Ok, so here I am, waiting for the ogre wars to start since I woke up. It gave me an idea.

Would it be possible/simple/interesting to offer a button on the interface that would allow players on a map to ask for it to be reset?

With the megaserver system, maps are opened up and closed down all the time, but players have no influence over that. With a button like that, Anet could start a new map instance when a given proportion of the map has asked for it (say, over 2/3) in order to unstuck stuck maps.

I see two problems with my own idea, of course. First would be the potential for farming – do the temples, ask for a mapchange, do the temples again – but this could be simply solved by setting the temples as free by default on a new map.

The second problem is that I can’t, from the top of my head, see another event chain as buggy as ogre wars, and therefore I’m not sure it would be worth the effort to implement it just for the one event chain.

Comments? discussions? suggestions? flame wars?

Forcing a map to reset would likely cause all events to reset including those that are on cool downs. Not a good idea.

Trolls.

People are too quick to want to get rid of a dialog during a fight and will click quickly to remove it. The problems come up when this is done during world bosses. Too many too quickly hit yes during say teq or triple trouble…

Interesting idea, but not only would it be impossible to get the various people on the map to agree but those who don’t want the reset or who weren’t paying attention to map chat (up to a third of the people on the map) will be annoyed and inconvenienced.

Interesting idea, but would definitely need a lot of tweaking and I’m not sure it’s viable in the long run.
I’m pretty sure the last thing people want to deal with is getting to the end of a big boss fight/event/whatever and then having a bunch of good-for-nothing trolls try and reset the map.

This can be abused so would be a bad idea.

I think a better idea is to have maps close and open a new instance every so often. The question is how often should it do this.

just fix ogre wars and any other events like it that have no true fail / reset condition.
