Does anyone else feel like shaking the naughty finger?.When I was bleeding from the eyes from boredom from another well known sub based game. I decided to try the free cough additional benefits of diablo 3,simply as I loved the first two games and expended hundreds upon hundred of enjoyable hours on them. Sadly for me the relationship with diablo 3 was doomed form start,Lets summaries,you either get it free and can not play, you purchase it and can neither download or if able play it, it` s a little glitch sever kick monster, so if you get online,well.. hold on to every second as its all your getting blinky! And this lasted for a million seller game..and people are complaining about a time difference?, do you not perhaps think the start of Halloween will happen ,you know when it does and really enjoy it?as oppose to waiting ,fists clenched and grinding teeth and begrudgingly worrying though the thing you are

I don’t know where you got this from as the launcher and the “read more” link are still saying 22nd October with no timezone.

They sent out emails about this event. European emails said the 23rd.

When you give just a date, most people expect the event/release to be at the start of the date. Even after you factor in the timezone difference. Most people will expect it to be released at 0000hrs Pacific time.

Which is why, I strongly promote the use of a specific time for release. If anything happens the developers can just inform users that there is an issue and extend the time.

Still I think to go so far as to post what Bad Villain did is well not right.

Why is it that poor behavior from customers is OK, but problems in developing or rolling out a complicated addition to an online game – without killing the servers to do so – isn’t? They’re basically looking at this as an upgrade to an automobile – while it’s still running. You’re suggesting that a company just give in to the whines – and when the product they release is flawed, they eat it for that, too. Given that kind of customer mentality, it’s a wonder anyone even tries in the business in the first place. There’s a point when you make concessions, and a point when you fire the customer. Given the whinging by many in this thread and others, the game’d better off without ’em.

so, those of us that work in est will not really be able to play much, unless we want to forgo sleep, untill the 23rd. when i heard the 22nd, i was of the thought sometime in the afternoon. i was expecting to be able to have it when i got home from work and have a full evening to play, silly me.

ok, i have no problem with them releasing it whenever they want, its their software. i just feel that they were misleading in what they said regarding the release timewise. i was really looking forward, all day long, to being able to play it tonight. being that i have to get up for work at 6am est, i will not be able to do anything tonight. had they said that it was gonna be this late in the evening/ night, i would have been ok with that. they just need better communication is all.

They had a video stream earlier today, explaining that the patch was still being worked on and would be released later tonight. They also said it was going to be a late evening patch on twitter about 14 hours ago.

But if people checked that stuff, and read where they said quite specifically it would be the 23rd in Europe (therefore meaning at LEAST evening the 22nd PST for everyone in the U.S.) and watched the live stream that stated they were having to work on things (it happens, game breaking stuff shows up, get the hell over it) , they couldn’t come here to moan that the arbitrary time that they set for themselves has come and gone lol

Be glad they are not certain other companies-who-shall-not-be-named and taking the servers down for HOURS. They are doing a live update, with a lot of content, pushed while maintaining the ability for players to keep playing. You might want to pretend you know better, but it’s a lot of work, things come up, and it just happens. This event is quite long, it’s not like you’re going to miss out if you’re a few hours or even a workday late.

Whereas if someone had said instead of a copy paste response something like, ‘The update will likely not be released for another x hours.’ Most of the QQers would have looked at the post time, worked out what time it would be for them and most likely have gone to bed instead of sitting here moaning for hours that it isn’t out yet and they have been waiting for no reason.

I know a lot of people don’t use twitter and other social networking sites like that so a lot were looking at the big news on the official forum and missing the tiny little star next to the october 22nd headline, and like many others I didn’t recieve any emails about the event. I’m not complaining about this, but I do think that a more productive answer from the Devs in the structure I mentioned above would have been more productive and resulted in slightly less QQ.

If it’s 11:59 PST then I think that works out to 8 AM for us in the UK which I personaly actualy think is a decent time for an update.

One would have thought that there would be a definitive answer to give…

Just wanted to say thank you for the update and I’m looking forward to it. As for those talking about the different time zones. I know of quite a few games that are ALL on PST. What’s the difference honestly? Someone in another zone will still have to do the math regarding times.

That’s not true though. ALL their updates have been extremely late in the evening PST. This is just another update. So you may have spent the last 4 years in another game not waiting…maybe even GW1, but in this game, I’ve already grown used to staying awake late if I want to see the content, which says something. It’s called a pattern….

I played Guild Wars for several years. Guild Wars 2 should first and foremost be a sequel to its predecessor. In the original Guild Wars when arenanet said an event would start they gave a very specific time. You could have made a countdown timer if you so chose. Guild Wars 2 on the other hand is showing to arenanets paying customers that their same attention to time is more than lacking. For instance, any typical Guild Wars event started at forgive me if I’m wrong but I think 6 a.m. Pacific Time so.. 8 a.m. or so in Texas where I live and I could count on that…EVERY time. I had planned on buying all of the gemstore halloween items, but now I don’t even know how many gems I will need and I wanted to be one of the first to be sporting one of these items. I have no clue when I will get to purchase them at all, unless you count before tomorrow. I believe “before tomorrow” is the most unsatisfactory timeframe I have ever heard of ever at all. Except perhaps “before I die.” So, arenanet I commend you on the quality of your game. I instead express immense displeasure with your communication and dedication to living up to the expectations of your dedicated gamers and we really deserve better than this next time.

