where do you go now that LA is ruined?
I have been using Rata Sum since April 2013.
Well I found LA more pleasant place to hang around in now, however I have noticed an increase of people standing around in Ebonhawke. Possibly the people not liking LA moved to there.
Otherwise the bank area in Divinitys Reach has always been very popular. It has the TP/bank/guild bank in one place.
Black Citadel.
Can’t please everyone I guess…

Hmmm Black Citadel is good.
Id do anything for a Captain’s Airship Pass purchase opportunity now…
And thanks for the Ebon Hawke tip. It’s not bad; it is suitably enshrouded in shadow, just needs a view
I don’t MF very often, but when I do, I use the airship. /meme
And I don’t have anything against the new LA, but I barely ever used it as a home base. Rata Sum has always been more convenient, sans MF.
Royal Terrace pass. Well worth the price for one stop shopping.
ANet may give it to you.
Airship and Rata Sum for me~

I’ve been using the Black citadel ever since they destroyed LA, i like how all the crafting stations and guildbank + bltp are close together, The new LA looks amazing but it’s not really convenient as you have to run around from one edge of the map to another :x
Assuming they ever decide to sell it again, does Airship Pass work across all character slots?
I flick across 16 slots all day, so a thing in the backpack doesn’t work really

Alas.
Thanks, mate!!
The contrast between the creative genius of Black Citadel and the broad bland brush strokes of the new LA is remarkable.
You can’t beat talent and passion.

What I wish they had done was have a waypoint inside that you had to pay to unlock. The unlock would be a account wide and you didn’t have to carry a pass around with you. Oh, well. Another missed opportunity. However it’s still a great place to go to get every service in one spot.
ANet may give it to you.
You are crazy. The new LA is a massive improvement over the homeless hovel that it was.
LA was horrible in it’s previous two incarnations because of packing loads of players into a small area with difficulty moving between areas without getting caught up on something.
That’s why I’ve parked myself in the past at The Grove and now DR because of my permanent Royal Terrace pass.
RIP City of Heroes
I have always preferred Rata Sum for my banking and crafting needs. Even better if I’m on a mesmer, I can portal back from the wp to my crafting station.
I hang in rata sum most time since bank and vendor is a few feet from each other; the black lion trader is also a very short distance away. If I want to craft…well, not found a good convenient spot yet like old LA so I dunno about that yet. I also head to DR as well if that is a closer way point since that too has convenient locations for most essential NPCs.
LA looks like disney land to me, all they need is to add mickey mouse/goofy/etc NPCs and it will look just like it. Also, all the essential npcs are spread out miles apart; it feels like a marathon to get anything done. Do not like. LA to me was always charming since it was a gritty port city and now it’s like going to a theme park; feels out of place with every thing else in the game but that’s just my opinion.
Here’s hoping it gets leveled again soon.

DR or Rata Sum, the new LA is pretty but pretty much useless for function.
I understand that LA can’t be too convenient, but my god… this layout is just horrible. Can’t wait for Mordy to crash land on it. Royal Terrace/Airship and Rata Sum ftw.

Hoelbrak. Hoelbrak is the home base for nearly all of my characters and always has been.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
You are crazy. The new LA is a massive improvement over the homeless hovel that it was.
No way. It’s boring, bland and has no character. It doesn’t even feel like a city. Feels like a themepark. The ship theme it had before was more unique and interesting.
Black Citadel for me now probably. Though the Grove is very pretty.
Sorry, but the new LA is more convenient than it has ever been. Rata Sum has always been the most convenient with the bank, guild bank, and BLTC within a leap finisher of each other and surrounded by all the crafting, but LA is now extremely handy. BLTC and bank are not farther apart than they ever were, and are possibly closer now, and the crafting is all clustered in the same place rather than spread out over an area.
It isn’t nearly as convenient as destroyed LA with it’s triple hub setup, but at least the WP that takes you to the guild bank works in this version. It’s also significantly more appealing to look at than it ever has been before.

PvP lobby is technically the most efficient base as long as you don’t need guild/forge stuff. Can freely warp there and out at any time. I go to LA anyways because I like Sea World even though everything is so spread out and kind of a pain to back and forth.
>but PvP mapchat is so toxic.
Derail the arguments or ignore it.

Royal Terrace pass. Well worth the price for one stop shopping.
And that right there tells me exactly why LA is so inconveniently laid out. :/
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
Airship for me.
Instead of getting a Royal or Airship pass, the cheap alternative is to go to your borderland’s Garrison, and use the Merchant, Banks, and Forge there. You can go to WvW anywhere in the world, as long as you’re out of combat. If you need to craft, you can either pop a guild crafting station (for 1 hour) or go to Citadel.
Just remember to leave if the WvWers are fighting. In times of emergencies, we need all non-combat players to leave map.
Black Citadel usually, though the distance between the crafting stations and TP in the new LA isn’t all that terrible.
Rata Sum is the most convenient option at the moment.

