silly question.
Anet needs to make money. Currently they’re releasing a lot of free content and to help keep that up, they make new fancy things for people to buy.
This isn’t a subscription game, so it makes sense.
EDIT: Also what DeanBB said. They’re smarter than I am.

Multiple ways to acquire weapon skins are available in the game: buy off the gem store, open BLTC chests hoping for claim tickets, kill things, buy with in-game currency (such as karma), earn from achievements or collections, buy with gold on the trading post, exchange gold for gems and buy off the gem store, and more.

everything you mentioned has the word “buy” associated with it……..change that to adventure and killing mobs and youllchange my mind. 2 things u mentioned was acceptable killing things and achievement collections but skins in those categories are kinda lame and not worth the effort i feels.
Eddbopkins.2630i want to kill a boss to get a claim ticket or a peace of the mob to take back to some npc or something
This is in the game. You collect things and trade them in for things you want. Aka, currencies, of which karma was just one example. By way of extension, you also earn gold in-game which you can use for obtaining the skins you want. That’s a big part of the game, whether you trade it in for gems or buy off the TP.

trading in for gems or buying off the TP is not an adventure. and does not give me the feels good feelings when obataining zed skins. right now the only weapons i ever felt good and happy and had the warm feelings in my gut was when i got tequadals hoard. must of killed it 200+ times and got it twice. i was so happy each time. i put work in, i was there beating on the mob day in day out at the end of the day( years) i got an epic weapon. now all i see is get 50 black lion keys open 50 chest of uselessness and clutter and maybe still wont get what you actually want.
THIS right here is what im talking about…i feel so bad for that guy it hurts my mmo soul.

I guess my grips comes from gw1 days.times have changed and I guess my mmo vision should to. But this just saddens me disappoints me.
This is not a usual MMO, this is GW2.
You can have all your great adventures in the game no matter which game mode and still have the same chance to obtain most of the skins by collecting gold.
The epic legendary armor, some boss exclusive gears are already locked behind certain pve contents. But there are a lot of players that don’t enjoy raid or triple trouble etc and got lock out from those skins. The game has to keep a balance for skin unlock between game modes.

But you can get certain things from killing specific mobs. There’s a focus you can only get from the chest after killing the shadow behemoth. Etched weapons are only drops from the Jormag Fight. There are raid rewards too.
Fractal weapons can drop in fractals from daily chests.
Hell I got two really nice pinnacle weapons from achievement points.

Your memory of GW1 is selective. Skins were available in all the same ways. There were hats from festivals (originally: you need be present to win), player trading, random drops, RNG from boxes from different game modes, and scavenger hunts too. Some required tokens, some were gated by content.
Keep in mind that there are millions of MMO players. A popular game needs to appeal to all sorts, so there need to be all sorts of skins and all sorts of methods of acquisition. You can be happy that this game offers lots of skins that follow your preferred system.
Of course, it’s up to you whether to worry that other people prefer other ways to get their shinies. I would imagine, though, that you’d enjoy the game more if you accepted that other people like different things.
why are the new weapons/skins buyable? what happened to an adventure to get the cool new weapons/skins? what has MMOs become? i want to go on an adventure, i want to kill a boss to get a claim ticket or a peace of the mob to take back to some npc or something more then just take my gold and have a chance to get cool things…..this way is not for me.
You do kill bosses (or regular enemies) or complete activities in the game to get ‘claim tickets’ – that’s exactly how gold, karma, dungeon tokens, WvW badges and the numerous other tokens which can be used to get equipment and skins work. And there are hundreds of weapon and armour skins available through those methods.
Other items come directly from achievements, from crafting them (with stuff collected from enemies and the environment) or as drops. And just like GW1 and most other MMOs you also have the option of trading your drops for others by selling what you got to another player through the TP and then buying what someone else got, which dramatically increases the chances of getting some of the rarest drops.
You even have the option of buying gem store skins with gold earned by playing the game, something which as far as I’m aware very few other games offer.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
We just had a quest to acquire Weapon(s) and skins just previous to this latest BLTC offering. Have you looked acquiring all those Weapons?
Anet said they create armors and weapons in two styles:
Gem Store team creates armors, weapons, and outfits to be sold in the gem store. This is to make a steady stream of money income.
Then there is another team that also makes item skins, but they make them for adventures. Because of the resources it takes to make them, they don’t make them much. They are reserved for festivals, or special events. Otherwise, they will be connected to expansions or living stories. But mostly expansions. Like HoT gave us a few armor and weapon sets, and so will the next expansion do. A dev has said as much.
It’s simply a high workload to make, so they need money in return, whether this money is in the gemstore, or the expansion purchase
HoT gave us
1 Armor
1.1 Bladed Armor
1.2 Leystone Armor
1.3 Guild Armor
1.4 Mistward (Heavy Only)
1.5 Miscellaneous Armor Pieces
2 Weapons
2.1 Auric Weapons
2.2 Chak Weapons
2.3 Reclaimed Weapons
2.4 Plated Weapons
2.5 Machined Weapons
2.6 Shimmering Weapons
2.7 Tenebrous Weapons
2.8 Gold Fractal Weapons
2.9 Elite Specialization Collection Weapons
2.10 Miscellaneous Weapons
3 Backpacks
3.1 Bough of Melandru
3.2 Auric and Luminate’s Backplate
3.3 Story Backpieces
3.4 Legendary Backpiece
3.5 Scribe Backpacks
3.6 Radiant and Hellfire Backpieces
Considering they had more time to prepare for the next expansion I think it’s fair to expect at least as many in the next, maybe not a lot more, though.

I agree, though, I can’t think of a grammatically correct sentence containing must of.
But then again, english isn’t my native tongue, so I might’ve missed a use for it
I can, if punctuation is allowed:
I must, of course, object to the use of “must of.”

That’s actually very few for an expansion for instance we can only count Reclaimed weapons in the trash category. Trash mobs and their loot tables typical have new weapon skins and armors in your typical expansion. It’s never anything special of course but nothing says MMO expansion than killing that first mob and getting a shiny new pair of pants.
That category is woefully lacking and what TC wants is from that category of killing the big bad and getting loot. I may be wrong but nothing akin to Tequatl weapon set or the Triple Trouble Wurm armor pieces exist in HoT. Heck GW even going back to GW1 is a game known for dishing out special weapon sets at the very end we got a set for Zhaitian just like we got a set for Shiro but no free token to pick up a free weapon for Mordremoth heck we got greens(legendary) in Gw1.
