running is not fun anymore
The maps in Archeage are much larger than GuildWars so the need for mount is really not nessesery and how will a mount change the way you travel in the game you still have to control the mount the same way you control your charature as you run also Archeage has very few way points or portals to move around in a zone so to get to point to point in any map quickly you need that added speed a mount gives you. Yes mounts would be cool but not practical for GuildWars. It is not part of the GuildWars lore no race in Tyria ever adapted the need to ride on an animals back. The only thing that came close was riding in the worms in GuildWars1.
put the correct term in but not everyone has kittens
We’ve had hundreds of threads like these, mounts won’t be coming to gw2..and most threads about mounts will get removed.
Btw,i honestly think the mounting in Archeage is a dull experience,to be completely fair archeage as a whole is completely dull, the game feels like a job with everything you do..Gw2 is still miles ahead of archeage imo.
Also im kinda confused as how you think leveling and exploring in gw2 is boring while you dont find it boring in archeage ? Gw2 has an awesome atmosphere and the pve zones are Really well thought through and theres something pretty to see and to explore everywhere you look and go.While in archeage its all a bland, boring, empty big space with little atmosphere and it feels unfinished, unpolished.Look at their dungeons, its just pathetic to call it a dungeon at all.All the quests are the same,go kill 10 monsters because i say so,then pick 10 of these because i want you to,come back here so i give you some xp and silver and gtfo to the next guy who will give you the exact same quests again …yadayada.
Anyway…no mounts ;p

Mounts have a place in some games, and not in others. When you explore a map you unlock waypoints which are very cheap and immediate points of travel. Some might say we have too many way points but regardless, they are there.
It’s not very enjoyable from a pve perspective but it adds to the super convenience GW2 offers and greatly outweighs the need to add any sort of mount system. All mounts would do is let people skip content easier, and become broken in wvw.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
No mounts!…
Magic carpet coming to the gem store soon. There’s your mount.
Another mount thread?
Your sick of running 25 feet on GW2’s small maps? You are aware there are like 10-15 waypoints per map, right?
Mounts have no place in this game based on it’s design. Stop playing other games and trying to change GW2 into those games.
These moderator’s really need to start temp banning people or something for creating 100’s of the same threads and then announce it in large bold text to everyone who logs in so people can stop this nonsense.
NONONONONONONONO…unless they are underwhelming performance -wise
swiftness has to be max (33%)
we already have access to 25% through traits/skills/runes
we already have 15% gem store boosters
so if you add mounts, they can’t be more than 15% speed boost……..which makes them purely cosmetic (i’m fine with that) but completely lame and worse than what most builds can already do %speed-wise.
i’d rather they spend their time on more worth-while things
MARA (EU) Gunnar’s Hold
I’d trade in all the waypoints in all the zones for realistic travel. Sad part is, the maps are too small to accommodate anything but running.
If you think that walking distances between point A and point B in Guild Wars 2 is bad and/or too much, try playing Guild Wars 1 again/for the first time. I haven’t played GW1 in over a year or two and started a new character again the other day because I was getting bored with GW2 and all I could think was ‘Oh my God, where are my waypoints. I have to walk everywhere and for such long of distances!’ Also, in my opinion, we have too many waypoints as it is in GW2. This makes it very to easy to get to point A to point B, thus making mounts unnecessary, other than showing them off.
Getting to events late or just as they finish isn’t much fun either…hence for this game…waypoints > mounts.
Just saying.
I always see the need for mounts and expansions in gw2 as a form of wanting it to be like WoW. But hey, exploration in GW2 wasn’t as a pain as it was in GW1.
I also have an appreciation for Archeage, and I wouldn’t “mind” mounts of some sort in GW2 (they’d have to have some purpose other than speed though. WPs make that moot). But I don’t really feel a need for them either.
Even in AA I don’t have any special love of the mounts though. What I find more compelling are the ships / vehicles. Imagine if we could have airships here, or if they introduce Cantha and the way to get there is via a ship sailing south on the ocean (or an airship). And I don’t mean just a loading screen and then you’re there. Like have a whole zone or multiple zones of just ocean (maybe with some small islands). Make the waters treacherous enough that, though you can swim it, it’s not exactly recommended, and you can get a number of people to Cantha more effectively with a ship. Plus ship battles (sea and air) would make for a cool new pvp / wvw mechanic. PVE too. Have events out on the seas where you can put those cannons to use.
I’m greatly looking forward to building my Lutesong Junk galleon in AA (I’m foregoing a Clipper to save up) and I wouldn’t mind one bit if GW2 had anything even remotely like being able to do that. Something like that I find far more meaningful than anything I get to have or do in this game.
On an unrelated note, I was playing GW2 a good bit tonight and kept wanting to activate my glider from every elevated area, then remembered I didn’t have one. Felt kind of like wanting to dodge in other games (including AA).

