[Complaint] After 7 hours I give up ...
The only problem I see with the “only those who truly made the effort” mentality is, again (I feel like a parrot) the fact the puzzle is available for a limited amount of time. Which means that some people who truly made an effort won’t make it in time.
Though if the event will repeat next year/the same puzzle will be available again, I have a lot less issues with it. As long as there are more chances to try than just the next four days, I’m content.
It just occurred to me that I haven’t even bothered to ask this, but why do the people who are complaining about this puzzle being too hard have to complete it? Why is it such a big deal to look at this one thing in a potpourri of events and just say “You know what, this is out of my league.” and move on?
-wants to be a special snowflake-
I love how you quoted me trying to say everything I said was incorrect when you clearly still don’t read posts. You’re just another troll in the bunch who don’t want anyone more than themselves to complete this puzzle.
If the puzzle was fair for most players..most players wouldn’t want the problems with it fixed. It’s literally that simple. Nothing you whine about will ever change that. Lots of people don’t even care about the item reward from this at all, they just want to be able to beat it. Sure, nobody NEEDS the achievement, but why would Arenanet add in a jumping puzzle in an mmorpg without the intent of having the majority of their playerbase be able to finish it? Try thinking with your brain for once in this thread.
making an argument out of nothing
Please, oh please, tell me where I failed to read your post that detailed what the “actual” issues are and then proceeded to tell me I don’t read posts. I’m pretty confident that I addressed all your points with valid retorts from my 2nd post in this thread where I supported the very things you claimed were the “actual” issues at hand.
I have no reason to not want people to complete the puzzle, you might be mistaking that for my absolute disgust at this silver platter generation who think they can just have everything lowered to their level of utter incompetence if they shed enough tears. You know what I do when I want to get better at something, anything? I practice until I can do it if it means that much to me.
P.S. The creator of the map himself said he didn’t expect more than 5% of the population to successfully complete the puzzle, hurr durr.

This puzlle should have an Easy and Hard Instance, but without the same rewards at the end.
This way everyone will be happy.
Asura thing.
No. This jumping should be instancied, or the rise of the … green fog ? should be reduced. Right now the best advices for this jumping puzzle is to make useof black lion speed boost or reroll a Charr/Norn. Its just pure frustration, not event fun at all.
-still being a special snowflake-
Clearly you don’t read. You proved it by ignoring everything I’ve been saying. I don’t want special treatment, I want actual problems fixed. People clearly are having the biggest problems completing this puzzle because they can’t see their characters enough to make precision jumps without any room for a pause. Also people aren’t being able to do this because of the major camera problems that still haven’t been fixed since release.
You’re just another forum troll that thinks they can be the only one to beat it.
Enough said. You’re wrong. Get out already.
Give me a quick second to dig something up for you since you’re so hellbent on being combative.
I’m not being combative, I’m paying attention to what the vast majority are saying on the forums.

Me attempting to explain to you that I agree with your stand on camera and player fixes
The OP sounded like a “please nerf this because I’m incapable and everything must be made to accommodate me” to me, maybe I’m just jaded by WoW and what ended up happening with that game.
Also, my 2nd post in this thread I actually did agree that characters blocking each other was an issue. I also acknowledged that although I didn’t have any camera issues, perhaps it was just my setup AKA I didn’t dismiss the potential of the problem just because I didn’t experience it.
My 2nd post in this thread, which coincidentally supports the very things you’re attacking me about
Nonsense, I’ve run into plenty of people who love the puzzle and I see more positive posts about it than negative. As for the “unacceptable design flaws”, half of them are just nitpicking. Standing around chatting with people while you wait for the puzzle to reset isn’t that big of a deal IMO, watching a 5 second cutscene isn’t that big of a deal IMO either. Being blocked by enormous charr and norn is annoying, I’ll agree, but after a few go’s at the puzzle it’s not particularly difficult to remember where to jump. Lastly, I never had a single camera issue with the jump puzzle… I play with my camera about 3-4 clicks out from full zoom in, so maybe that had something to do with it.
Regardless of all this, I stand by my statement that near-meaningless achievements shouldn’t be cheapened for the sake of someone’s inability to _ achieve_ them.
The only thing I’m against is the nerfing, AKA dumbing down, of this puzzle. I have absolutely no reason to refute any claims of bad camera angles, speed exploits, or players blocking your view. Stop being so intent on telling me I don’t read posts when you clearly aren’t reading mine, you’re fighting me for literally no reason.
It is the time… that is the problem here. Other jumping puzzles you could take your time and do them slower. Here you need to be fast. Not everybody can do that stuff fast. I like to wait after some jumps and carefully move the char a bit slowly in position to do the next jumps.
Still it should be possible do to the tower if you try enough. But then again the time – it is limited to the halloween event. They could at least have chosen a puzzle where you can wait between the jumps.
Or make it instanced for faster tries that you don’t have to wait for all the other to fall or complete before being able to try again.
Or make it instanced for faster tries that you don’t have to wait for all the other to fall or complete before being able to try again.
Something I mentioned earlier but would like to bring up again.
The waiting would be much less frustrating if it didn’t involve waiting for people to die. No, seriously, the way this jumping puzzle resets involves counting how many players are left alive in the puzzle instance.
If everybody dies, the reset moves much faster. So long as one person remains alive, the puzzle timer will reset at the rate at which the fog moves up the puzzle until it eventually reaches the top and it’s actual reset point, when players are allowed to re-enter the puzzle and try again.
For those who fail often – of which I openly admit I’m one of them – you kind of end up spitefully wishing everybody would just die so you can get back to the puzzle faster. This wait really is tedious and beyond that, would be renderred unnecessary if the zone itself was more specially instanced in the way story mode dungeons were. (We’d also remove the problem of griefers, racial height issues and exploiters impeding the gameplay of others. Bam, two birds with one stone!)
sense
Yeah, while the waiting didn’t bother me terribly, I can definitely get behind an instanced version. Would definitely help with the whole Charr tail slapping you in the face the whole way up the tower too, lol.
Agreed, i wouldnt mind it being this hard if it wasnt tied to the halloween main achievment which i’v been planning on getting, only problem is that i can do all of the other achievments but the clocktower -.-
Please remove this achievment from the halloween ones atleast, or make it easier, even making it a solo instance is better.

