I believe they also drop in the No-So-Secret jumping puzzle from aetherblade foes and the chests.

The ‘best’ way for many of us to farm almost anything:

• Do whatever content you like.
• Sell or salvage→sell the loot you don’t need.
• Use accumulated coin to buy what you need off the TP.

That ensures you spend more time having fun (which ‘coincidentally’ reduces your chance of burning out). Often, it’s even quicker than traditional farming (although of course, it’s slower sometimes, too.)

You can substantially speed up this type of farming by using custom buy & sell offers.

I think it’s the blade shards that can drop from Aetherblades. Although, I think that Aetherblades do have a chance of dropping a salvage item that has sprockets on the loot table, now that I think about it.

And Nightmare Fractal drops a few sprockets.

What are these suddenly needed/used for anyway, just the ‘new’ condi meta? I noticed their price about doubled a few weeks ago, but wasn’t sure why.

Cause peoples now use the unbound gaterer instead of the watchwork one.

You get the sprockets and blade shards from the home instance node. I get so many from that that I don’t worry about the mining thing. I keep selling them when I get over 1,500.
