solo play
I like the idea that dungeons should be solo. Let them adjust in difficulty based on the number of players.
To be honest, I only want this for the story modes. Let me do my story without needing 4 other people, please.
How rude of ANet to expect us to play with other people in this MMOrpg..

There are more solo players in MMOs than many would believe.
It’d be awesome to be able to easily do dungeons with variable numbers of people. I reckon it would be a big undertaking for A-net to implement, so like Stale said, just story dungeons would be pretty awesome.
I play GW2 with my boyfriend. I don’t enjoy PUGs that much- often the party environment is sterile or hostile. I think I’d do a lot more dungeons if solo-ing or duo-ing was possible (and reasonably scaled).
But to answer your question, Ashalind, all dungeons currently recommend 5 players in the party. It is possible in some dungeons to complete them with fewer, or even solo, but not for the casual player. Many dungeons have mechanics which make it near impossible with less than 5 (CoF P1 springs to mind, the gate before the end boss where 1 person attacks the controller and 4 people are required to stand within fiery “cages”).

ANet hasn’t so much at glanced at dungeon in… well I’m not sure how long but definitely talking about months if not years here. Would be nice if it could scale, but ANet doesn’t seem interested in instanced group content and they haven’t been for a long time.
I recently bought GW1 Prophecies, and imo this henchmen system is lame. Sure, it’s useful now that nobody is playing the game anymore, but in a lively game like GW2, why is it so hard to just find four people to play with you? It’s a collaborate game! MMOs are boring if you play them on your own. If you really want to solo dungeons, get really good and you still can.
problem is if you are a player who isn’t that good, you have indeed problems to find a group or you will be kicked out if you dont have the proper stats and play bad so thats why i want to play solo sometimes for nice things

Unless you party for chat/conversation, how is running an instance with four people more boring than running it with heroes/henchmen? Some found it rather interesting to control and tinker with the builds of the heroes in GW2 as well as challenging to do content that was relatively easy with people but quite difficult with heroes. Also, doing an occasional casual instance with AI NPC’s means you can do whatever you like, like bailing in the middle of a dungeon if your kid interrupts you, without negatively affecting someone else’s player experience. Different strokes for different folks.
I support having a solo mode for dungeons. Since most of the players doing dungeons are all bout the speed runs it would give some players the opportunity to view cut scenes and also play as fast or as slow as they like.
