I love the Skaven, they are a brilliant race but apart from the fact that they are both humanoid rats, Skritt are nothing like them. A race being a humanoid animal isn’t that rare or unique.

As for Skritt I thought they inspired by Rat Kings in the mythology around those they are typically far more intelligent than regular rats.

I definitely see some similarities in the development of Asura and Skritt.
*The use of advanced technology
*the will to torture and maul for advancement even among rather moderate specimen.

Then make some slight changes:
*Replace RatOgres with Golems and take warpstone away. There is kind of a warpstone event though(near fireelemental).
*Split race into neutral evil(Asura/Inquest) and chaotic neutral(Skritt)
*Remove the desire to run in a group for Asura

I can perfectly see a deranged Asura use poison gas throwers in a WWI style.

Asura are the evolved forms of Skritt, nothing more nothing less.

IMO the reference to the mythic rat king is the more clear reference for Skritt design.

Skaven are too evil, warlike and technomagic-able. Also their aesthetics are closer to dredge than Skritt.

Skritt alien way of thinking, their love for shinies, the somewhat good-natured innocence they usually manifest, short attention spans and lack of long-term memory, and their general tendency to adopt whatever they see as own, even when they don’t understand it, sounds to me like some of the developers liked L5R’s Nezumi. (Skritt even seems to be uncorruptable by evil magicks, like Nezumi were shielded from Fu-Leng’s influence!)

PS: Also their names are more similar to official Nezumi than official Skaven.
