I recently read this article:

http://www.tentonhammer.com/opinions/developers-should-steal-more

And have to agree with them wholeheartedly. Even though we now have more interaction with the community (testing programs and CDI). It seems that some of the core wants and needs of the community are thrown wayward simply because they want to be different.

Simple aspects that could be added to the game, simply aren’t because they already exist somewhere else, they want something new and different, and are willing to sacrifice the playerbase (or at least their sanity) to achieve that.

All in all…why don’t we have GvG?

To be honest, Anet made more effort to incorporate GvGs in the last 6 months than i expected, they decreased the bloodlust boni and got us the arena in OS. Even though that arena gets trolled (during some matchups) it is a good addition.

Except that the arena matches can be grieved, and it depends on what the server match ups are.

GvG aside. Im one of those people that say; Who cares if somebody did it before? Im sure somebody else did it before that in a slightly different way. Nothing, absolutely nothing is new, everything has already been invented, all you currently have are spin offs and alterations.

Sure there are “innovative” things, but if something has worked in the past, whether it was your own previous game or some other relic of the past, then try to find the core thing that made it enjoyable and add it to your own game. Like the article said, we dont want to have a reinvented wheel, we just want one that works.

ANET, Im looking at you and your awful decision of making away with healers!!!!!!!!!!!

Bloodlust wasn’t reduced due to GvG it was reduced because it gave too much of an advantage to the top server.

I fully agree, arenanet does not care about their fanbase. The GW1 community made them big, GW2 is just a “kitten#8221; in the face for them. From elitism speed clears to simple lore, everything is gone. & lets not forget the deckbuilding & attribute points, RIP However, arenanet has great potential with it’s game to fix alot of this stuff. The deckbuilding, teamwork based fights & lore could easly be fixed if they decide to do it NOW! (if they had it from the beginning, they would have 100 times more active players for sure = more profit = more fun = more happy = winwin)

oh & btw, why it would be cool if more developers could join the forums & give their acutal opinion instead of explaining what is comming in the future for gw2.

The only reason they created the OS arena was because of that massive debacle of the Anet dev griefing a GvG.

They decreased the bloodlust bonus because it was too OP for the server with the better coverage.

Even just a few things, like I said, they can be innovative all they like, but don’t throw away a good thing….for a reason they won’t even technically give us o.O

Innovation isn’t always, to me, coming up with something entirely new. Sometimes, it’s looking back over things that we already have and finding ways to improve upon them to the point where something becomes new.

I used to work for a very successful entrepreneur, and he used to have several meetings with young, up-and-coming folks who would come to ask about setting up their own businesses. They always say “I just haven’t had a great idea about something new yet”. And he’d always reply “most businesses don’t start with something entirely new. Yes, it happens, but it’s the very rare case. If you have it great, but if you don’t, don’t force something different just to do something different. Instead, look at current systems – heck, look at toilet cleaning, and work out how it can be done better.”

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. Instead of always rejecting things people want just because “it’s been done before”, companies should look at how these things were done, why they were successful and how to make them even better. Then, they can try new stuff. But if the core of their game isn’t solid to begin with, they’ll face more trouble than ease later.
