i was doing the JP in Ashford plains the other day (the one near the Bandits camp). i came almost to the end, when the npc that spawns there knocked me over the edge and i died.
so besides being frustrating, i was thinking why isn’t it possible to knock mobs over? every time i try this, they seem to hit an invisible barrier that prevents them from falling. how ’bout some equality, A.net??? gravity should affect mobs too.

Because the game has a bad AI that cannot compensate for it. That’s why all the other mob hacks such as Unshakeable, leash regen, etc. exist as well.

It would trivialize a lot of content if you could just knock them off a ledge. I think that’s the problem. Oh, look a champion, he looks tough, let me just use one skill to knock him off and kill him.

Anet figures after the first time you are knocked off, perhaps you will be more careful the next time around. Maybe throw on stability while doing melee damage, maybe range from a distance, I dunno I’m just spitballin’ here.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

Leash regen is in place so people can’t glitch/exploit the mobs for free kills. Lots of games have leashing and regen typically follows with it.

I’ve never heard anyone refer to them as ‘mob hacks’, though. Underlying hatred for the mechanics, I detect.

Maybe he’s suggesting that the mobs have become sentient and are hacking the game they were created in?

This game is too immersive!!

Leash regen, eh? So that’s what it’s called. I’ve come closer to rage quitting over some massive bag of hit points running away and regaining full health only to come right back to clobber my almost dead (even though they were winning the fight) characters again than anything else in this game.

Anet gave us high mobility combat, but if we use it? Pfft.

My ele was attempting the skill challenge on that ship in Cursed Shore the other day. Had the thing she was fighting almost whupped, when suddenly, one dodge too many – and she went flying out of the side of the ship. Splat. Dead. Ha ha. Very funny, anet. 10/10.

As for knocking things off cliffs and other high places… sigh.

He’s right though. Those mechanics, especially one such as unshakeable, are very poorly thought out and a band-aid approach of what could otherwise be ‘fun-to-fight’ boss encounters.

I wish I could find the thread where a dev was stating his distaste for certain mechanics and would like it changed it to something that would keep players more alert throughout fights.

They couldn’t be exploited if they had a proper AI. Almost all games that implement these preventions have a bad AI that is very similar to the one in GW2.

For example, if you cannot reach a mob, but can atttack it (e.g up a cliff), then the proper solution is to have the mob use a ranged attack, not be invulnerable, unless the invulnerability also came with some kind of visual status (i.e a shield).

This way of doing things only removes viable tactics from the players, and on top of that also makes the mobs appear dumb and unimaginative.

Then people wonder why all you can do is press 1111 half the time…

Its the simple truth that in the current implementation, mobs are hackers. Just because they are game objects and not people does not change that. They resist CC without the use of any skills, become invulnerable, port around, leash and reset, are immune to being knocked off of cliffs (a particular hazard to players), etc.

Its just a horrible departure from immersion when the player character exists in a world of what are obviously scripted objects and not “real” creatures or people. How are you supposed to take it all seriously when the same mechanics don’t even apply, and when the same tactics that are viable against sentient beings behind player characters are not viable against what are supposed to be sentient beings (in lore) behind NPCs?

And how many things in the game have been dumbed down to the point of appearing almost broken just to keep a small minority from exploting it?

There is always a better way to do something.

Isn’t it because characters are able to move along the X, Y and Z axis, and mobs only along the X and Y?

Yes long wanted feature. Nobody is telling the KI to come back the hills or stairs. Just kick them off and they die like a player would also. Thats would be fine enough.

champions/bosses could have stability, most of them do. Anyway, he spawned and knocked me over very quickly, I barely had time to react

It just annoys me if I’m fighting a mob, bring it almost down and then it starts running away and quickly regenerating. I mean, I then obviously run after it and attack it like crazy, thinking that it will be in leash-range again (since it was a couple seconds before) and stop regenerating HP. Nope. It usually keeps running and regenerates and is invulnerable until it’s at full health again.

I’ve also had it happen that a mob right next to me will become invulnerable for no reason. Those are usually flying mobs, though. And yes, they could definitely attack me; usually even without needing to move.

As for the throwing mobs off cliffs part… I too wished many times it was possible. I think to know why you can’t do that, though… simply because mobs are not smart enough to know that it’s a bad idea to stand next to a cliff if their opponent has skills that can push or pull them.

I asked “them” this very same question not long after launch and it went TOTALLY IGNORED by “them”, good luck on getting “them” to answer you.