You’re joking right? You just said that archeage is boring compared to guild wars 2, how about we talk about content, what does guild wars 2 have to offer once you hit max level? Fractals? Grinding the same dungeons every day? Annoying rng world bosses that never give you anything worthwhile? Let’s be honest here guild wars 2 is an amazing game that will last a hardcore gamer or player a couple of months, and I know you will say “But guild wars 2 isn’t for hardcore players!”, I know it isn’t for hardcore players but at least they could add some quality content where you can farm or grind and stay busy rather then finishing new content in two days and then going back to grinding dungeon for that new gem store skin. Come on Archeage is much better as far as rewarding content and stuff to do, they have raids, dungeons, world pvp, arenas, and not easy to obtain in a few days gear which keeps you busy, they even have ships in the game how awesome is that? Guild wars 2 is great but at the end of the day is seriously lacking content. As for mounts no one wants to spend 10 minutes getting back to where they died in WVW or in Pve “Oh but we have waypoints!” Honestly waypoints are nice but sometimes it’s nice to just explore the world instead of having to run everywhere, mount’s could be great end game content too you could make certain mounts drop from certain bosses or mobs so much can be done with this game but we have too many people saying no no no to adding any content that resembles what wow has and that will be the fall of this game.

nopenopenope, No mounts! If you want to move faster (i gues there is a mount for?) make yourself a warrior…
and like someone else mentioned in post, if you really want to ride a mount, buy a witch broom or incoming flying carpet…
@Relshdan
That’s not underwhelming enough. You’ll have people asking for mounted combat with that!
Introduce mounts, 3250 gems or whatever. Obviously it has to be just over a multiple of 800.
They move at -33% of run speed. Hopefully that comes out midway between walking and running. Seems appropriate for a rented horse.
Also they must need feeding, or they die; and cleaning up after…
I’m really not sure how mounts would work in this game, even if ANet were to implement them. I mean, you have various races at various sizes, with different anatomies. Can you imagine a Charr riding a horse? It would look ridiculous. Aside form that, Charr already run on all fours so from a lore point of view, they should be as fast as, or faster than any four-legged mount they’d be able to ride (cats take up a few of the fastest land speed slots in our animal kingdom, including the top spot).
The only way I see it working is if you got race specific mounts. Charr get various coal/steam powered vehicles. Asura get hovering, technological stuff. Humans get more traditional horses, etc. Norns get… giant bears… or something. I’m not even sure what Sylvari should get. O_o
Aside from that, this game doesn’t really need mounts, for the reasons others have pointed out above. It would mostly be a cosmetic addition that has no real practical purpose, unless they introduce new, expansive map areas that are so large and so under-waypointed that using mounts in those areas actually becomes necessary. Considering the rate at which ANet has expanded the world map over these past two years, I can’t foresee any such map types coming into existence in the near future.
If they put mounts in game they will earn more money thru gem store….
If they put mounts in game they will earn more money thru gem store….
This is almost certainly true. However if they do that, they have to be careful to give people basic mounts in game…only mount “skins” that don’t gave extra speed should be available in the gem store. Not that I suspect mounts are coming, but if they are, you shouldn’t have to pay to get that advantage.

