report them, but who knows.

I’d say report once. They do keep record of the reports and inundating them with the same report creates a bigger backlog for newer reports against different bots.

But yes, they do need to gather data and proof before they ban. People think it’s an overnight process and “It’s obvious! They don’t talk to me so they’re a bot!” But to be fair, I don’t reply to people messaging me out of nowhere either.

Whenever people talk to me, it’s because they want something. It’s as true in real life as it is in games.
