Am I the only one who always pictures John Lithgow when he talks? Especially in the Ascent to Madness instance.

Next time I play that’s definitely going to be a “cannot unhear” thing…

I thought he sounded a bit like Bane from the batman movie

I’m pretty sure I’ve heard the voice before, or at least the manierism…

I pictured Oogie Boogie when he spoke, with a deeper tone.

This and the laugh are the best.

All of his lines are priceless, laugh being on top.

He sounds quite like Brian Blessed to me!

Mad King Thorn sounds very similar to the Mage-Lord Urum from one of the WoW Dungeons, especially when he’s shouting angrily!

Isn’t it the same guy that does that announcer voice for PvP?

Not the voice itself, but the manner in which he speaks, reminds me a lot of Sheogorath.

As for the manner of speaking, he reminds me of the Red Guy from the Cow and Chicken cartoon.

Is Thorn’s voice being done by voice actor Ken Page? Just hearing Thorn’s laugh during the trailer made the voices seem very simular.

YES! I so picture him too, especially when he sings the line ~listen to the music in your head, DANCE!~

He just sounds like the many charr his VA has already given his voice to, just with an ekittended. Sort of wish they brought in a new VA to do his voice, but I guess it’s financially unsound to hire a new VA once a year for a few lines.

I would love to know who does the voice acting for the Mad King Thorn. It’s perfect!

A group I was in this evening almost unanimously complained that the voice-over (and acting) for the Mad King was horrible. I thought they were crazy, and came to the conclusion that people really will complain about anything.

If it isn’t Frank Welker doing his voice, I would be extremely surprised.

I got a hint of Sheogorath from him. Especially in the dungeon. I kept expecting him to yell “CHEESE FOR EVERYONE!!!”

Best voice acting in the game.. actually delivers lines with correct intonation and emphasis and everything. Unlike 99% of the others.

Only thing I can complain about is at default volumes in the dungeon, his voice often becomes a bit too quiet with certain words so the only way I can hear what he’s said is to read it.

Overall, though, I was initially worried about how they’d make him sounds since he’s always been voiceless in GW1, however I was pleasantly surprised. I agree with the above poster, he’s voice acted very well.

I was totally thinking that too!

I was impressed when I got the first taste of his voice in Reaper’s Rumble. And I continue to be impressed. I like it a lot for some reason.

Bane is a good comparison. I hope for 2 things.

1) That he has the same voice next year.

2) That he talks A LOT during the party on the 31st.

His voice meshed so well with my mental image of the Mad King that I was just now looking on YouTube for GW1 footage to see if it was the same voice actor. Totally forgot he never had a VA before!

Also, a lot of asura sound like Ray Romano

Regardless, his voice acting is excellent. o_o “Oh. How unfortunate for you.”

The game needs a villian outside halloween that can deliver memorable lines like this.

He is, in my opinion, one of the few well voiced characters in the game, and the only ‘bad guy’ with a voice worth remembering. I mean honestly when I try to look back at my personal story… I can’t remember any of those characters, their lines, their voice acting, other than Traherne, and not in a positive way; His lines were so ego-centric, that it has become the only reason I even remember his character.

I’m hoping to see this kind of quality in personality, voice acting and lines in future content, atleast for characters that matter.

I’m not 100% certain, but I believe Jon St. John does the voice for the Mad King.

He’s a friend of the family and he posted on his Facebook a few weeks ago that he got finished recording the vocals for the Halloween Event and he’s the only one that I can think of that fits the bill. If it wasn’t him then I will be surprised.

He’s famous for other characters such as voicing Duke Nukem, Dudebro, a few other characters in Guild Wars 2 and many more.

Compared to the somewhat stilted (or in the case of the sylvari Vigil rep, very stilted) voiceacting in the rest of the game, the Mad King is great. In the Japanese dub, the equivalent would be Norio Wakamoto.

My only problem with the MK farm is that it’s a bit too obvious that the dialogue was recorded long ago for the actual 31st event, and that the minidungeon was added later without any additional recording. Still fun!
