skill points for new skills
Not sure what the problem is? I still got 1070 to spend.
25 really isn’t hard to get if you farm champs.

25 isn’t really hard if you’ve done anything aside from being afk in LA for the past few days.
Not only do you get a ton of experience for doing just about everything, but the skill point scrolls drop everywhere as well.
I was imagining a pvp character with 0 experience
Yet every other skill is 1-10, these new ones seem a tad excessive. After all, are they elite?
Guess my low level alts will have to wait a bit to get these. So dumb to gate these new heals, which aren’t elites, behind such a high cost. Makes champ farming with my 80s a necessity.

Is it excessive for a newbie? Yeah
Is it necessary for anyone who’s been playing and they need a skillpoint sink so they don’t have the thousands most of us have now? Yeah

There are plenty of skill point sinks in the game that are very profitable for those who have the savvy to use them. If you keep SPs just because you don’t feel like using them, that’s on you.
The new healing skills are OP. They should have been locked behind 50 SP to get.
New skills are supposed to serve as a means of horizontal progression. Progression is supposed to take time. This gives goals to players who want goals, and buys time for the developers to roll out the next goals. Given the above, 25 skill points is not a lot.

the much touted “horizontal progression” is now a skill point sink? that’s more like diagonal progression…
The recent Healing skill (Antitoxin Spray) from the previous living story release cost 25 skill points.
Not sure why we should expect the new Healing skills would be any different.
I guess it is different for those of us who have a Main with 1000 skill points available.

So you want to log in and get the skill for free?
Anyone who plays even casually should have bucketloads of skill points. I’ve got 150+ sitting on most of my characters.

nice reductio ad absurdum but i was thinking closer to standard skill point amount

I have not had to spend skill points on skills in a long time but I thought the final tier of skills cost 30sp to unlock? It has been about 10 months since I have needed to unlock it sorry if I do not remember the number correctly. But really 25 skill points can be an easy week of 1 hour a night playing.

And I had a problem with that too. Especially because, despite being permanent, it’s a skill designed specifically around temporary content.

Seems like a good AOE heal that also removes conditions? And yet it was specifically designed around temp content, are conditions being removed from game?
For what it’s worth, I agree with the OP that they should be consistent. A new player should be able to look at his healing skills and be able to choose whichever he likes for the same skill price, consistently. To see one at 25 skill points inherently means that this skill must be better than all of the others because it costs more, and when it’s not… well…

It’s actually really bad, honestly, and it does have a mechanic specifically targeting the “toxin” effect from that LS event.
Guaranteed removal of poison, torment, and confusion is a nice skill to have. Although this would be more team oriented rather than solo purpose. But this side tracks the main topic which is I think the 25 sp is a reasonable amount.

again you swing wildly to the other direction, the most expensive of elite skills cost 30 which they are not, they are regular healing skills.

Just providing examples, if you look at the progression over time everything started increasing in sp price. I have seen some pretty not effective elite skills, so it would not be how good the skill was but rather a progression of time that increased its cost. Going by that, it only makes sense that the new skills added would be at an increased cost. Really A-net could have made them above 30 points but instead found a reasonable amount to set them at.
If every skill point was set at a horizontal progression they would all cost the same, at which point you would have to find a good amount, you could say everything was set at 15sp. But then for new characters how would that work out? so then you could set them at a lower amount, maybe at 5 sp each? But again to have a new character wait 5 levels before getting a new skill is a bit harsh. So the remedy is to set them at a relatively smooth increase.
The new skills are not targeted for new players, they are targeted at veteran players who are looking for ways at diversifying their builds. The players who have been playing the game long enough to understand what adding another skill can do for builds.
Try not to think of this as a new skill that should be on par with where you believe it ranks into, this is a new skill all together. In doing so it should follow the same progression all the other skills followed.
If this still doesn’t work, the best bet would be to ask for a change in the overall skill progression. A system which has worked from launch, but now with the new skills would need a complete change.

If I recall each profession (at least the 5 that I have) has 2 healing skills that cost 1 skill point and another that costs either 3 or 6 skill points to learn. Then anti toxin came out at 25, and now we have another profession specific one at 25.
25 ?? really?
Be happy we wont have to buy it from the gem store. :p
imagine starting the game fresh.
“oh, look, new healing skills. 5 SP, 5 SP, 5 SP, 25 SP … that must be the OP one, I’ll save up for it”

So none of the new heal skills are designed for <80s? My lvl 51 ele can’t use the new arcane heal while leveling? That’s a shame; looked fun. I can’t experiment with that snazzy new Mesmer signet heal? Drag, seemed cool enough to make me pick my lvl 53 Mesmer up again for phantasm builds.
Bad argument. Not to mention that these aren’t end-game-only skills. They’re not new elites. They’re on par with the rest of our heal skills. If they were OP then nobody would use the old skills and that’s not what Anet wants. You’re misunderstanding progression. This is a broadening of options. It’s not going to make your playing trancendent. These heal skills offer new playstyle possibilities, but they shouldn’t be reserved for 80s only. I’m a veteran player with multiple alts. Why should my Engi benefit but my Mesmer has to suffer?

Nothing is stopping a new character from saving up 25 skill points.
Nothing is stopping a new character from saving up 25 skill points.
Except for having no utilities to use in the meantime.
I’ve been longwinded, but ultimately my point is simply that the argument of having hundreds of stored SP on 80s is invalid due to the inaccessibility of these skills to low level characters.

Agreed. Who cares if I have a lvl 80 with ~400 ish skill points. My lvl 80 alts all have <10 as I’ve been trying to finish getting them to learn any remaining skills.
I could stomach anti-toxin being 25 skill points, but I don’t see how these new skills are.
We start the game with 1 healing skill for free, another costs one skill point, the last costs 3. Why does this new one cost 25? The healing is on par (in some cases worse) that current healing options, so why is it so expensive for new comers.
My friend just started playing last week. He doesn’t have a roster of lvl 80s or a stack or two of skill point scrolls from champ bags. Why should this new skill cost almost as much as the highest cost elites?
Why should this new skill cost almost as much as the highest cost elites?
Why should Ascended weapons and armor have a materials cost list that is longer than my forearm?
For the answer to both questions, refer to the last 12 months of discussion about the whys of Ascended. Progression costs are being scaled to keep players busy. Frankly, I expected the cost to be higher.
