Hello,
i’m just posting this cause i find it really strange that you can add someone to your black list and still whisp to him.

Just today i was playing as usual and someone got mad cause people were doing an event instead of farming it. I just put one or two word and then he started whisping me, so tryed to replied him and couldn’t then though i could send a mail, and i had the message saying that the chara i was trying to send the mail blocked me.

So what is the point to block people and still be able to whisp, IMO only troller would use it like that but still it’s strange to be able to do it, isn’kitten

You’re not in his blacklist.

Blocking is so they can’t contact you. It assumes that you won’t contact them, since you dislike them enough to block them.

What I don’t get is why I’m able to see where the people I’ve put on block list are in the game. That just takes the cake.

It’s possible to not want to even be on the same map as someone you’ve blocked. It might be someone who is stalking you for example. If you look on the map and see they are in LA, you can go to another city.

I’m sorry, but what does that even mean. Rephrase please.

Ok, well obviously it’s set up to be a one way block only. So once they whisper you, you block them and then both sides are blocked.

I guess that’d be the only purpose unless you both have each other on ignore than you’ll both appear to be offline to each other unless you’re in the same guild and look at the roster.

Yep I’ve been trolled by people in the forums this way. I’ve had to report people on many occasions because they were blocking me, then whispering me some nonsense before logging off entirely for an hour logging back in and doing it again.

Sad that this doesn’t offer anyone better security. I block someone in STO and I never see them again, they aren’t tracked, and my system actively places me in other “channels” on their single shard system (similar to megaservers but smarter).

I’m not understanding the issue, I guess. If someone whispers you, they either whispered something nice, or at least, non-abusive (thus, no problem), or they whispered something abusive, and in that case you report and block. What’s the problem?

It sounds like the only issue is OP can’t whisper some kind of rude comment back, and he/she finds that irksome. Better to report and block, than escalate the confrontation, if that is the case, I would think.

They might not be blocking you – they might just be showing invisibly – the only way to know someone is blocking you is to try to mail them instead of whisper and if the mail gets through without saying “Sorry, this person is blocking you”, then they are invisible and not blocking you.

That said, if they’ve been trolling you and verbally abusing you in any form, you may block them, and report them using the in-game report system and choosing verbal abuse.

yeah, probably an oversight. Many years before when they implemented the system they probably didn’t consider this. I’m sure (if they see this thread) they’ll put it on the to do list. Probably right at the bottom since it’s taken 2 years for this to become a thing.

Well would be good if at least they knew about it.
