suggestion: rewards for commanding
Then everyone would tag and it will be a mess.
Yeah, 100 commanders on every map, sounds good.
Shouldn’t the reward be that you lead people to success and hence making everyone, yourself included, gain more loot/exp/whatever it is you’re looking for?
Wouldn’t it be nice if commanders get an extra reward?
For example, commanding a meta event in AB or TD… or WvW or a raid?Shouldn’t you get a special reward for doing more work…?
A commander that does MORE work? In what world…
Although, they could do a mastery line where squads could get buffs of some sort. That would be near.

My personal feeling about the need for rewards for WvW commanders is motivated by the folowing thoughts:
- Whithout a commander to lead (a) guild/pug squad(s), there is nearly zero activity on a WvW map (reproductibility: 99%)
- When a commander under huge pressures gently invite any player to tag up because he has been insulted for the last past hours, nobody propose himself (reproductibility: 99%)
- Tactics that saved a WvW season have NEVER been carried out by individuals on a T1 server, but ALWAYS by extraordinary commanders who against impossible odds succeeded to rally DEMOTIVATED players to a victory that was thought impossible
- When everyone flee like a coward, the commander IS FORCED to stay in the middle of the kitten taking place because he is the commander
and so on, and so on…
So, knowing that commanders have a necessary positive impact on the game, if i was a normal being, there is not a world in which i wouldnt think twice before declaring they dont deserve anything. Except if i work for anet.
There’s now a system where WvW commanders can nominate certain squad members to get a portion of the squads experience and items/gold – for example scouts who are providing an important service to the group but do it specifically by staying out of fights and so wouldn’t normally get anything for it.
Maybe there could be a similar system where squad members have the option to give the commander a bonus for doing a good job, maybe in the form of a buff that increases loot and XP.
Here’s how I imagine it could work:
When you’re in a squad you can right-click to ‘tip’ a commander, and then they get a buff which gives them 1% extra XP, Magic Find and Gold Find. It’s completely independent for each person – you can turn it on or off at any time regardless of what they other squad members are doing so you don’t all have to agree. If 1 person chooses to tip the commander gets a 1% buff, if 12 people tip they get a 12% buff and it goes up to a maximum of 50% for a full squad.
I think that should be relatively exploit-proof. You wouldn’t get anything just for tagging up, you’d have to get people to join your squad and choose to tip you. And because it only increases drops you’re already getting you have to be actively playing, you couldn’t just tag up while afk and get a bunch of friends to join your squad and tip you. (Maybe as an added precaution only squad members who are on the same map can tip a commander.)
Edit: Also as a precaution the commander would not be able to see who is tipping and who is not. They could see the number of people in the squad and the level of buff they’ve got but there would be no way to identify who it’s coming from, so they couldn’t kick people who choose not to tip.

In every world.
Wvw comms have to spend gold on sieges, constantly talk in VoIP.
Raid comm have to organise classes, watch out for every boss’ attacks, and constantly talk.
Pve comms explain how a meta works…
And no the reward doesn’t go to anyone who tags up, only those with numbers in their squad.
I like Danikats idea of squad member boosting a commander that they like.
I’m all for tossing our commanders a bone. Too many don’t want to tag up.
In regards to something like this and PvE:
The only way this would work would be requirements for the reward to be given.
For example: Squad has to have x number of members at time of meta completion.
Additionally, the reward would need to be something that does not give an advantage in combat to a given commander (otherwise it’s too close to pay-to-win).
Reward ideas:
- Additional 1% gold reward per squad member upon completion of an event (example: 25 squad members = +25% gold reward upon completion).
- Additional 33% movement speed* for entire squad for 2 minutes(?) (stackable), thus encouraging squads to stick together after an event, and the stackability encouraging people to run around doing events. Would also allow squad members to drop speed enhancing utilities for other utilities (not that squad class/utility composition is that important in PvE)
*with the maximum movement speed limit still in place
I like the additional gold percentage idea the best, because it would allow, for the most part, good commanders to recoup the investment into getting the tag.
WvW is another matter entirely and y’all can figure that out on your own…
In PvE this is a god awful idea. You will 100% guaranteed have people fighting over who gets to command and it’ll all go to kitten. I routinely tag for TD metas and occasionally other stuff. I even drop expensive food when I command. I do this because I want to organize people so the event succeeds. That’s your reward. If that’s not good enough then don’t tag up. Take it as an opportunity to teach people to do kitten properly, instead of a burden that you have to type instructions.
