Let me get this straight – if you purchase an armor skin for 800 gems, apply it… and then decide you’re bored of it a few months later, you have to pay 300 gems per item to take the skin back off or lose it permanently?

Wouldn’t even call splitters a viable method for that. The ~20g a splitter would cost per piece might as well be used to buy a new set entirely, even if you use divinity/traveler runes.

Unless you use celestial armor, then you’re (even more) screwed.

Real purpose: Transmute Legendary onto white weapon to make it account bound. Transfer to new character, use splitter to get back Legendary, now soulbound to new character. It’s a lot cheaper than building a new Legendary when you get tired of playing the same character all the time.

Also, it was originally developed around the time when Legendaries were upgraded and people were wondering what would happen to existing Legendaries that were transmuted to a different set of exotic stats. Not sure if the transmuted Legendaries upgraded, but if they didn’t you would be able to split them and get back the original (and therefore upgradable) stats.
