the endgame answer ?
my suggestion for an endgame would be an event that takes place in a classroom. there, some risen teacher will explain how the age old mantra of “progression” is a failed one in the MMO market, yet despite this, the users insist on its inclusion into their game.
it would be a great event.
thats why this is the “end game answer” thread.
so far, player reknown, fame, influence over the game as a reward, couldnt be countered.
because once you have better gear, you want even better.
and this is not a strong endgame solution.
Its not just about better gear.
Its about difficult content, and applicable rewards for completing it. Dynamic events are fun, exploring is fun, crafting is fun, zone completion is fun, but none of that is hard. Its all easy.
Dungeons and endgame content should require heavy group coordination. It should take a while to get through all of it- at least for your average raid group. At least a few months. There really isn’t any challenging content like that in GW2.
arent dungeon too challenging?
according to the mass they are.
“not worth the reward”, because well, they die too much
and pvp… this is hard content !
The majority of people won’t PvP because it will show had bad they actually are.
Then maybe the solution is first identifying the problem properly…
1. What is the endgame in GW2?
2. How is it flawed?
If the “progression” mantra is a failed one, then what else keeps me playing? And don’t say fun, because I’ll counter with how do you make endgame fun and not fall into the “progression” mantra.
right now the endgame is what the devs posted on their main page;
map exploration
legendary items
dungeon
pvp
wvwvw
how is it flawed?
most people want a “reward”. and as it is it seems there isnt.
my solution provide a different type of reward than gear grinding, and put back the “multiplayer” in mmo, by making the world less feeling like a big npc.
according to me (geez… for what its worth…) the players should be able to reach a stage in which they become the strongest “npc”.
I’ve been playing MMOs for a long time. Over the years, there were some memorable moments of epicness that I will never forget.
Its those types of moments that I’m looking for in new games.
In DAoC, there were many epic events. From my first Relic raid, to my first Dragon raid. These were really hard encounters when the game was young, and took a ton of coordination and planning on a large scale. Even the dreaded Trials of Atlantis expansion contained tons of difficult content. Realm vs. Realm was amazing fun because pvp was hard. This has alot to do with tricky combat mechanics, and taking away the holy trinity, like it or not, has dumbed down combat quite a bit – as far as group-based fights go. One on one is a different matter.
In WoW, I’ll never forget when we killed the Lich King for the first time. I’d never seen a video on it, and I had no idea what was going to happen in the cut scene, so when we all fell on the ground and died at the end, I thought it was over. Then the cutscene started, my guild leader was hollaring in vent, and everyone was freaking out excited.
These are the types of moments I’m looking for. You don’t find them with easy content. You find them when you have to work really hard to achieve them, not by grinding, but by conquering difficult content, or in epic PvP that requires the coordination and strategy of many players, and truly means something to your character when you win. (even if its just a cool title)
GW2 really has nothing epic to offer at this current time.

It’s an AI script, get real, AI scripts are so easily beatable.
That is not end game, endgame is ongoing content.
Beat me down in tPvP with your skill, that is endgame, I get better and have more strategy for my team, I beat you down.
Endgame has to be player led.
Also, didn’t notice the edit but this
Guildwars = MMORPG
is completely false. You clearly know nothing about the genre you’re talking about if you think GW1 was an MMO.
How was GW not an MMO?

How was GW not an MMO?
Guild Wars was not an MMO because it did not have a persistent world where you could interact with massive amounts of players. It had instanced zones with big chat rooms in between (cities).
I think I get the gist of what you’re getting at, but I don’t think I really understand. So your actions enrich the world/guild/other-things-besides-your-toon? If that’s what you’re getting at, I guess I don’t see the reward in that because enriching theses things lead to what?
If it’s the guild/world, you’re probably up’ing bonuses or unlocking something which is almost the same thing as gearing, but you’re just getting a passive bump rather than some icon with numbers being put in a slot.
bruno, it can be something different than a “buff”.
but it need to be player led.
maybe tyria needs a king?
and maybe that king can be voted for by the players?
and then choose royal knights, with crest beside your name? etc.
create an identity for the server on wvwvw events!
the idea is to promote social interaction as an endgame by rewarding the players that spend a LOT of time in the game.
How was GW not an MMO?
Because the only “massively multiplayer” aspects of it were essentially player-lobbies, and in those instances very few, if any, RPG elements took place.
Come on, man, even ANet admits that GW1 wasn’t an MMO. It was a multiplayer RPG with graphical lobbies to gather parties for instances.

