I usually use Heart of the Mists and only go to LA if I ever need the forge. I really don’t like the new design/layout of it. The look doesn’t really match the area and it’s inconvenient.

Hopefully Mordy destroys it.

Ruined? That’s drastic.

But alas, I regret the loss of Postern Ward. I’m baffled as to why they didn’t keep multiple crafting areas.

Not a huge loss. Rata Sum has all the banking stuff very close, and it’s close to Maguuma Wastes, so it’s a frequent stop. Crafting is close-ish, but nonsensibly placed.
Black Citadel has all the crafting within reasonable distance, and the trading post is near enough to karma weapon/laurel vendors and a waypoint.
Divinity’s Reach is a decent choice as well, if you just need banking done. Some craft stations are close enough as well.

The Grove is meh. It’s vertical map flow doesn’t fit with map tools well enough for easy transit, and all the waypoints are stacked nearly on top of each other. Banking and crafting are awkwardly placed and on opposed sides of the waypoint.

Want to talk about ruined, though? Hoelbrak’s been ruined since the beginning of the game. The bank/trading post are way too far from anything else, including wayponts, crafting areas are a jump (except for leatherworking), and there’s that idiot right next to the waypoint. You know the one. You pop in, then uncomfortably hug the wall until you can make your escape. Don’t go to Hoelbrak if you can help it.

I simply don’t hang around anymore. I used to stand in LA, the WP, the bank and the wall was convenient. I stayed logged in since there was always something going on in LA. Since then I simply log of when I’m not doing anything particular.

I wish ANet would create a new hub, something that is pretty much like the old Mystic Plaza.

Yet again, they probably don’t want to, since it would contradict the Royal Terrace/Airship pass sales.

GW2 lost something big when they destroyed LA.

It is very important to have a repair station and a WP close to the gate to Fractals of the Mist. That functionality was used extensively at Postern Ward. VERY HANDY !

Having a “Bazaar” or “Farmer’s Market” in LA with all the crafting, TP, Bank and Merchants close by would be very useful. Gives you a place to “empty your pockets” after a long, hot run in the Silver Wastes. :-)

Rata Sum, here.

I miss the LA with character. The new one is a lot like Disneyland. Pretty to visit, wouldn’t want to live there.

LA needs a portal to Ebonhawk. Best layout of all needed stations in one row.

I guess the Royal Terice and Airship are good for those with one main, but I’ll never buy one as an alt-a-holic…..

To be honest, they need to add stations and storage to Fort Trinity.

My eight characters use either Rata Sum or the Black Citadel, depending on which side of the map they are on and what their assignments are. Both have all the necessities nearby to a central waypoint.

LA is a big disappointment. I don’t know if they ran out of artists, or ran out of ideas, but it sure seems a weak effort for all the hype.

I can find only 1 mender, irritatingly out of the way, no close WP to the trading post or the crafting areas. I use it only for the mystic forge daily, when that comes up. For all that emptiness, it sure takes a long time to load too.

I grab my Captain’s Airship Pass

And sing a version of I’m on a boat saying “a ship” instead.

I only wish there was a button in the inventory to swap to the service consumables (revive orbs, boosters, makeover kits, passes, HoM portal, home portal, etc) so I could go there with each character without having to cooooooonstatly switch the thing in the bank. I paid for service, not HASSLE.

The new LA is visibly beautiful, but it’s functionally quite lousy. Rata Sum probably has the most convenient grouping of services outside of airship/terrace, but I’m a hard headed creature of habit and keep going back to LA…

I’m also waiting for permanent airship pass resale. At least, I hope.

I can never understand the love for Rata Sum. The crafting stations are spread across each point, only the bank and TP are close. At least The Grove has all the crafting in one local with the bank and TP very close by.

You all must be focusing on a service or activity I don’t regularly use/do if you think Rata Sum is great.

If you’re not crafting, Rata Sum is great. Bank and Trading Post right next to each other.
If you’re crafting, Grove is probably most convenient, and so is Black Citadel.

I don’t usually find myself crafting multiple crafts at the same time. I’m typically concentrating on one, so the trip back and forth from TP to station is a nice, straight shot.

It doesn’t feel that way to me in the Grove, with the way the stations curve around. I can see why the Grove would be useful if you’re bouncing around between stations, though.

I had always used Divinity’s Reach because I loved the atmosphere and everything was relatively near to each other.

  • Then they made a change that caused only Divinity’s Reach to go from a 15 second load time to over a minute and I’d still load in with invisible walls and floors for about 10 seconds.

I then switched to Rata Sum. Back to 15-20 second load times with the added benefit that many services I used were closer to each other, as well as finally being rid of NPCs walking up to the bank that would cause you to constantly interact with them instead of the bank NPC.

  • However, Accountancy Waypoint in Rata Sum is like the Capitol for trollers dropping interactive items on the NPCs, and mesmers dropping portals on the NPCs that send you plummeting into the abyss. It is also party-central with groups of people having water fights, group photo-ops, dance chains, etc. And, of course, all of these various groups constantly yelling at the other groups to stop interrupting their activity as if they owned the place.

I had enough. I then finally bought the Permanent Captain’s Airship Pass and have had relative silence ever since, as well as everything a few steps away. No need to ever go to LA either as there is also a mystic forge there. I see that you do have an interest in getting this pass. I do not think you will regret it when they go on sale again. You can get the 2-Week passes until the perm goes on sale again, but that is a lot of gems to shell out for temporary access.

Hoelbrack is my go to spot, now for just about everything I need.

Black Citadel is nice, because everything is relatively close, especially the farming nodes in the personal home instance.

If I am on the west side of the map, Rata Sum is my go to place.
I have never liked the Grove.
Divinities Reach is beautiful, but big and not so compact.

As for the new LA, I like it a lot.
However, not so fond of the lay out, but it is beautiful.
I am pretty impressed by the work that went into it.
But since the patch, my transit times into LA has almost tripled and I have experienced a bit of lag while there.
I will go there for the MF, but can get everything I need elsewhere.

I still use LA like I always have, although I agree that it is MUCH less convenient than it was at postern ward when it was still destroyed. However, I think that the new LA is beautiful so that is enough to keep me going to the same hub that I always have. It’s only a couple of steps difference between that and the other cities anyway.
