10 Reasons teff will get GS
Rifle.
I’m going to hate this joke, because it’s an awful joke

GS is the most boring weapon ever. I will be more hyped if they will give thief a warhorn and call him the Scarecrow.
So thiefs will sneak up on you and then loudly blow in the ear? Will cause confusion or daze, I guess.
New condition: Heart Attack
mace – because real life thugs of old did use small blunt weapons for knocking ppl out.
Great Sword on thief
2) Its a Samurai/Ninja Katana Theme
Doesn’t make sense, there is as far as memory serves me 2 greatswords based on Asian weaponry, 1 katana, that is way to big and would probably be more of a odachi. And then we have the somewhat loosely based chinese saber that is Dragon’s Jade Avenger.
Not to mention that ninja’s would usually use a 1-handed straight blade, or with very little curve. And thief don’t have a samurai theme at all, so that doesn’t make sense. Not to mention the jade gs, Thief have nothing in common with any style that utilizes Chinese sabers, hmmmm there might be some hidden styles, but highly unlikely considering the size and that the hidden style would be assassination related.
Rifle.

guard is the only one to receive range weapon.
thief will receive a focus for tanking

Necro already got GS, i don’t find this amusing in any way
Thief is most likely getting rifle, and I don’t see how GS could work with thief. Aren’t they supposed to be quick and agile EVEN when playing different builds?

Didnt you read it :o (JK) Thief stole it from Necro XD
lol, fun thread
that said, if guardian is getting longbow based off living story Braham/Eir and necro is getting gs based on Belinda/Marjory, shouldn’t thief be getting a dragon pet (seeing as Caithe stole the dragon egg)?
for samurai theme a offhand sword would fit better

the skrittfinisher was my idea!
I would love an offhand sword!
Might be main-hand mace though.
Offhand sword can’t really work with mainhand dagger. It doesn’t make sense. But seeing as this thread is a joke, why not have mainhand torch? You haven’t lived until you’ve beaten something to death with a burning stick.

Considering that every known weapon has been of different type per class (4 of 9 already known) I doubt that GS will be given to 2 classes.
It does not fit thief theme at all.
Also don’t base your assumptions on the misrepresentation of the weapon in MMOs.

Last time I checked, 60-70 centimeters =/= 180 centimeters…
My thief is so thin. I wonder how he will carry a greatsword on his back.
I’d like to see the rifle as well. perfect tech assassin weapon….the sniper!
Me too. I like the idea of rifle and “sniper” specialization. Right now thief has lots of mobility and use he stealth to get close to the enemy, strike and hide. It would be nice to see thief using stealth to reposition himself to get away from target hide and attack from distance while being lock to one position (aiming just like some warrior’s rifle skills).
My thief is so thin. I wonder how he will carry a greatsword on his back.
Um… its fantasy, he will have a way XD
If you were a ranger you be able to XD

There is one way! But it’s painful and expensive. It’s called… total makeover kit <thunder>.

Then it would technically be sword/dagger because the sword would be in your main hand…

Ohh Hand Sword Held backwards! More as Defensive weapon XD
10 reason they will have torch :
1- Maguma jungle is dark and all, they need fire to see where they go
2- Mordremoth minions… Kill it with fire!!!!!
3- There is no smoke without fire!
4- It’s time for the thief to stop relying on other fire field to grant might to their ally
5- Legendary weapon Incinerator (it already feal like a torch)
6- Making ash clone for a taste of mesmer
7- Need burn as a condition to feel OP (or not)
8- More burn and might
9- more blind
10- Still kill everything with fire!
I could do it like the OP.

