A friend recently mailed me a Entropy (hammer) so I could unlock the skin. It won’t let me mail the item back though. Any reason for this?

Once you unlock the skin, it becomes account-bound.

if you unlocked the skin, the item becomes accound bound to you, you can’t mail accound bound items to other people.

Hopefully your friend wasn’t expecting Entropy back. Even if you unlock the skin by right-clicking and choosing “unlock skin,” rather than equipping it, the weapon becomes account bound.

If that wasn’t the case, I’d just buy a ton of weapons off the trading post, unlock their skins for my account, then sell them back. It’s this “one unlock per weapon” restriction that allows weapons skins to maintain their value.

This actually works fine for the cheap stuff.

Yah, it does work for the generic crafted items weapons, such as “elder wood longbow.” You can buy those off the trading post, get the skin then turn around and sell them. I got a bunch of generic crafted weapon skins this way to fill out my wardrobe.

It only works for items that don’t become soul bound when equipped. AKA blue items.

Ah, that makes sense. I occasionally buy white items to skin and pass around between characters, but I forget they’re unbound, not account-bound.