The mere fact that you believe your age is the sole factor dictating your maturity is proof that you’re not as mature as you seem to believe. You paid for Guild Wars 2, and that’s exactly what you got. You got the game you paid for which is getting a FREE Halloween update, one that in all honesty ANet is under no obligation to provide.

You didn’t lose a day of Act 1. The plan was to release it at this time. There is no missed time.

None of this fills me with a terrible rage. That’s not surprising though, since I’m not prone to getting filled with terrible rage.

Honestly, I really expect to log in tomorrow morning before work and see the update then. They always released event updates in the middle of the night with GW1 so I just assumed it would be the same with GW2. After all, that schedule’s worked for them for many years now.

I’m hoping they have a wicked looking jack-o-lantern hat that we can get during this event. That would make me really happy.

All these people are whining about time zones and whining about when Anet said the patch would be released and whining about people whining.
The only thing I’m concerned about is possibly missing a big one time event when the patch goes live. It’s 10pm here and I unfortunately have to get up early. If I miss a one time event I’ll be genuinely upset. If the event’s for each act repeat a few times I don’t see any reason to complain.

People need to understand ANet (Which a terrific US company) is fairly small in comparison to other huge companies (cough… Blizzard…cough). They do not yet have the resources to dedicate a group of people to update the EU servers seperately. Nor do they have the time or probably the energy to put up with so many people complaining on the forums

I also would like to report tat i received no mail, thus assumed tha patch would be out at 22nd October (GMT).

Why are people whinging about PST/PDT?
It’s hardly an effort to go to your browser and type in PST now, 2 seconds and there’s at least three sites ready to give you Pacific standard time right now.

Yes it is free content.
You paid for the game as is, on release, any further content you don’t pay for is FREE!
The only things Arenanet charge for are, the game and any expansions and the gem store.

And no, telling you that there is millions of lines of code to work with and one wrong insert and a whole lot of bad happens is not an excuse it’s a fact.

Arena net have one of the best customer services in the gaming world, imo. They strive to put out a superior product with as few problems as possible and if they do not believe in shoddy fast fixes like some other companies, who will remain nameless, that end up affecting game quality the good on them.
I’m willing to wait for quality and I know Arena net will deliver, maybe not as soon as people would like but they will deliver.
In the end its all for you. It’s not in their best interest to alienate their player base, so be sure they are doing their best.

The entire exchange between us has been regarding the community team leader’s use of “impatient.”

It is unprofessional in any profession to call your customers name. By stating that we are “impatient” they are indeed doing so. Calling a customer impatient is not a way to win awards or money. Quite the opposite.

That’s what this is about. (Our exchange) so stop taking it elsewhere.

Do you honestly expect me to believe you run a business, then call your customers “impatient” and expect me to believe you actually make a living? I don’t think so.

Very few businesses can get away with having customers come in to buy something, and being harassed with verbal abuse, regardless of how it’s used, and expect to win them over.

That’s the point! It’s the first major update and everyone automatically assumes that because they want it earlier in the day, it will be posted in the middle of the day.

The Devs, and ANet employees who do updates (all of them) picked the time they do updates for a specific reason. I don’t know what that reason is, and I doubt I’ll ever find out. But if they picked that time (late evenings on Mondays’) Why would they change that for a major content update? It’s still an update….there is nothing wrong with it being at normal update time…

Not to me they didn’t, and not to anyone in my guild either. As I said it doesn’t matter now. As far as I’m concerned, if they haven’t released it yet it’s because they are being sticklers for detail (as usual) and making sure its working properly before they go live.

It would be nice if they would actually post this information on the official forums in an easy to see place. I hate having to go to 3rd party websites to get official news. I refuse to even create a Facebook account so anything they post there I’ll never see.

Soo what you are saying is that everyone should jam the European servers to play the new content 6 hours in advance? :o? awesome idea! lets flood a couple english and french and german servers with all americans and cause those natives to be upset for not being able to play.

Can they chose a little better time that’s a little more fair to the Western and Eastern Hemisphere? of course The argument for one timezone over another is heavily flawed though. Especially when there are plenty of sources to find out what the current PST time is by going to the in game clock and setting it to “Server Time” which is PST.

That’s not true though. ALL their updates have been extremely late in the evening PST. This is just another update. So you may have spent the last 4 years in another game not waiting…maybe even GW1, but in this game, I’ve already grown used to staying awake late if I want to see the content, which says something. It’s called a pattern….

The 22nd has come and gone for quite a lot of people in the EU. Maybe not for the Americans. There was a reason I said ‘for them’.

Just FYI, you site says specifically 7 pm PST at the bottom. Not just sometime on October 22.

Also, for most who hear 22nd, they think prime gaming time. 10 pm-11pm EST is NOT prime gaming time. Might as well say the 23rd.

Why does everyone assume there are problems with the patch?

Normal update time is still 2 hours away. Why makes you think they will update any sooner than they do any other week?

Umm how about 4 years of not having to wait until after 8:55 p.m. of the posted date for release??? Any European player who is upset that they didn’t get to play on the 22nd needs to learn to read their email. Where they were told the event would be live on the 23rd.