No about AA – it is about the same size but there is plenty of map in AA where there are no mobs at all – like ESO. I don’t get it.
In GW2 we have plenty of waypoints to get around. WE DON’T NEED MOUNTS.

No they won’t get more money – they have a silly mount in the CS and not many people bought it.
Like the armor skins in this game – there is a lot of testing that has to be done since the races are so different. IN AA they are not – they are basically all humanoid – even the ‘cat race’ is basically humanoid with a tail and ears.
if OP like mounts in Archeage I recommend him to stay there and stop spreading mount disease here.
i don’t get what the big deal is about mounts
rift expansion next week, go have a land shark
i remember 9dragons had lightfoot and no waypoints
gw2 travel is skill based, that’s just how the game is designed
Mounts are a Guild Wars tradition stretching all the way back to the original game, as commemorated by this wonderful mini.
Another cleverly disguised mount thread.
One thing, i love gw2…
They always type this. Mounts, instanced raids, anything some other game has that this doesn’t, “I love Guild Wars 2”.
Back in the day, dwarves rode dolyaks and the occasional drake. Nowadays, the dredge have transports. Why would everyone else eschew the use of enhanced modes of transportation?
Norn would probably have skis and sleds, at the very least.
Charr would surely be well on their way to developing personal transport by now, possibly in the form of motorcycles or 3- or 4- wheeled all terrain vehicles.
Asura, especially now that they are living above ground among all the big people, would surely have devised some artificial means of keeping up.
Humans would probably be breeding oxen or raptors or moas or something to take the place of horses, which seem to have gone extinct for some reason. Priory scholars might even be working out how to make horseless carriages.
Ya know, opening up new zones, particularly those which are more remote and/or in dangerous areas, would be a grand place to introduce ‘mounts’. Which would make more sense than waypoints automagically being there…

And we have Asura Leyline Waypoints which allow us to travel from Rata Sum to any place in Ascalon in mere one second.

UHH, that is NOT a mount. MOBS don’t count as the rider NEVER GETS OFF THE MOUNT and when you kill the mount/rider – they both die.
There are NO MOUNTS in GW1 that were not situational, like the WURMS in the Desolation. If you got out of the Wurm you died. Also you couldn’t use the Wurm in any other place.

Waypoints are not quite on par with Star Trek transporters yet.
Wouldn’t it be hilarious if the profusion of waypoints was what got the elder dragons all stirred up? Who knows what other as yet undetected consequences may even now be, uh, consequencing!
The beauty of so many games being a free(ish) model is you can play many games to get any type of fix you require.
Waypoints fulfill the need of fast travel, so all mounts would add is more visual clutter to the game.
Yeah it sucks, but what can you do? Until they introduce mounts or provide all classes with passive boost from skills (not traits, which is just a terrible idea). There need to be some sort of fast travel; WP do not cover all area, so you have these long gaps you need to walk. Take EotM as an example: you take a jump at the wrong angle and fall to your death – and now you have to cross the entire map on foot to rejoin your team. They can set mounts to vanish as you enter combat just like the broom from gem store.

What do you not understand about no end game? This game has none! That is why people want things like mounts, dueling, raids, better pvp, arenas! Why? Because they keep people playing! People need to realize that this game will not survive if it keeps going on like this, living story with one hour content that gives you greens and blues is not enough. If you are fine with that you obviously don’t care about the game and are selfish, just because YOU dont like mounts doesn’t mean others don’t, believe it or not some people actually like this game which is why they want mounts they don’t want to play wow, archeage, tera, or rift they want to play Guild Wars 2! Mounts add end game if implemented right, as of right now the only good drops in game are precursors which drop every other year, so honestly adding mount drops to certain bosses would add some end game that this game is seriously lacking.

