What got you motivated to beat the Clock Tower?

Pretty much this. I had failed a few times, and once that happened… And I heard other players completing it, I was pretty much determined to be among those people as well.
Mostly, my determination to beat all jumping puzzles that they throw my way, but it also reminded me of an incredibly old platform game from the Eighties on the Sinclair Spectrum. For the life of me, I can’t remember its name, but it was exactly the same concept: jump from platform to platform around a rotating tower.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.

QFT… and I suck at jumping puzzles and even hate some of the vista’s for resembling a jumping puzzle to much
As much as it made me mad it was very addicting. The further I would get and remember the pattern the more I pushed to finish it. My wife thought I was crazy spending so much time on it, but she was actually pretty impressed when I finally beat it.
I wanted to say I did something that a lot of people where saying was impossible. Guess that’s the Norn in me, just another accomplishment to add to my legend!
Simple , it was freaking fun.
I understand some people did not have fun while failing , but to me it was still fun.
I like these simple minded mini games , just go in and jump till you win.
Self-challenge, I always loved beating hard stuff in games, maybe that’s also why I’m playing elementalist and it’s kitten fun.
Hopefully xmas JP will be even harder :>

Just getting home from an awesome Halloween party, cracking open a twelve pack of Shocktop, and having a good mood and a relaxing atmosphere worked for me. Only took me about an hour to get through and I was laughing and enjoying myself the entire time. Getting frustrated rarely helps with anything.
Goal: To have one character of every race, gender, and armor class combination at level 80.
Current progress: Human 4/6 | Charr 1/6 | Norn 1/6 | Sylvari 1/6 | Asura 1/6 | Total: 8/30
I didn’t mean to beat it. After about half an hour though, it was like “I already learned the first half! I can’t stop now or my efforts would have been wasted!”

I could not stand leaving it unfinished. About 11 hours later and 2 giant Coke Slurpee (and a handful of candy corn) I finished it and completely crashed for 14 hours of sleep.
When I woke up I thought it was around 7-8 am but it was 4 pm at night (storm outside).
Addiction to challenge.
And because if I can kill Akylios without dying, I can make a series of jumps.

At first, I just wanted to get the achievement. Then it just became an awesomely difficult challenge that I wanted to prove I could do. I knew I was making progress because I would start to get farther and farther in the puzzle (even with many setbacks) until finally I made it.
Then I proceeded to complete it on two more characters.
Rage. Rage was my motivator. I’m not gonna say how much cussing I did or how angry I got before I finally got it, but let’s just say Palpatine would have been proud.
My motivation was not beating it so many freaking times. When I finally did it I wailed in victory like a maimed narwhal and ran around my house swearing in triumph. My wife spent this time laughing at me and my stupidity.

What motivated me to beat it was that i had done all the other halloween achievements but once i did it i stopped doing it by the time i did it i was so fed up with all the charrs blocking the way it toke me approximately 20-40 tries.
Because im good at jump puzzles and by god I was going to prove it.
Also the feeling of being one of the first few people to beat it is awesome.
Pure completitionist attitude. Only reason i spent 3 days for it, and finally i completed it.
What got you motivated to beat the Clock Tower?
It was there.
I want more content like this, when content is hard but fare like this I feel i have to complete it.
when i did I texted a few of my Buddy’s and my guild leader after jumping out of my chair with a YES!!!
Anet needs more content like this, it gets people talking and even if the rest of GW2 fails and we forget it we will always remamber the awesome MK Clock tower

another part of it for me was knowing that my ten year old self probably could have done this with the Inventory box open and eating a hot pocket.
At first I just wanted to beat my friend to it. But then I found it incredibly fun and finished it more than once – first time without any boosts cos my friend “forgot” to mention that booster haste still applies in the puzzle :P.

Haha, oh man. This didn’t occur to me as I was doing it, but you’re right.
Ten year old me is laughing somewhere because they just did it with inverted controls, half the screen missing and upside-down while picking out their next pair of neon-colored shoes.

