Water Weapons were such a waste for some good models. because you cant ever fight with them on land, which is where most of us play at, and you cant display them on land where most of us play at.

and I see some good models from that window as well.

SMH. the underwater only weapon concept should have been scrapped during alpha. was a bad idea, and I still dont like how it limits certain weapons from never reaching full potential.

This wouldn’t even be a problem if underwater combat wasn’t practically an alpha product.

Over-the-top mob concentrations
Often increased opposing cc – many mob types keep their standard cc while gaining sinks and floats.
Poor balance between the underwater weapons.
Half or more of every profession’s utilities and many elites arbitrarily disabled, ruining entire builds.
Clunky hit detection on melee weapons underwater.

And my personal favorite……
Enemies, pets, and NPC’s don’t believe in walls.

No. They’re not.

Underwater combat exists and so they have weapons and breathers for the occasion. Could the experience stand to be improved? Yes. Absolutely.

Underwater combat needs to seriously be looked at.

But as for it being a waste? No. I don’t agree with your reasoning. I’d rather we have it in some form than not have it at all.

Besides, with the next dragon being an underwater type, I’m sure that means underwater combat is going to be a focus soon enough.

What they need to do is make the water weapons available on land as well. Why would you not be able to use a spear or a harpoon on land?

My suggestion would be to make uw weapons available on land and aw weapons available underwater. Perhaps with a (small) attackspeedmalus in the wrong place because that’s the only way people will understand what their skills do on certain weapons. And make breathers skin only…

Personally, I love the underwater combat. Once you actually get good at it, it’s just not any harder than land-based fights.

I agree that making those weapons usable on the land would be an effective usage of resources. Hope ANet has it planned.

Spear I can see, but don’t be silly: a harpoon gun on land would just be a crossbOH.

Nevermind.

Spears/Harpoons – Melee / Throwing
Speargun / Harpoon gun – Strictly ranged
Tridents – Melee / possibly throwing

Realistically, spears can and have always been used either way; even all throughout history.. so to keep it strictly within the rules of this game (underwater) when other things in-game do parallel real life wouldn’t make any sense.

And as unconventional firearms, harpoon guns still work even on land.. so yea.

Then getting back to history, tridents have been used in gladiatorial fights. To say or keep it stictly as an underwater weapon would fall under the same argument as spears.
____

What should be done as earlier mentioned, allow each category of weapons to be used on land or underwater – while trying to stick to rules of physics as best as possible.

(Example 1: You can still fire guns underwater, even if its only 1 shot. But good luck trying to shoot a bow.)
(Example 2: You’ll draw and swing a dagger faster than if it were a sword or a greatsword. Same goes for maces and hammers)

As magic items go, such as scepters/staves.. its magic /nuff said. And ofcourse usage would entirely depend on the class using the weapon. Just where it’s being used should determine the possibility of using it, and any hinderance that may apply.

Since they removed underwater combat from sPvP, I am convince there will be no update for it at all, unless some random code issue get through that breaks it or Season 3 is all about Bubbles.

We aren’t going to see Bubbles soon unless we go to Cantha and even then I feel like it will be a on land battle. Also since South Korea and China still can’t get along we aren’t going to see Cantha soon. Hints why the Cantha district in DR got turned into a giant hole because they hated how Anet mix South Korean and Chinese styles together.

Also Underwater gameplay at this point has to be completely overhauled and since Anet has said underwater combat was “hard” for players to get a grasp on they aren’t going to go back to it anytime soon. Look how dumb down they made on land gameplay with the NPE. How would they make underwater combat that simple?

Kill stuff to unlock weapons skills, most confusing thing I ever heard of. (sarcasm)

The whole Bubbles thing was mostly sarcasm, I think they have given up on underwater combat in general and the only reason it hasn’t been completely removed is it would be too much work in the open world.

I get it, honestly I do…..forums are for QQ and trolling only, but at the risk of trying something new….

GW2 did an awesome job with the underwater combat!!!! Underwater combat is the same in every MMO that I have played. It is NOT meant to be the main arena for gameplay, it is just intended as a side element to add an extra dimension to the experience. Sure, they could have left underwater combat out of the game but how lame would it be if there was no water in the game at all or if you were not permitted to enter the water (of course, if there was no underwater combat, people would just be QQ’ing about that lol).

Those complaining about having to change utilities/skills, seriously? You don’t think that it makes sense to be required to change your fight tactics when you are in a completely different environment? :/

And while I agree that it is unfortunate that one can not show-off their cool underwater weapons on land, it is consistently logical to have two different sets of weapons for different environments.

Spears/Harpoons – Melee / Throwing
Speargun / Harpoon gun – Strictly ranged
Tridents – Melee / possibly throwing

Realistically, spears can and have always been used either way; even all throughout history.. so to keep it strictly within the rules of this game (underwater) when other things in-game do parallel real life wouldn’t make any sense.

Sure, I agree that it is possible to use an underwater weapon on land (and vice versa), but no one in their right mind would ever take an underwater weapon to a land battle. Weapons/tools are designed specifically to be most efficient for their respective environments. That is why you don’t see a regiment charging the enemy on land armed with harpoons :/

Sure, tridents were used by gladiators but that was more for the sake of novelty, to entertain the audiences, not because it was an effective land weapon. Even spears are typically designed differently for their respective environments. So I guess GW2 could change underwater weapons to be used on land, and just simply give them extremely bad stats when used for land combat in order to parallel real life logic. So what exactly is it that people want here? …… for GW2 to spend their time and financial resources on coding underwater weapons to be an ineffectual weapon on land, which no one in their right mind would ever use?

Two different sets of weapons, one for land combat and one for underwater combat…..this DOES parallel real life logic.

Spear was already a Land weapon(GW1)
and Trident seems like a Melee spear so no stretch there,
and harpoon is a cross bow like you implied which I agree with.

They have already begun phasing out Water weapons if you haven’t noticed.

The recent 2 sets of BLTC lack all water weapons for the skins. Not a coincidence.

I agree, i always thought it’s a waste of resources, art etc. with little effort they could just use normal weapons underwater and just change skillsets.

The Dragon’s Jade weapon set also lacks under water weapons, and that set was released last year. Makes me sad my set isn’t complete, even when it’s complete.
