imo what makes gw2 feel so small and restricted are the instanced areas. those mountains u see in the distance, that go above the clouds, are not climbable bc their basically walls that stop u from getting in other areas. it would be nice if they opened up the map so u can climb those huge mountains in the distance, which would make the game feel more epic imo ofcourse. i know anet has their reasons for having each area instanced and i know this will never happen but it would, pve wise, make tyria feel more opened and epic!

Ummm they really are not instanced as such. They are if anything just small open world maps.

Another thing is you really wouldn’t be able to climb those mountains too high or go too far anyway because there are invisible walls at the edge of the maps and there is a “ceiling” height wise. When I explore the maps I always find spots where you just physically can’t walk anymore due to hitting an invisible wall and you can’t go any higher because you can tell the game just wont let you. A good way to know if you can’t go beyond a certain point or height is to play on an Engi and try using their rifle skill 5. Aiming it on any area where we can’t physically go due to being too high or off the map will not highlight up.

It’s just the way they made the game and we are stuck with it now. To get what you are asking for would require a whole world map overhaul which I doubt they will do. This is also a reason why we wont get flying mounts either because the height of the world really is just not so high, well not compared to other games like Perfectworld for example anyways. There you can go far far far above the clouds and even large cities on the map soon look like ants in the distance.

Lastly I too would like something that you are asking for but right now it’s just not really possible. I guess they could start to make much larger maps. Would be nice if they were not so cluttered with stuff all over the place too and have a lot more open areas or forests etc.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

i didnt know what to call them so i just refereed to them as instances.

i wouldnt say there is a ceiling bc u can climb higher on the volcano in mount maelstrom then u can climb those “mountains”. they just have these barriers in place so we cant pass and glitch through to other or unopened areas. i think. haha

yea, i know they will never do this but i just wanted to see other ppls opinions on this topic. it would be awesome if we could get that high, like in perfect world, where u look down and everyone/thing look like ants.

the idea of a really large map would be awesome. but i can see them making a area like that but as boring as southsun cove. guess we’ll have to wait and see. thanks for the reply though i really appreciate it

I understand what you’re saying, OP, and I agree. It would be great to be able to climb mountain passes to pass between regions as opposed to going through the swirly portal in one of the handful of places where the perimeter wall, however cleverly disguised, drops.

Soft borders.

I’m sure I have actually hit the invisible ceiling before while being in some very high spots. Usually in hidden places where jumping puzzles are located at. My char even couldn’t jump I think because his head hit the ceiling, I’m sure of it lol.

I do know about the volcano and how it seems a lot higher than most of the other places. Perhaps they could just make a whole mountainous region. I know the map where the Priory is located sort of fills this request but I don’t know. Back to that volcano, anyone else feel like you are Frodo just about to throw the ring into the mountain just as you reach the top lol? O.O

Anywho gl with this post.

I completely agree, and it’s one of the main negatives of GW2 for me.

The reason they did it like this is undoubtedly due to technical limitation of the engine, and it’s a good solution, but I do miss the feeling of truly exploring an open world.

Send an Asura who knows math. Problem solved.
