Please get rid of trainers, they serve no purpose in the game other than an annoying zone change. 3 silver max to retrain skills is a small fee, not sure why we even have it. I know this game needs money sinks, but the money sinks are the gear we buy, not the skills we retrain. Its archaic and unnecessary, its bad enough I have to filly my bags with different types of gear, but having to zone just to retrain the skills seems redundant. Get rid of the trainer and make it like how pvp traits can be retrained, thanks.

I must admit, I don’t see the point in the trait books, those trait sections could just unlock at particular levels

Make them class VENDORS, and allow the player to retrain their own traits. Half the time I go to retrain I hit the books instead by accident, its annoying.

I think its more so you can’t change your trait points on the fly.

BUT…. GOLD SINKS?!?!?!?!?!?

Lets see, all three books combined come to 3 gold 10 silver. A single piece of valued exotic gear costs 3 to 4 gold, you have to buy 12 pieces of gear/trinkets, and 4 to 6 different weapons, which is the real gold sink?

There are plenty of money sinks, having to go to a retainer is just annoying. I dont mind having to go get books, but retraining should be a class feature.

And why is that a bad thing? You still have to adjust your gear, traits are not that crucial that allowing an on the fly change wouldnt be game breaking. If someone can really point out a viable reason that we are still tied to trainers to retrain in pve, please let me know it. I just view it as a tiresome archaic nuisance.

It would be a better gold sink if you could retrait at will but the game charged you a small fee to do so. The would not only be a more flexible system but it would be a better gold sink as people would retrait more frequently if they didn’t have to leave where they were to do so.

That wouldn’t really mater in open world PVE. You could just disable it in Dungeons and WvW.

The trading post fee is a gold sink, as the gold goes back to the system; most of the gold you spend on exotics on the other hand goes to other players. 3.2 g for trait books may not be much, but every little bit counts.

Like GW1 you mean? Yup, that would be better

Thank you. A little more clearly (since what you’re saying here seems misunderstood from the OP’s first post):

When you buy new gear on the TP, only 15% of that is actually a gold sink. The rest just gets passed to another player. A gold sink is removing gold from the game. Not just transferring it to someone else.

We actually need more gold sinks currently. Not fewer.

Would’ve been no problem at all, from a programming perspective, to allow trait changes while in “safe” areas out in the field (say, within X distance of an uncontested/currently eventless waypoint, or area with service/vendor NPCs, while out of combat) or in cities. But then we wouldn’t have a gold sink to go along with the travel, resurrection, and repair sinks…

(sometimes I think that the entire gold sink system was added because the devs hated the original Guild Wars, which had free respecs, free travel, free resurrection, and no equipment degradation, things which were regularly praised by players)

What I would like to see is remove having to go to the trainers to reset traits, give us an option to save trait templates and let us change our traits either when we’re not in battle or when we are in a outpost, kind of like GW with our builds.

I don’t mind still having to pay, they can still charge us to change our templates.

I have to disagree with the OP. Keep in mind that this is my opinion only, and I do not speak for anyone else.

Having a class trainer provides a couple of things, neither of which the OP may care about. I happen to be one who does.

1. Gold sink – As the above posters have said, every little bit helps. I rarely buy anything from NPC vendors, and I rarely spend my money on mats that can only be bought from NPCs. I do change my traits often, and paying the 3s to do so isn’t game breaking for me.

2. Changing traits on the fly isn’t viable until we get the ability to have more than one set of specs, a la GW1. The reason I say that is for me, changing my traits takes a bit of time. Having to go to the trainer to do so gives me a safe place to stop for a while and think before I trait. Changing them out in the world and in a hurry would make me crazy.

IF the devs ever give us the option of having more than one gear slot to be able to switch armor and traits on the fly, then I could see doing away with the trainers and maybe just charging us a small fee upon gear switch. Until then, tho, I’ll go to the trainer.

For the moment the Devs want it like this becuase they want us to have a sense of permanence it’s all in Dev interviews/blog post, plus it’s a gold sink.
