unnoticed change.
But they still released RNG dyes.
RIP City of Heroes
I’ll be surprised if they never release RNG boxes again, but really I think the problem with them is that people actually buy them and not that they exist.
There hasn’t been any real change at all. Individual LS chapters no longer have their own RNG boxes (e.g. Dragon Bash’s coffers) — but only because that role has been given to Black Lion Chests.
In fact, it’s worse than before. Previously, you had a chance at the LS gear through play (coffers dropped in the open world during Dragon Bash) while now, you must buy keys.
The biggest compliment you can give a gardener is to never talk to them. People only ever notice negatives, then complain. It is very rare to notice a positive then go out of your way to compliment them on it.
Like restaurant reviews online. how many times have you been to a restaurant, loved everything about it, then went online to tell others how great an experience it was? If the waiter dumped soup on you and there was a kittenroach in your salad, you’re sure to warn everyone about it.

I just noticed A-net isn’t releasing the RNG Boxes anymore, but more armor/Weapon skins, like the community asked. While I personaly found nothing wrong with those boxes, It’s a shame nobody notices these things and only notices the mistakes.
I wouldn’t celebrate just yet. The sale for BL Keys just ended. I expect some goodies to be added to the chests soon.
As has been pointed out, these new skins would have been a reward for doing the living story six months ago. Also, the Dreamthistle stuff was just released a week ago, and now this week we get RNG dyes.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
One small change I noticed a while back is they replaced the ear piercing sound of Mesmer greatsword with a more subtle one. I had mentioned a few times on the forums that the sound bothered me and now it’s gone. I can play GS on my Mesmer again.
Well, much thanks to ANet for this. Now i see why I’m less apprehensive about the newer LS contents

Actually, I hated that change. XD (Although I wield a Scepter, not a Greatsword.) Before, the sound was a sharp, sparkly tone that suited the glamour of Mesmer combat, IMO. Now it’s just a dull “thud, thud, thud” sound. It doesn’t have the same kind of impact.
Then again, because I only hear the sound on Confusing Images, perhaps it doesn’t get as grating as it would for a Greatsword user who hears it constantly when spamming 1.
I still get RNG boxes in the form of BLC’s albeit not near as often but they are still very much in the game.

I was glad to see ANet putting things other than RNG into the store. In fact, since I just ignore RNG gem items, I think the store is actually pretty well done.
It seems to vary with each update (presumably because different teams make them).
Dragon Bash and the Bazaar had a good compromise IMO with RNG boxes that were sold in the gem store but also dropped in-game and (in the Bazaar update) added the concept of ticket scraps which meant even if you didn’t get a lucky drop there was a cap on how many times you needed to try before you were guaranteed your prize. (And I actually did make a topic at the time praising them for that.)
Then Cutthroat Politics basically went back to the old system. A new set of weapon skins was added (Aetherized weapons) and to get them you had to open Black Lion Chests (RNG boxes) to get either a Black Lion Claim Ticket or Ticket Scraps (which unlike the kite ticket scraps aren’t a guaranteed drop). The only difference is they didn’t have a unique RNG box to push.
Queen’s Jubilee got it right with weapon skins purchased with in-game reward tokens.
Then Clockwork Chaos fell back on the RNG box system with Zodiac Weapons acquired using Black Lion Tickets.
Super Adventure Box, Tequatl Rising and Twilight Assault also got it right – those weapon skins were all obtained in-game by playing the new content.
But then Blood and Madness and Tower of Nightmares went back to putting them in the Black Lion Chests (RNG boxes).
I agree that they’ve made improvements – the fact that ‘new update’ doesn’t automatically mean ‘new RNG box’ is great. And it’s good that there’s just the one ticket system now and the skins continue to be available after the end of that LS chapter so you could possibly get them later.
But IMO the ideal system would be a game with no real-money RNG at all and unfortunately that’s not going to happen until everyone stops buying them.
