lol I know, what I mean is sure getting SAB is awesome and all that, but does this means its the end of the “mechanics” from past years? is next year going to be SAB only again? which I wouldn’t mind, but would be nice to see a little mechanic that you can later buy from gesmtore

Oh I see what you mean. I hope not. I was happy to see SAB return and the amusing patch notes but I do miss the antics from the usual April fools activities.

April fools has been suspended indefinetly.

I would say it’s over and done with now thanks to all the people complaining after last year’s one. This is something that is becoming a thing now even in the real world. Google got hit with a similar issue this year with a minion gag they tried to pull off. People are just so touchy these days that businesses and such have to tread carefully.

It’s sad but I think it’s over in game now.

PS, this is a game so it is serious business anyway, you should NOT expect fun and games here. :P

I hate the (in my opinion) stupid pranks but lets face it, it’s only one day. If it bothers you take a day off to go outside.

It was actually the most amazing April Fools day prank ever.

First communication from Anet in a year that actually communicated they aren’t out of touch with the problems of their game.

You got SAB this year. It’s not completely new, but it certainly was unexpected (a lot of people had given up on ever seeing it again). Also this year: the devs are shaking up their internal organization and re-prioritizing, so it seems unlikely that they were going to manage SAB and a completely new one-time mechanic; SAB is tons of work on its own.

That doesn’t make this year precedent for the future.

This. Considering what they had just announced for legendary weapons if they had come out with some one day only content it would have been like pouring gasoline on a fire.

So instead of in game April Fools, they decided to do a very smart and yet still funny April Fool’s Day prank. Fake patch notes. That seemed to poke at areas we players find problems with, showing that they’ve at least read our posts and know what our problems with the game are.

I don’t think you’re going to get a direct answer one way or the other. Hopefully, they cook up something silly and new next year, because I always enjoy the pranks, but I think it’s pretty great that they brought back SAB again, too. That seems worth another “visual filter” prank, easily.

They probably don’t even know what they’re doing next year for April 1 yet. I imagine they’ll figure that out when they see how well SAB Festival is received, then examine what resources they expect to be available, along with what people on the team want to do. From both a prank and a business perspective, it makes sense to keep it quiet for now.

If you are aware of all of that, why are you questioning now what will happen in a year? There’s currently no reason to wonder, since they haven’t done anything to rule out the tradition continuing (or restarting, depending on your point of view). Even if they have considered the question of whether they can ‘afford’ to keep up the pranks every year, most of the pranks have needed something like 3-6 months lead time max, so it’s at least another 6 months before they have to decide.

tl;dr (again): there’s no reason for the tradition to have changed — and even if ANet needs to re-evaluate, they don’t decide for months and months
