switch build on the run?

On some classes that I play (thief, ranger, elementalist etc.) I like to equip signets for increased movement speed while running and then change the utility skill to the originally intended one when engaging an enemy.

At the moment, when I see an enemy, I change the utility bar skill manually to another one before engaging. Apart from costing me a few seconds to do that, I also run the risk of finding myself locked in a fight with a signet skill i don’t really have a use of.

My question: Does anybody know of a way (mode maybe), which allows me to switch my skill bar, weapon set or my whole build on the run with just one key press?

That would be graaaaaand

At the moment I don’t believe there’s a way to automatically change multiple utilities with the click of a single button. Additionally, I completely support this idea and I know how annoying it is sometimes to be trapped in a fight before you had time to change all your skills.
They could allow us to move our skills around and put the three we like in a row, click a little icon (save) and have another icon that selects the entire row of ultilites. I’m referring to the arrow that activates the box to see the ultilites.
I must say I also wish we could build, save and edit multiple templates for our traits!!! With little tabs that we can rename “Dungeon”, “Teq”, "Exploration etc!
Small quality of life features like these would be awesome!

What I would like, is to be able to save your skill/talent template GW1 style. So when I want to be a supporty guardian open a tab, click your saved template, load it… AND BAM. How hard could this be to implement this feature.

I would love it! I hope they had plan for that after the feature pack.

This would be extremely OP for Thieves in WvW.

Attack enemy > Fight is not what the Thief expected it to be > Stealth > Swiftly get out of combat > Change gear, traits, utilites in a click > engage enemy again with a completely new build.

I think that is why A.Net hasn’t put it in the game yet. I think in WvW and PvP you cannot and should not be able to switch builds on the run.

So why not make it that you can’t load a template in those game mode? Still, if you are quick, you CAN currently change your skill / trait on the run in WvW… I don’t know about PvP as I don’t play it.

That logic make no sense. Template save/load IS A MUST for those who change frenquently builds in PvE (Dungeons, Fractals, farm,…).

If you want that, make it like GW1 where you can only load builds in town or safe areas.

I’d love to have a switch to go between traveling and actual combat. The whole reason I ended up with Discipline/Warhorn on my warrior is so I can march significantly faster across the map.

I’d be more than content with 3 slots, so I could have:
Traveling (for whatever speed traits/skills/utilities)
Standard combat (for melee and clusters)
Ranged combat (so I can quick-swap before a boss encounter)

But mostly a way to give some characters a travel config that I can stop using when I get to my destination.

I’d have to say no for using it for WvW though.

Many alts; handle it!

Just a thought for A.NET team… on the fly in WvW would be OP yes, so when adding this feature, do not allow someone to use this feature in a WvW map. Or at least only in their main Keep when not under attack.

Nope. This was another of the suggestions folder items that never got considered. Not only did people ask for an outfitter style system, but they asked for multi-spec and a button to switch between them on the minibars below (along with a button for minis, outfits, consumables etc etc etc the list was long and was long ignored sadly).

In the balance section there were some requests to get some more +movement rune options in order to distribute the cost a bit considering certain rune sets now cost a crazy amount of gold which harms players new ones mostly ( especially if they have + to run speed on them. )

Sad that I, someone who doesn’t work for Anet, can rattle off suggestions from the archive from memory, yet the team can’t seem to remember these things from year to year when planning feature patches?

I would LOVE build templates in GW2, similar to what we had in GW1. Ideally, it also remembers the gear you use for said build and auto-swaps it in when you load the template.

However, for balance reasons, I agree that the following limitations need to be put in:

1. In PvE, you can only load builds when you are currently out of combat.

2. In PvP, you cannot load builds while within a PvP match. (You may still, however, switch weapons and individual utility/elite skills while not in combat.)

3. In WvW, you can only load builds while within a friendly location (e.g. a Keep, a Tower or even a Camp) AND are currently out of combat. (As with PvP, you can still switch weapons and individual utility/elite skills while not in combat.)

Build templates are a popular suggestion that Anet is aware of. They even had it in GW1. I can’t say for sure, but I think they mentioned they will add it in a future feature pack.

Let us hope, they don’t introduce some kind of (time gated) gem item for this as they tried with the reskill, because I rather like the idea of switchingtrait specs per click.

I’d rather have a time restriction than zone restriction in WvW though eg 30s out of fight. When I’m running with my 5-10 guildmates and stumble across a group of 20, I’d like to be able to switch quickly.

Whatever we get will be better than now though.

We can dream, right?

I support this idea, and trait swapping as well, even if you can not do it in WvW once you leave your whole base. It would still be a nice to have, SOOO much effort to swap them for a dungeon vs living world vs WvW, at least PvP is separate.
