will guild wars 2 add mercenarys to the game
I feel like a mercenary, after all I get paid to do those hearts right? :P
That’s something you can roleplay, isn’t it? Anyone what takes money to fight can be a mercenary.
I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.

I think the poster meant Heroes like in Nightfall .
In Guild Wars, you can buy mercenary slots, which were like heroes, but you got to take your alts with you instead of the heroes.
We’d need to have heroes/henchmen before all of that though.
No there will not be any as the game has no content that needs it, So they say anyway again your merc would take a slot on a map from another play so no i don’t see it working out. Would be nice to have at least 1 for each player tho.
Found them!
15 Char…

They are completely unnecessary for open world maps. If someone really wants to drag an “AI” around there is necromancer and ranger. They should probably visit the respective forums to find just how stupid those AI are …
For dungeons many of the paths have mechanics that heroes would not be able to handle. Same thing with fractals.

That is exactly what our little guild is doing. We are playing being a mercenary band doing jobs all over Tyria. When we are not too busy being heros fighting big dragons and such.
Yeah, I want to bring along an entire party of experienced, well equipped and perfectly balanced adventurers to attack the barrels in the corner while the dungeon boss kills me.
I really, really hope we do not get mercs/heroes/companions.
You can buy some itens to summon pets to fight for you
whats wrong with asking a friend to play with you? He or SHe will be getting rewards as well! Its a win-win
I really don’t think there is good NPC AI, at least at the moment, to even consider henchmen as a possibility. NPCs can’t dodge or avoid AoE reliably and are incredibly squishy. In the game’s current state I don’t see it being possible to make a halfway decent NPC group, at least compared to 5 competent players.

Take your alts with you? That sounds like a really neat idea. Maybe after a few years something like this could be added.
Swift| M Norn Mes Ludicrous Larry| F Norn War Tanni Wolfmaster| M Sylvari Necro Orin Storm|
M Human Thief Clint Elmwood| M Norn Guard Thor Lightning God| Desolation.
Give them a player skill set and you’re good to go. The problem is they use slower animations yet have similar (less?) HP than players which means their DPS is terrible.
Morrï (Mesmer) | Serah Mahariel (Guardian) | Morrï Mahariel (Warrior)

i still say we should be able to contract Order NPC’s to fight with us in zones (excluding dungeons and fractals) for set amounts of time. Possibly even introduce a currency system unique to the orders so that you could do missions for the orders each day and spend it on gear/contracts for mercenaries

This was the worst thing that ever happened to GW1.
It was needed because not enough people would play monks, but it destroyed GW1 as a group game, making everything soloable.
The combo of having healers, and then being able to make a solo-group (such a contradiction), would kill GW2 as an MMO, much as it killed GW1 as a team-PvE game (what’s left over there is a fun solo fantasy RPG that might as well be offline, and a good online PvP game that might as well be split off).

No, they weren’t heros.. they were slots you could purchase and you then specified what toon of yours you wanted to become a mercenary. Then your other toons could add them to the party and can be given a weapon of your choice to them as heros were.
