[sugestion] locked bank account
It’s an idea. But then there’s always the people who forget their password and then have to bother support about it.
ANet may give it to you.
If the player has over 100k gold i would much rather send the ticket instead of the slight possibility of being hacked.
Percentage wise, I doubt that many players have 100k gold.
ANet may give it to you.
But still, even 1k gold is alot to some. It feels nice knowing its in a secured vault.
True. I’m just wondering how practical is it, knowing how easy it is to forget passwords, especially with people who come and go in the game. Are there other games with the ability to lock access to gold that don’t have problems?
ANet may give it to you.
Only game i recall doing that, which is embarrassing to admit, is maplestory. Ive never seen any complaints about forgetting their passcodes.they used 4 digit numbers for the password

It would still be nice having the option to set one. Those players who dont want to be bothered entering a passcode everytime they access their bank wont have to. But for the players who dont want to take any risks will have the option

There’s already screen name + pw which is first line of protection, then email and the optional SMS (text) login authorization. Someone would have to get through all those and bruteforce your phone/number to allow themselves access to your account. And really they’d need a decent pc/programs for such things. Also it’s pretty much a lottery for them. Unless they personally know you ingame and what you have, it really isn’t worth hoping for a big payout by hacking accounts.
There’s a lot of ways someone could attempt to, but if they don’t know what you have – why go through all the trouble? Now if someone was flaunting their wealth on the forums or ingame, then sure they’re just inviting it. Anonymity is your best defense anywhere online.
i just get nervous since my account name and password has been breached multiple times in other games.i like extra security.
Do you have SMS enabled? good passwords?
ANet may give it to you.
I dont have sms but i do have a good password.
You really should get SMS, or the email one if you don’t like handing out your phone number. It makes a big difference in account security. Hackers can’t get in your account unless you let them in (or they also hack your phone number/email, in which case gw2 is the least of your considerations). Knowing that a hacker will be stopped by needing authorization by me is a great peace of mind.

I wouldn’t be against this idea. However, I think it’d be better (and cheaper, since Anet wouldn’t have to put man hours into it) to just have two-step verification and a good password.
You already have insurance against losing any Gold in your bank. If your account is compromised, the CS Team restores your account (to a time before the compromise). Thus, no real need for a password on the bank.
Unless, of course, you did not want anything (characters, items) restored on the account, except the missing Gold.
Good luck.
There’s already a second level of security: two-factor authentication.

Only one I’ve run across is Aion. It uses user ID & password plus up to an 8 digit numeric code at the character select screen to be able to log in. The numbers are set up as a key pad on screen that has to be mouse clicked and the numbers change position every time so there is no standard pattern.

Actually, that is not true. Someone just has to call Customer Service and convince them to unlock the account. With people sharing all their information in social media, its pretty easy for someone to find out enough personal information about you to convince a company that they are you. This is much easier than brute force hacking and happens all the time.

Runescape has a pin number system on their banks. I don’t recall there ever being much problems with it. Mind you it was a pain accessing the bank and having to imput the number every time. There was an option to turn it off which I suppose most people did which obviously made the whole system pointless for those players.

That’d be their fault for sharing so much information about themselves over social meda then. Anyone who’s concerned about their own security online would go through great lengths to limit any opportunities.
Still not barring someone with sole intent on breaching security measures. But if ‘said person’ had made past purchases in-game. I’m sure Customer Service would seek better means (i.e, card info, etc.) to assure that whom ever is looking to access an account has ‘that’ information, and compound it with any other info to cover themselves to prove it isn’t a fluke attempt to gain access.
It’d just be poor security service and protocol to believe someone trying to convince customer service that said person is someone they’re not without sufficient information provided.

Probably people turning it off is a big reason why devs don’t offer it.
Although maybe a compromise system. Have 2 places on your bank to put gold in, of which only one is lockable. That way you can put the bulk of your gold in the section that can be locked and have the rest of your gold in the easy accesss place for day to day expenses. The hacker will get the small amount of gold in the first section but can’t touch the large amount in the second section. People are much more likely to not turn the lock off if they only have to unlock occasionally to add or subtract to their savings.

If there’s going to be any extra security I’d prefer it to be on the whole account rather than just 1 portion of 1 currency. If they get into your account and take everything and delete your characters I can’t see that knowing part of your gold is safe is going to be much reassurance.
Also if someone does get into your account you can contact Support to get it back and then they’ll reset it to a time before it was hacked so you get everything back.
It sounds like the existing two-factor authentication system does what you want, except it protects your whole account. The way it works is any time you login from a new IP address you get a code sent either to your phone, email, or to a Google Authenticator on the PC and you have to put that code in to be able to log into the account.
Since hackers won’t have your phone, access to your email account or the authenticator on your PC they won’t be able to get the code and so can’t login.
It also means you’re notified any time someone tries to login to your account, so you know that they have your email address and password and are trying to get in, which means you can change the password to stop them even trying.
(Also if you’ve been hacked in every game you’ve ever played it sounds like your password isn’t as good as you think it is. Do you by any chance use the same email and password in other places, especially other games? Or on 3rd party sites like fan forums associated with a game? Those tend to have much weaker security than the games themselves, especially because it’s reliant on the admin keeping it updated and not everyone who decides to make a forum knows how to do that or remembers to do it regularly.)

Indeed, 2-factor does what the OP wants. Locking the bank with a code adds more inconvenience, without doing a better job of securing the account.
