often, i see people complain in these official forums that many of the maps, especially those mid level maps are empty, without many players in them, well personally i think this is kinda expected since there are 24 different home servers on NA and 27 different home servers on EU.

in the past, people have suggested for “underflow” servers to be made so perhaps those vacant maps may have more players in them.

however, the feedback or support for such a concept does not seems to be that strong and the issue is often buried and forgotten quickly.

i think many people simply do not know what “underflow” server means.

here i shall attempt to explain the concept of “underflow” servers and perhaps introduce another appropriate term for it.

lets call the “underflow” server “MAIN” and our home servers (black gate, tarnished coast, jade quarry, sea of sorrows, etc) will be known as “HOME” and also, in the options menu, we have new check boxes for:

SERVER PRIORITY
- MAIN (all of NA together OR all of EU together)
- HOME (black gate, jade quarry, sea of sorrows, tarnished coast, etc)
- ask me every time (pop up window asking to enter MAIN or HOME)

so how will this work?

for example, if my home server is sea of sorrows, NA home server,

if i have MAIN chosen, my characters will always attempt to join MAIN server where all 24 NA home servers players can play together in the same map.

if MAIN is full then players will join MAIN overflow instead, an overflow created by players from all 24 NA home servers attempting to join MAIN.

so … for HOME it is basically the same as we have now.

ask me every time means the player gets to choose every time there is a map change.

so my question to you all who participate in the general discussion forum, do you think this will solve the so called “low” population problem for the many mid level range maps?

would this instead create more problems by further dividing up the community?

so what do you think?

Wouldn’t fix anything. “Mains” would quickly fill up, probably the majority being from the more populated servers and then when people on low pop servers can’t get into “main” they’d be shoved back over to their own "home"flow with possible less people if some got in “main”.

what if players attempting to join MAIN gets shoved into MAIN overflows?

Just to clarify,
You suggested players can choose whether they want to join “Main” or “Home” maps and if “Main” is full it starts creating “Main” overflows.

If so, there wouldn’t be any point to go into any “Home” map since joining a “Main” server of overflow will be the best bet to play with players. It would also create more confusion for guilds, since you mainly want a guild to be made up of players of that server(especially part-time or full-time WvW guilds).

That’s what happens now. Anyone that doesn’t get into a home/guest server gets shoved into “MAIN” Overflow – overflow made of all the players from the region (NA or EU) that didn’t manage to get to servers they wanted. If you want better comparison with the current situation, you can call the NA “MAIN” Blackgate and EU “MAIN” Desolation. Isn’t the proposal now sounding exactly as what we have allready?

hmmm yeah i guess you are right, but that requires guesting, we do get 2 guesting access per 24 hours though.

question, is black gate (NA) have players in all the maps?

even those mid level maps?

No (or at least not in big quantities – almost no map is ever truly empty). But the “Main” server wouldn’t either.

Having separated servers instead of districts like GW is a pain the kitten .