And add new aoe skill “campfire”. In 1200 radius around it everyone becomes friendly, sits around the campfire and heals up while casually talking about holy trinity.
Whats with all these peopel and their unrealistic dreamthinking about Thieves getting Great Swords ..
Won’t happen, not this time, not anywhen later.
Great Swords don’t fit to Thieves at all.
Thieves are an agile medium armored class, that sets worth on swift and graceful athletic combat moves, they would never fight at all with a slow, heavy and clunky to handle great sword.
There exist absolutely no Samurai in the lore of Guild Wars, not in the past, not now, so dream implementign them isn’t the way how it works to give it a reason why Thieves should get out of a sudden Great Swords..
This round especially not, because Necromancers receive them already and every Class gets with their E-Spec a different weapon.
So from all options that are left, Thieves will either receive:
- Maces
- Axes
- Torch(es)
- Rifle
- Scepter
- Focus
That are the weapons from land combat, which curreently have no class assigned to for their E-Specs. And from those 6 Options, basically the first 4 are the only ones, that make any sense, unless ANet wants to make the first Thief-E Spec become more of a physical/magical hybrid , then could Focus work (i.E. Assassin in a kind of Ninja Style with improved Shadow Arts through Focus – i.E Shadow Clones for example with Mantras).
I just hope for gods sake, that if it ends up to be the Rifle, that it won’t turn out as garbage like a Sniper, but instead ends up as something alot more useful and creative, like a Saboteur, what would be a concept, that could work very well with Mace, Axe, Rifle or Torch.
After this I want to see first a Quarterstaff wielding Martial Artistical Thief- E-Spec to happen and a Rogue with either Mace, Axe or Longbow.
That are fitting E-Specs, not such nonsense like Samurais that have no place in this game world.
Samurais were nothing else anyways, than “Warriors” and thats exactly what we already have. GS swinging Warriors… so everythign you basically ask for is an samurai armor skin, and that basically already exists also to in the form of an Outfit.
That Dragon Armor Outfit as a Warrior used with greatsword suits perfectly fine the image of an “Samurai”, when combined with the delaqua family blade skin that is that katana of marjories sister.

Can you take a chill pill and see it was a joke (due to GS is dominating weapon for gw2 so took the less lickely class to get it and joke about why they are getting it).
I feel sry for you that you took this much time out to justify reasons against a joke that wasnt meant to be true or wanting to be true.
Most players and I too think it will be LB or Rifle (even said it at the start that I think its Rifle/LB and this was a joke topic).
I think it depends a lot on the name of thief’s specialisation.
If it is an assasin: the riffle
If it is an samorai (or something simular): then it is a greatsword
If it is a minstrell: then it is a focus offhand (and maybe a new onhand too e.g. a scepter).
kitten far it is rumoured to be the minstrell, I suspect the last.

Right now, the only thing I can’t do with a thief is taking down key targets while defending from the battlements in WvW. I don’t always have supply to build something, or siege disablers. And I don’t want to go down there against the zerg.
The shortbow just doesn’t work for that, and the pistols have too short range.
So, the best weapon for a thief right now would be a rifle. So I can take the rifle out and shoot at those guys trying to build siege in front of the door, or the guys manning the rams and catapults.
Then we can look into something more interesting, like “torches for juggling”: and a melee staff to go better with acrobatics themes
Just remember the themes of thieves: Rogues, scoundrels, assassins, hitmen, acrobats, tricksters…
So for a 2h melee weapon, nothing fits better than staves for thieves.

LB can work too, 1200 Range, here are some examples/ideas for LB
1) Keen Eye: 10% chance to gain 100% chance to crit next hit
2) Explosives Bola: Blast Finisher, Cripples all enemies -10s CD
3) Incinerating Coals: Combo Field Smoke – 15s CD
4) Hidden Archers: Summon 2 Thieves to fire a volley of shots on target foe
5) Single Flare: Stealth you (3sec) , AoE that will Reveal stealth players (doesnt break stealth) 30sec CD
These might not be the Best ideas, but just saying it doesnt have to to Rifle. I’d rather is be LB personally, but wont complain if it is rifle

Yeah that’s the spirit! But I think it would be even better if some mesmer were playing a charming music on their focus minstrel!
Focus.
Why?
Because Bard.
it’s going to be a torch because in the human personal story, the bandits were using a torch.
Sure . . . so long as I “backstab” with my GS! lol
On a more serious note inappropriate for the general tone of this thread;) -
As far as I know the idea that thief will get a rifle came from one brief picture in a very early scene of devs playing that may or may not have actually shown a thief with a rifle. Or has there been more than that? Honestly, I’m not certain that thief will be getting a Rifle. The reason is the same as its always been: PvP. PvP is why the thief short bow range got nerfed and why the most range a thief can get (other than shortbow 2 I think?) is 1050 via pistol plus a trait. The fact that this limitation makes certain basic face-tank easy PvE content either worthless to bother with^ or simply just annoyingly disadvantaged^^ to complete as thief probably doesn’t matter enough for ANet to ignore their balance PvP first and PvE never credo.
I hope I’m wrong about the above but I doubt I am.
Probably thief will get one of these: axe (main and/or off hand), mace (main and/or off hand), torch (off hand) or focus (off hand). I would not be surprised if it was a torch off hand. Goes with the idea of a Explorer/Tomb Raider type – which is pretty much what Dougal Keane was. Dougal was sort of an Indiana Jones type protagonist and the “first” GW2 thief introduced in “Ghosts of Ascalon.”

