What if we don’t want to be heroes anymore, and want to join the dark side… aka The White Mantle Spies?
Why not give us the ability to join them and fight against the “heroes” of Tyria? It won’t contradict our “main” living story, because we’re just spies of the White Mantle so in the LS we’ll pretend to be the heroes.

Imagine, a new map where players do events, but players can choose to join the enemy side. SO in a way, it is an open-world pvp, but it would be that map only, so it would not deter people. And whether good or evil wins, both sides get rewards.

Also not the entire map is pvp, only if you enter a specific zone in a specific event, that you turn into white mantle, so players can’t just randomly kill you.

Wouldn’t that be more fun than just killing npcs with the same events over and over.

Please nerf bag types instead of class skills!

I’ve been wanting to join the White Mantle, properly, ever since gw1. However given the current storyline, we could join Lazarus’ new White Mantle as they are a force for good. And considering the old White Mantle has been defeated.

Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death.

On the White Mantle topic, it’d be a very interesting plot. There currently are 2 White Mantle :

  1. Historic Unseen White Mantle : whose purpose was to bring Lazarus back to life
  2. Caudecus White Mantle : the geezer used the Historic’s faith to serve his own prupose, aka take over Kryta for megalomaniac reasons.

That last part are indeed labeled “bad guys” while the first one may be more or less neutral. But now that the Mursaat is back and taking into account his current behaviour, we can expect the White Mantle to be split into 3 currents :

  1. Caudecus White Mantle : which should anytime soon be extinct
  2. Good Lazarus White Mantle : their purpose would be to defeat the Elder Dragons, as this is what the Mursaat claims he wants
  3. Possibly evil Lazarus White Mantle : with some mischevious eveil scheme in mind.

That’d be really interesting plot-wise, because while the PC could join #2 as any other Order, #3 may still be active and it’d lead to more schemes and plots to be discovered while being part of the Mantle. I’d enjoy this a lot !

Now, for the Factions fighting each other, why not ? After all, we had factions in GW1.

Then, for open PvP, I’m strongly against. WvW is for this. There has been talks about enforcing an “order fighting each other” system in WvW but it was just player talks.

There already is open world PvP, it’s called WvW. Just head over there are pretend to be white mantle. You can even pick up the white mantle outfit from the gem store and buy some bloodstone weapons off of the TP.

And make a guild called the White Mantle with the requirement of white mantle outfits only.

Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death.

Lazarus hasn’t been confirmed good or evil yet. It may have been propoganda by Caudicus as the commander stated but there is now the possibility that the Lazarus we saw is an imposter

I wanna be a Largos White Mantle Flame Legion Shaman; her contacts with Scarlet’s old alliances make her the leader of all of them so she can rise up and take back Tyria for.. reasons.

Many alts; handle it!

ANet has never offered alternative paths for any of the epic stories (personal, expansion, living world, etc). At most, we choose between saving a friend or a village, a hospital or an orphanage.

I’d be surprised if they even considered changing directions at this point, especially with the community’s increasing appetite for new stuff. (And sure, playing the bad guys would be ‘new’; it wouldn’t, however, be ‘new stuff’ in the same sense.)

Apparently, you haven’t played the latest episode yet. There are no “forces of good” where you suggest them.

@topic: No, thank you. If you want to play villains, please pick a different game.

I’m not into role playing though.

Besides, my idea is different from WvW…it’s about specific events and zones you can enter into to fight each other and gain rewards. It’s just the same as any other maps (Lake doric etc), except instead of fighting npc, it will be other players… the objectives for each event will be different, whereas in WvW, the objective remains the same.

PvE is built entirely around cooperation. Not having to wonder if the player approaching you is going to steal your kill, steal your node, or kill you.

Now, I wouldn’t be opposed to them having the occasional weekend event where some PvE maps become more PvP. Like the branded event at the end of one of the Beta weekend events before the game launched.