Nah, it’ll just roll a short distance away.
People still use LA for anything but mystic forge and fractals? Wow, you must love loading times.
DR since early 2014.
I use Rata Sum and Divinity’s Reach mostly for all my “housekeeping” requirements, but I also love the new LA.
My only complaint with the new Lion’s Arch is the repair NPC and a general-use vendor aren’t closer to the bank and TP.
I love the new LA.
But ebokhawk is fun too. More of a fantasy/medieval feel to it.

Both the Royal Terrace and the Airship pass are an item in one char’s inventory at a time and can only be used by that char.
They are account bound items that have to be put in the account bank and transferred to an alt. It would be nice if it was permanent account-wide access without having to move the item around to use it on alts, but then they wouldn’t be selling you extras so you can avoid having to transfer it through your bank.
As for me, I have a single royal terrace pass (infinite use) and usually hang there. I’m not much of a crafter but the pass teleports me there from anywhere in Tyria giving me instant access to the bank and TP. I tend to play a single character for a while so using the bank to transfer to an alt isn’t a big deal for me.

With the two best Wps in the game decimated into oblivion, where do people afk?
Apart from the compact convenience of the post scarlet forge wp, Postern ward had it all: Bank, TP, crafting, laurels, Black lion merchants, views and ambiance.
is there anything comparable elsewhere, now that LA has been turned into a vast open spaced Disney theme park of sterility, boredom and inconvenience??
Need help finding a new non LA home base.
H – E – L – P!
Seriously. Devs really need to learn the term, “Desire paths”.
I was really dissappointed new Lions Arch did not have the Postern ward as the prime location.
no merchant near Bank. Bank not near BL merchants, or crafting… so dumb.

DR since early 2014.
The irony. I get longer loading times with any other capital than I do LA. Well, except Hoelbrak. That and the other cities generally have more tightly packed people so cause fps issues. Grove and Rata Sum especially since they are laid out vertically. LA has fairly short load times for me and zero fps problems.
Rata Sum is the most convenient option at the moment.
I always thought The Grove to be more compact than Rata Sum when it comes to shuttling back and forth between the TP and crafting. With Rata Sum you have to know which point each craft is located and sorry if the two you have are in different points.

Do remember that crafting stations double as banks for any character that has that craft unlocked. And the TP is right near the crafting stations. The only downside is the Forge isn’t super close, but it’s not any farther than it was in the original layout from some of the crafting stations.
Hoelbrak and Divinity’s reach are my home now
Grove is a pretty compact city regarding services. Also, seera, you’re wrong. Craft stations are available as banks regardless of that craft status,
You are crazy. The new LA is a massive improvement over the homeless hovel that it was.
Aestethically that’s true, but the city’s utility went down hard.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I don’t think Lion’s Arch isn’t ruined. Its different and I would rather it stay that way for a while.
When LA was razed, I kinda hung out at the Fort Mariner Waypoint for a while with all my characters. I mostly used the bank and would head out to do any activities.
Then after a bit, I took a liking to the Western Ward. It had the forge there and while the bank was a little ways from the waypoint, I used the crafting stations for quick access right around the corner.
I finally said, “Eff it”, and just moved into the racial cities of my characters.
This turned out to be both convenient and interesting. Waypoints are free in the cities, but sometimes I’d rather walk.
I think Rata Sum won on the convenience factor of everything in one place, with The Grove a close second. Divinity’s Reach comes in dead last for convenience, unless you have a Queen’s Pavilion Pass.
Then you have the PvP lobby. It offers some quick and dirty Bank and BLT access.
Overall, the rebuild Lion’s Arch home to only one of my characters under the Starfish.
The layout of the city makes sense more than it used to. Unused areas have found utility, or will in the near future. There is actual housing for people and not just random buildings here and there, like Divinity’s Reach.
Communal areas that were added for more than just storage and trade.
I actually see people moving about in the streets playing because there is more to do overall.
LA. Not ruined, just different.
I’m rather amazed that a few people would choose Hoelbrak. It is, without a doubt, the worst one.
Not only is everything spaced out so much, the trading post is on another level all together. And to top it all off, you have to listen to that insane metal and steam woman -.-
shudder
Ugh no, I’ll have Rata Sum over any of them. It’s lovely structured and fast access via WP.
I’m actually in LA more often than before. I was usually always in the Grove unless I needed MF. (Used to spend most of my idle time in Caledon till they molested the Trader.) Grove still the MLG of convenience though since the TP, Bank and Crafting areas are all next to eachother and we even get bonus Zelda music.

I don’t care about spacing. Makes no difference to me where anything is. I prefer its look and vibe.

Of course, all the more power to you.
For myself I find that atmosphere gets beaten by efficiency rather quickly.
LA has grown on me, and I love the garden in Divinity’s Reach, but yeah, Ebonhawke has been blowing up lately always crowded.
Black Citadel….since launch.