It’s sad that even I say that back when i was 12 or so, i was a better gamer. Simply becouse games nowerdays dont test your skill, and so you get lazy ..your performance drops etc. And the funny thing is ..i learned to game on the Atari and Genesis and other consols and home PC’s of the same period..BUT they were already considered old when i was playign them …im only 25 .. i should be saying .“im at the prime of my gaming ability” ..but im not ..becouse games today are just to easy. I can complete a normal Singleplayer game in a few days.. thats rediculus.
I even stumbled apon a report on Devil May Cry 3 a couple weeks ago ..back from when it wa released to us westerners. Apparently the Devs accidentily made the western version normal mode the equivilant to japans hard mode, causing players ot get pissedo f becousei t was to hard. I didnt even notice lol. I didnt find the game challenging till i went up on the difficulty after 1 play through.
And befor som1 else come along and says “tipical elitst hardcore jerk” or some such that usualy gets spouted .. I can count on 1 hand the number of games iv played in the past 6 months, thats by no means hardcore ..i play GW2 maybe 3 to 6 hours a day now ..tbh im getting a bit bored of GW2. My top character is lvl 80 using a exotic weapon and level 67 rare gear. By no means elitist or hardcore :P

What you read is true. They even released a “Special Edition” later on that they made easier than easy. I remember spending a whole evening just trying to kill Cerberus (on the original release), going rage mode until it just clicked, I got it, and after that I couldn’t play it on anything less than Hard.

You know what ..i’ve got DMC3 on PS2 ..i might burn it into a ISO and play it on PCSX2 emulator just for fun lol. Cant stand the way my old PS2 looks on a big HD TV ..thankfully PCSX2 allows upscalling resolutions

the sucky part is I know New game’s are just way to easy and its not the fact that i have just gotten better, because i often go back and play the old game’s that i could just crush when i was younger((often on roms or the GameBoy Re-relies’s)) and they just crush me, and i’m all like “WOW i don’t ever remember this being this difficult… its awesome!”
The mad kings bad jokes made sure I was going to complete this puzzle even after 10 hours of failing.
Also I was making it pretty far and kept making silly jump mistakes that would prevent me from completeint it.
I made it many times past the long drop only to miss an easy jump before the clocktower hehe.

I was sustained by pure anger from the moment I started the puzzle until I finally completed it the next day.
Simple, platforming is my favorite kind of game. It was by far the most fun part of the whole holiday event.
It reminded me of a game that I was playing as a kid. Pandemonium i think was a name.

That game got hard as u got into it, i remember playing that on my old 486100 .. atleats i think it was my 486100 ..might have been a pentium 1..anwyay ..yea that game was cool. Still got the CD somwhere i think :P

I played BT back in the day ..that level is what ended my time playing BT ..its INSANE , very very very very few people legitimatly and truthfuly completed it. I am am not ashamed to say i did NOT complete BT lol.

Yup. Because even THAT level can be completed with a bit (A LOT) of practice and all you need is reaction and muscle memory. CT is same. The only difference is you get infinite lives/continues in GW2.

What motivated me was all the people who said they couldn’t do it. So naturally I had to do it.
Motivation? After playing Super Meat Boy and Cave Story Hell Level the Clocktower is just nice and peaceful entertainment for the whole family.
The closer I get to the top the more people I will hear falling to their death behind me. If I get all the way to the top I will be able to hear everyone else fall to their death behind me.
There is no better feeling than knowing that in places unknown to me all around the world people are raging because they fell down from the tower, and I know that they fall because I heard them getting sucked into the green mist.
Aaahhhh, malicious pleasure.
I just have to do everything at least once.
I did everything at least once in GW1.
There was a title and some slippers to be acquired, so I did it.
And I had to do it looking at the floor because of the camera problems.
Completionists have to do it all. <Insert innuendo joke here>
