vendor consumables as collectibles
I like it. My concern though is ArenaNet’s track record of expanding upon existing systems. For example, we were supposed to get monthly additions to the PvP reward tracks and it didn’t happen. Mini dungeons stopped being implemented and we have gotten few new jumping puzzles. It’s too bad the maps added after the game came out(Dry Top and Southsun Cove) have no rewards for clearing them even though they don’t add to map completion. A reward and a reason to complete exploration on them for all of my characters would have been a nice touch though. They haven’t added any new dye that isn’t Black Lion Chest RNG in two years which is such a shame. The ability to craft new dyes would be huge. They did expand upon the wardrobe system though so that is good and the BLTC got some love. The majority of the time though, they like to add a new feature and then just leave it as is.
well, collections are expanding on the karma rewards system…

How so?

A lot of collectibles are items you can buy from Heart-vendors for some karma, so in a way it’s progress through karma-rewards.
At the same time, a lot of collectibles are incredibly rare drops you can only get from dungeons. Does that also mean the Collections is an expansion of the dungeon system?

well karma rewards are guaranteed reliable rewards, you work on it and you get the result. I wouldn’t call extremely rare drops something I work towards to… more of being lucky while I do the dungeon for other reasons.
Well, then what about crafting? There are a lot of sets that rely on crafting (exos and ascendeds). Does that make this an extension of the crafting system? Or Black Lion Ticket weapons? Those you can buy from the TP. Does that make this an extension of the TP?
You’re thinking about it completely wrong. Just because the completion achievements rely on things you can get from other portions of the game, that doesn’t make them an extension of that part of the game. They’re merely a related system.

The important thing is: with these new collectibles from karma-vendors and other sources all over the world I actually enjoy exploring the world much more than before. Why not use this fact to get people into the world looking for those environmental weapons (some of them hidden quite well) and feel rewarded for completing events.
