skills traits unlock system is unfriendly
for example,
for the warrior elite spec, i will only be using
3 minor traits (adept, master, grandmaster)
1 adept trait, 1 master trait, 1 grandmater trait
0 rage skills
but the current unlock system forces me to unlock everything,
this is stupid and unacceptable.
I have to admit, I liked the old system too – where there was a tree and you picked the skills you wanted, in the order you wanted. It’s almost as if it used to be… play as you like! But linear is the new black, it seems.
Oh well, fully unlock it then. It was already reduced to 250 points, takes maybe two hours of your time.

The cost of the unlock is heavily discussed elsewhere and isn’t really the point in this post – if I understand the OP correctly.
The point here is that the skills/traits progression has been made somewhat linear and requires unlocking everything, as opposed to a play-as-you-like style that could have been and was in the case of the skills tree from way back.
The OP’s mention of the 250 points highlights how the above issue was addressed not with more variety but with a simplistic reduction of the cap. At least, that’s my understanding.

Well, that sucks. Imagine you would have to get 400 HP’s like many did to unlock it. Do people do nothing but complaining things are not easy enough for them?
this system gets you to experiment with your build as you unlock it rather than just picking out something or reading a guide

With all due respect, you seem fixated on the wrong point. This isn’t about the ease of the process. It’s about the change from options to less options.
This is the best system they’ve had so far.
Please stahp
you have plenty of options, you just dont get your Perfect Build right away
it’s pretty obviously deliberate that IE grandmaster traits dont unlock until later on

You’re welcome to your opinion, but demanding a stop to a discussion seems a tad draconian.
I think the lumping of traits and skills in this post was counter-productive and confusing. I would argue, on the case of skills alone, that they used to have a better system. There used to be a tree with tiers where you had to unlock a certain number of skills in each tier to unlock the next tier. Now, you get a wheel and the skills are unlocked in a linear order, albeit with a little flexibility in which of the wheels you progress. That’s my opinion.

And I’m telling you it doesn’t matter since it takes basically no time to fully unlock it.

That has been debated to death in other posts and I’m staying out of it. All I was saying is that I agree with the OP on one point – the reduction of flexibility in choosing skills.
i very much prefer the old system where i can choose which skill to unlock.
the new system forces us to unlock things in an order dictated by them.
I think the old skills tree offered a more play-as-you-like style. Just my 2c.

yes, the guild wars 2 that was originally launched 3 years ago was definitely play-your-way but now, no.
it is strictly play-their-way
Are you seriously complaining about it being 250 HP now? You want it to be even less
Really??

no, i’m complaining that we are forced to unlock in the stupid order that is forced upon is.
the reason why its been set in the orders, is to actually Prevent you from having the Elites without Opening the full tree, its encouragement to do the lands and not skip content so u dont rush to the end and say ur bored.
they dont want players unlocking the first 7 and saying Done thats it finished. they want them to do all 250 grind.
250 is Enough done.. and imho it shouldnt be played with anymore, It’ll start taking away from the point of it even costing HPs if we keep reducing the requirement.
would have preferred this change Over the reduction to 250 points tho… i just dont like the Idea of BOTH reductions existing.
perhaps i was not being clear with what i originally wrote.
i do not mind if the total number of hero points to unlock everything is 400 or 250.
however, i am bothered that we are forced to unlock all traits and skills in an order that is forced upon us by them.
at least split up the traits and skills.
why should i spend hero points to unlock skills that i will never use?

they could have at least separated the traits and skills.
skills could be unlocked in this manner
unlock healing skill
unlock choice of 4 utility skills at your own order.
once all 4 utility skills are unlocked at your own order.
unlock elite skill
for traits
unlock minor adept trait
unlock choice of 3 major adept traits at your own order
once all 3 adept traits are unlocked at your own order.
unlock minor master trait
unlock choice of 3 major master traits at your own order
once all 3 major master traits are unlocked at your own order.
unlock minor grandmaster trait
unlock choice of 3 major grandmaster traits at your own order
it would be much better if done this way.
at least we have some choice.

I seriously doubt MANY got 400, given the demographic of GW2 players few have the ability to play 20 hours a day as at least one person complaining about this change says they did.
No need to play 20h a day
I think they, at least, should have split it in two wheels.
One for traits, one for skills. With an “unlock specialisation” button (the first step of the current wheel)