Conflict.
I know it may seem drastic but to have a player driven endgame you need constant conflict between groups.
Now to me, the name Guild Wars conjures up conflict between Guilds, to provide an endgame based on that is the difficult part when Guilds are based on different servers, maybe introduce that conflict through WvW.
Sorry to you guys that want to shoot magic dragons, they are easy and always will be, if that sort of stuff interests you, may I suggest a game that would interest you.
If that does interest you, can I have your stuff?
^
thats it
(and i need to push it to 15 letters)
So you’re idea is that the events are player driven to enrich the world’s history and, in a way, have you’re own unique history per server…. maybe even have certain consequences to those actions?
That could be interesting.
player lobbies could be an idea… and maybe you have to “gain” your way into those lobbies..
and there could be a Whisper, Vigil and Priory lobby.
So, in essence, the “endgame” is the evolution of the world, post-Zhaitan, and dictated by it’s inhabitants?
give an identity to the server.
with its king, knights, sages….
create conflicts to rise among the top.
then be able to “choose” or “vote” some of the server qualities in wvwvw.
the idea is that the player can become “real”.
i mean… thats only for hardcore players.
regular players will just do the regular pve content and basic pvp anyway.
imagine if the “internet” or blog start to talk about those “big
guildwars players” eventually…
So, in essence, the “endgame” is the evolution of the world, post-Zhaitan, and dictated by it’s inhabitants?
no, new pve content can be added by anet as they intend to.
that “player influence part” would just be a side thing. something to do for top players" and something to give a bit of life into the game.
so that it doesnt look like a huge “npc”.
i strongly believe that the Players need to be stimulated in other ways as just “gear and stats”.

They could do this very easily just by adding Titles for completing certain content and for winning in sPvP & WvW.

that could be a tiny first step

Yes.
It is actually more than that but in essence you are correct.
The bad thing is that you have server changes, a way to counteract that maybe to control resource drops to how well the server interacts with it’s residents.
(edited by snadge.2483)
i see server changes as allright.
a good server will attract more followers.
dying server can be cut, forced to migrate, king death
and new servers can be created! depending on how the game
can/wish to attract more gamers.
Where tossing around ideas heres mine.
My wish for endgame would be a pvp zone where people of said world can go to use there shiny level 80 gear on one another, with the excitement and danger that random pvp encounters can bring. Bring some pvp to the this open world.
This dont have to be THE endgame just say a piece of the pie.
agreed on the pvp part within the pve.
dueling is a MUST.
and dueling people/champs of other server for fame and glory.
structured pvp is good for esporters.
regular “unfair” pvp is good for roleplayers.

A dueling arena should do the trick.. so people wont be spamming /duel everywhere, ruining the game for others.
Haha. Unfair pvp for the emo crowd? “He hurt me! Waaaaa.”
i wish the Cultural armor was good as far as stats. As a human Ele, the choices i have available only point me to Tier 3(cause it looks the best, despite lowered stats than what i got. Would be nice to have that buffed.

thats your endgame answer…
o m g
i am simple-minded right now, since i have only been level 80 for 4 days. I do not pvp, so yes, i would be missing out on all that jazz, but yes, that’s my endgame answer (for me).
besides, all the other problems in the game are already being voiced – i just want my armor!
^
take note.
classic mmo player.
im getting too old for that ..
I’d be happy with random dynamic events. Like the Shadow Behemoth in Queensdale. Spawns quite rarely, drops a chest with random good/decent gear and some money. That’s all that is needed really. A few level 80 areas with big bosses that spawn from time to time, challenging bosses that really take some effort to kill.
Hmm what could they do with endgame?
Add some more level 80 zones
Add something like Sorrows Furnace, Underworld, Fissure of Woe etc
Add in light, medium and heavy armor Legendary PvE sets (just for looks, not with increased stats)
Give the PvP’ers the dueling and Arenas they’ve been asking for
I wouldn’t mind some sort of sandbox content thrown in… maybe more WvW maps.
