want to change controls...
I spin my camera in the direction I know I’m going to go if I know there’s a cliff or other hazard behind the enemy. Otherwise I dodge through the enemy then immediately spin it around.
It’s not that complicated, really.
All you need to do is hold the right-mouse down as you move to lock the camera. Then double tap whichever direction you need to dodge. The short cut way is to move in the direction you want to dodge, then just press V.

id vastly prefer dodging in the direction i push on screen rather then the direciton i push combined with the orientation of my character.

Not sure I understand what you mean. Are they the same thing? If you double tap Right, then you dodge right of your character.
Yes Penguin, but if you have that option disabled (I use arrow keys to run, for instance) and you have dodge hotkeyed, the often you will dodge away from your enemy no matter your orientation to them. Still yet, if you have melee assist enabled, and are within range, you’ll often dodge toward the enemy. I have my entire board mapped custom and have got used to how this works, but I could understand others’ frustrations.
What A net could do about it is slim to nothing though I’m pretty sure.
Just need more practice OP. Also try rebinding keys to be more efficient and change options you do or don’t want/need.
I can’t remember the last time I dodged off a cliff. Last time I threw myself off a “cliff” with a skill was in SE using Burning Speed. It occurs so rarely I don’t see it as an issue.
‘dodging off a cliff’ wasn’t mentioned by the OP and has nothing to do with his problem. Anecdotes are useless to problem solving anyway.
i have in fact dodged off a cliff, i dodged right…but because the orientation my character was facing he dodged right and angled upward…resulting in my death.
its these type of things that keeps this game (among other things) form realizing potential, need precise controls, not sloppy ones.
