Over in the Black Lion Trading discussion forum, some players noticed the change in ecto salvage rates from .9 to .5 , after a patch.

After a few messages, John Smith spoke up, saying that he would look into it.

Now, roughly 24 hours later, there is a patch issued to correct the error.

John Smith. You have demonstrated, in my eyes, that you know how to take care of a situation.

You’re not the only person, but you’re the one I think needs a pat on the back for good work right now.

To ArenaNET management:

John is golden. Please reward him accordingly… and thanks for making this game!

(ps: I got burned a bit on ny trade, because of John’s decisive action.)

I wish he handled class bug fixes. That kind of prompt, hot fix next day action is what is sorely missing from this games other areas in my opinion. :/

Also, it’s nice and all… but, if he fixed the overall drop rate to be as good as it was at launch, and removed the nasty, nasty DR demon from the game I would have made a life size sculpture in his likeness, put it in my garden and danced around it nekkid in the moonlight.

As an engineer I think they seriously need to put John in charge of the class balance in PVE and class redesign (in which they seem to think making changes to everything that’s not broken will somehow fix what is over there)

John Smith is just a common name because John is generally the most common first name and smith generally most common surname, and is also the name of a beer. Could be coincidental or just a generic name he made up.

For changing the Ecto rate back ? If they mess up a rate that hard by accident,it’s only natural to assume it will be fixed right away.I can think of some other reasons he can show off he is the Boss..This is not one of those reasons..

I really fail to see how John Smith is getting the credit for the patch.

We don’t know if it was a direct result of his actions or not.

He is stating a fact. The rhetorical question was lets see what the response will be. The answer is statistically inaccurate. He is simply saying that the forums are not a good place to get the information you are looking for. Not that the information can not be found.

If you survey the forums you are likely to get bias responses. Interesting thing though. The survey in this thread response bias but yet somehow it overcame some of it.

For the record, I’m in the process of saving 250 of each T6 material. I just wanted to flip that around to who Eladriel.7295 that they’re not only being rude, but also that their own needs aren’t any more important than the next guy’s.

kudos to the man he said he’d look into it and found something. he deserves a pat for at least looking into it. there are a few persons in the company i like to see post on the forums and he is one. i like how he kept coming back and stating he was working on it something that anet at times doesnt seem to do and for that he deserves a big kudo

If someone from Anet wants to really impress me they could stop “fixing” Orr, maybe even revert back to the way it was 4 or 5 months ago. Set Plinx free!

I do not believe “Naive” is the word you are looking for, “Wrong” would be the correct word, unless you can post the specific rule violation.

However, I know that they have renamed posts in the past which have used ANet employee names.

What? I do not understand your rebuttal. Though, I do kind of want ice cream now.

Either way, they have stated on the forums in the past that you cannot have ANet employee names in the subject line of your posts, and have changed the posts that have done this. I quoted the rule that I think is the relevant one.

I do not want to hate on what John Smith did, but when he posts at midnight PST in this forum about stuff relating to his work, we should not encourage him. Have a schedule, go home, one day later is still good enough.

is this the same john smith, the arena.net resident economist who defended the measly rate of Gems to Gold ratio (That was 100 gems = some silver) months ago.

I bought lots of gems back then and swallowed the very low exchange rate. i got ripped for sure but its ok coz i don’t give a kitten.

Well, whatever, we’ll probably have the last laugh, seeing as game industry salaries hit their peak back in Tomb Raider (mark one) days, games houses are closing more frequently then pub doors in Israel, anyone that works in the industry is totally at the whim of an extremely fickle customer base and cheap Korean and Indian labour is making it increasingly hard to negotiate anything approaching a decent package.

But still, theres loot in them thar hills right?
