weapon skins
It’s not just you. While the world itself is rather pretty, the armour is generally considered boring, the legendaries – irritatingly unique beyond reasonable, and some armours, including gemstore ones – even ugly. The non-dyeable weapons also make it worse as it usually leaves just 1-2 colour options outside the “gray-brown” colour scheme, and those 1-2 weapons may not match your style anyway.
So again, GW2 may be (or is) superiour in terms of user-friendly mechanics and non-P2W model, but it’s character visuals are often called subpar compared to Asian visual-heavy MMOs. Still, it’s an American MMO, and it finds enough fans which prefer its “brutal” style to “elegant” ones.
As for me, I’m not working towards legendaries for a simple reason – I don’t like any and they don’t fit my characters.
I started off with the tallest characters possible so the weapons scale up in size. After a while, in the end game, I aim for the less heavy duty weapon skins. Great swords like Cobalt, Ebonblade, Ceremonial GS, Ascalon, Seraph fit my perception of a great sword better than the flashy ones like the ascended GS’s. The Jade dragon GS is actually somewhat similar to Asian greatswords (makes sense) but I’d really only use that if Canthan looking characters appeared. I definitely don’t like eternity, twilight and sunrise.
Most of the swords are ok. I crafted Bolt because I really like the electricity effect although the actual sword skin itself is a little odd.
Mostly I find them excellent and a huge range to choose from. One of my biggest bug bears with GW1 was how poor the choice of armour and weapons were, this seems to have been addressed here.
Having said that, there is room for improvement. Staff skins particularly need some love, when you you compare to shield, where the attention to detail on shields has been phenomenal.
There are a lot a dislike but also a lot i really like, and since different people have a different kind of taste, i think thats fine
The only thing where i think we have not enough variety is medium armor, really too much of this trenchcoat stuff.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
A find a lot of armor and weapon skins downright terrible. Especially some of the armors in the gem store of all places. Where people need to spend money to get them.
Not saying there aren’t good skins as well, but boy some are just plain bad.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