The puzzle achievement isn’t counted towards the Emissary title, fret no more!
I’ve been working hard to do all the Halloween achievements, but the clock tower is depressing me. I can get to the first stationary cog platform, but the next series of jumps get me every time. 5 hours of trying, I’m now just feeling sad, and losing heart with the whole Halloween event
I have no idea how people are not only doing it but farming it time and again. Watched the video, and I’m not even getting a tenth of the way. This is too tricky and soul destroying for me as an older gamer.

Muscle memory, of a sort.
It’s the same kind of “memory” that allows people to type without ever looking at the keyboard, which also improves the speed of their typing dramatically the more often they type.
Practise really does make perfect, in most cases.

My situation is absolutely same with OP.
This JP is awesome, but it too difficult for people who have no JP talent like me. I have spend 6 hours to try, to review youtube, and to ask suggestions from my guild members, but even the drop point is out of reach.
Very, very frustrate.
It’s the time mainly. I’m pretty good with JP, but I need to take time to set a jump up – the Mad King doesn’t give you any.

This is the problem with gamers these days, so many of you have no idea what a challenge is. Modern games are so easy to complete that just about anyone could do it. Personally I’m happy to be challenged again like games did years ago.

I have frakking Platinum God in The Binding of Isaac, despite the horrible problems Flash games have for many people, like achievements not unlocking at all at random.
I know challenge and difficulty.
I’m fighting against game bugs and issues here, not challenge and difficulty.

Some things can’t be completed with massive numbers of people lagging out the area and blocking the view. If you are standing on flat ground pounding on something, ok, you don’t have to be able to move or see.
If you are trying to do a jumping puzzle you need to be able to move and see.
Hopefully the majority of folks did the puzzle right away and will go do something else now and that will help resolve the issues.

I did it zoomed in fully as a minimum size Sylvari AND managed to collect all the chests on the way up.
Your point is invalid.
Doesn’t seem too bad to me. My only complaint is that I can’t use the #6 heal skill without copping a kitten fit from 1/3rd of the other people attempting the puzzle.
(If you have 6 Centaur runes, then you get a good 10-15 seconds of swiftness when you press 6 (even though it doesn’t cast the heal spell.))
Without the swiftness, I fall short on a lot of jumps.
As an asura, it is near impossible to complete this.
I know you’re supposed to somehow learn to maneuver and memorize the puzzle and WITH the zerg, but come on… While everyone is two-three times bigger than you, how do you expect to succeed? I can’t see where I’m going as a result, and miss 50% of my jumps because of this.
The puzzle itself is nice and creative, but why the hell is this a group event? soloing this would be 50 times easier.
I’ve been working on the clock tower for 3 hours now, and I do feel like there is a major problem with it. Anet should consider either giving us more time or allowing us our own private instance. If you’re an Asuran and there are Norns or Charr in your clock tower instance you literally cannot see where you are to make the jumps. Because of the close time restraint you can’t stagger people out either. Everyone is on top of one another until people fall off. I purposefully chose to attempt this beginning at 3am as well, hoping that the early morning would alleviate the crowd. It did not.
I am really hoping that Anet can remedy this by either giving the player their own private instance to avoid this disparity, or by allowing us a bit more time so we can stagger out and avoid being one large lump of bodies. As it stands, the clock tower is not fun for me, and I normally adore jumping puzzles. I absolutely abhor this crowded mess that I feel would otherwise be a fun challenge.
after 3 hours, i got only 3 times to that place http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Mad_Kings_Clock_Tower-24-1024x640.jpg and all 3 times it was already drowned.
Well I had fun, took me about an hour to get to the top – but once you’ve been up there and kinda know the way, then it’s a lot easier.
Y u complain on reflexex, after 7 h you can do the jumping blindfolded. Just pay attention to what ur doing…