If it brings in more revenue, anet will prolly do it… Outside of a boxed xpac, anet’s revenue will continue to be gemstore…Anet’s gemstore has shown casuals will eat up skins lol… if they add mounts but keep all the awesome skins in the gemstore, the revenue will be quite a welcoming boost to anet and NCsoft’s higher ups…
In terms of Business, I could see anet adding mounts…I personally doubt the majority of the playerbase would whine much about it (unless they give special stats to mounts from gemstore…) Waypoints + mounts would please a lot of players.
Mounts are unnecessary and screen clutter. If Anet really wanted to make more revenue, they would add more armor (not outfits) to the gem store as this would appeal to a much wider range of players.

I like Starcraft 2, but I feel like it would improve if I could play as the marine in a FPS style and turn the tide of battle through my FPS skill instead of my RTS skill. I love Starcraft 2.
Just because I love the game doesn’t mean my suggesting a change to the fundamentals of the game wouldn’t undermine the core concept of the game. Waypoints fulfill the need for fast travel, and there are other ways of showing and looking cool. I don’t feel like I have to respond to your argument on raids/dueling/more pvp arenas because they aren’t relevant to the topic at hand and would only serve in the derailing of the thread.

Quit spreading misinformation, the developers have not ever stated they will never add mounts. In fact in the same interview where it was stated they wouldn’t be in at launch, the same interview you and everyone purposely misinterpret as stating there will never be any mounts, that same developer blatantly states they are a possibility for future development.

No Mounts Ever…..
Thank you Ravion! I was looking for that gif :P
takes a drink
going to be one of those days
A mount is already in the game. Riding Broom in gem store can be double clicked to fly around on said broom. Data miners have also found a vein of magic carpets in their digging which may be available for purchase in the near future. It moves at regular move speed FYI.
What you actually want, a item that increases move speed that is not based on class abilities, also exist in Candy Corn which can be popped for sugar rush buff which gives move speed for a while if I remember correctly. also kites for Dry Top exist that give a move bonus during sand storm.
I would recommend visiting your classes sub forum and asking about good movement set ups. Some classes can be pretty quick with right build and open world doesn’t need as min-maxed for combat effectiveness for most content.
Mounts? We already have mounts!
Your mount you’re so looking for in GW2.
Only problem with those is that they’re only in EotM.
Works same as GW1 Junundu and Siege Devourers:
- Transformations
- Modifies stats
- Has limitation to specific maps
- Replaces skill bar with one according to the mount.
Possible that we get new areas where these mounts are accessible, like the Junundus in GW1…
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.
(edited by FrostSpectre.4198)
I am on the “no-mounts” side in GW2. It’s just not part of the game design, for all the reasons stated in all the threads that mushroom up on the topic.
That said, I do hope that any new game in the future does use a lot of the AA model. Freely available via an easy low level quest, excellent animations (I’m looking at you, WoW, with your humanoid front legs on horses and wings that flap backwards from the proper direction), persistent presence so you can dismount and still have the mount, some interesting mount-specific abilities to use while riding, a real sense of speed (I’m looking at you, TESO, with your running speed horses that have to be fed daily to get to any sort of sense of motion) … much as I dislike most of AA’s concepts, I feel they got mounts more right than any other MMO I’ve played. If, IF GW2 were to cave in and put in mounts, I’d want them to take all the fun parts of the AA design.
We’ve had hundreds of threads like these, mounts won’t be coming to gw2..and most threads about mounts will get removed.

Besides, I highly doubt that anet would ignore what is one of the most requested features from their playerbase. Take a look at GvG, for example. Gw2 was not designed around gvg, but the playerbase has requested it since forever, and there we are, with a GvG CDI thread coming sometime soon. Likewise, the game wasn’t designed with raids in mind, but now we all know they’re probably in the works.
… this game will not survive if…
They always cry ‘doom’, too. I used to think this was some form of a threat, but I’m beginning to entertain the idea that this is actually believed.
if you think the gvg minority having a cdi is going to save this game.. well goodluck
i remember when arena net was looking for feedback concerning the leveling process and we all know how well that turned out.. likewise putting niche features from other games mounts/housing should not be on their list of priorities.. this game is going to wither and die if they keep allowing talking points to dictate where it goes

The forums is not representative of the playerbase. Even if we say that it was, there has always been twice as many players against mounts as there have been for mounts.