^Megadestroyer – here take your pistol little thief, stand in the lava that will defeat you in less than a handful of seconds and ping the big bad destroyer or just stand on the tip of one of the rock outcroppings with 20 other characters and get downed by its big attack you cant dodge even if you could see it coming through the particle effect ‘cause your on the tip of a rock out over lava and you don’t want to dodge into the lava (see first option).
^^Golem Mark II – go ahead and melee or pew pew it with a pistol at 900 range just don’t lag you know cause insta-down static electric fields are no fun.
Acrobatics trait line. Then sell it back
to them for $50. Brilliant! – ghost of P.T. Barnum

Thief will probably get torch. Just makes sense thematically.
I don’t see thief as a 2-hand class.

I don’t know.. I can kind of see a shortbow working. As well as a rifle or a melee staff.
All elite specializations we’ve seen so far focus a bit more on a particular theme of the profession. And the themes of each profession are seen in their trait lines.
The weapons I see working for thieves in specializations are:
- Offhand sword for a more ‘deadly’ theme.
- Rifle for a more ‘hitman’ theme.
- Torches to juggle or to make smoke and shadows.
- Melee staff to dart around the battle and rely more on evades than stealth for an even more acrobatic theme
- Whip, a new weapon, because some must be added eventually, fitting a theme more in the ‘trickster’ side.
Focus.
Why?
Because Bard.
In the Guild Wars setting, mesmers are the artists, not thieves.

Nah it’d be staff. Called this along time ago. Part of “stick-fighting”.
mace wouldn’t work for this.

PS. I forgot the Warhorn as option lol, but nah, no chance xD

Its a Fantasy game we have Ninja’s we can have Samurai…. its just for looks Anet can do what they want, IDK why youre so kitten about samurai lol.
lol, yeah, we have ninjas.. as Outfit again :P but not as seperate class or something like that where it again would make no sense.
Stuff like that would make sense, if there would be again an explorable CANTHA, where it does fit to the continents and lores theme of that continent.
But there is yet no Cantha, and I doubt that we will ever get to see an explorable Cantha and Elona ect., because therefore is still way too much unexplorable in Tyria and still too many Elder Dragons in Tyria to be slain, before we have time to set foot on Cantha/Elona again or maybe any other new explorable Continent, like the wish to be seen Utopia maybe as a new continent, if it was a continent name to begin with at all in planning for the originally intended 4th campaign, that giot then shortcutted into EotN and some new explorable Tyrian territories, that now aren’t explorable again in GW2 together with many of the old iconic places, like the Crystal Desert, the Fire Ring and the Northern Shiverpeaks >.>
The point is simply, Tyria is still a very westernized “european” style continent, like it was in GW2. It makes no sense to introduce in that part ofv the game any gameplay mechancis that have asian terms, like Ninja, Samurai, Katana, Kunai, Wakizashi and so on… because it doesnt thematically fit to the world of Tyria as continent.
Thats also one of the Reasons, why we have now in GW2 THIEVES and not like in GW1 “Assassins”.
We have since 3 years now a huge Cantha Thread, that is more a waste of time, than anything else. So I just want to open peoples eyes, that anything asian/cantha related will mostly likely have zero chance to ever find its ways into this game, unless we come ever before the end of GW2 so far, that we will actually become able to re-explore again Cantha and have then also an explorable part in the game again, thats standing under a strong asian theme, where such terms like Ninja/Samurai ect. do fit to be seen then there due to there being a completely different culture, than the culture of those people that live in Tyria, so that it could become likely that we might get somethign like a Ninja/Samurai E-Spec somewhen maybe, because then these things wouldn#t look anymore so out of context to the rest of the game.
Lol… I think Samurai be cool as a Elitespec
EDIT: I know Cantha is Asia, but isnt it more so Chinese than Japanese? And if so Samurai are Japanese
