What Samurai have to do with Thieves? They were basically Japanese equivalent of Knights, highly trained warriors of noble birth in service of a lord (or small feudals themselves) with strict code of honor (Bushido). While thieves are honorless criminal scum (just look at Steal ability).

Thief already have 2 melee weapons but only 1 ranged and its 900 range. Rifle make sense because bandits use them. I like to have GW on thief too but first i want 1200 range weapon.

Agreed on rifle, but disagree on any weapon. Let’s hope they fit weapon choice into lore. GW2 Thief is based completely off of the GW1 Assassin.

Why would LB be out and not rifle? LB fits MUCH better (IMO) and it is somewhat based off of the SIN, but not the class itself just some of the Weapon attacks and utilities. To me the Sin is NOTHING like the thief in anyway.

Rifle is stupid and doesn’t fit. They’re not Rangers. Precision yes but shadow arts and agility doesn’t work at all. WTF is the point of max ranging when you’re agile/stealthy. A GS works better than a rifle if they gave it slow dmg with heavy stealth options. Mace obtains its damage off the sheer force of impact and requires NO precision which is uncharacteristic of thief. STAFF requires both agility AND precision and was used in GW1 for Shadow Arts. At end of GW1 they released a scythe with a melee Staff skin and melee staff has already been verified in HoT. There’s no doubting the staff

100% chance thief will not get GS now.

If anything I would bet on Rifle or Mace.

Engineers have rocket hammers. Logic in fantasy can be twisted for the sake of fun and interesting, so let’s not get hung up on that. Rifle fits in that it is a 1200 range weapon that thieves don’t yet have one while every other does, thus filling a niche, and, if we assume each weapon will be unique, the fact that Guardian’s Dragonhunter has an LB means that LB is already taken and thief won’t get it. Plus, logically, sniping can be very thief-y.

I’m betting on rifle with gadgets.

I can see the staff working at some point in time. But now we already have the Revenant’s melee staff and we have the thief-like character in the trailer who is holding a rifle.

They have enough weapons to not make one redundant, so yeah, there’s little to no chance we’ll get two specializations with the same new weapon.

They have enough weapons to not make one redundant, so yeah, there’s little to no chance we’ll get two specializations with the same new weapon.

But we will get more than one Elite Spec down the Road, they will have to overlap weapons (if they keep making Weapons a Part of it), no there is no reason to wait to overlap if its a good idea for them atm.

I see nothing wrong or Redundant with using 2 of the same weapon atm.

It means they aren’t ranged attackers. There’s a reason they have 900 (mid)range. Staying at range completely nullifies STEAL as it puts you in their face which is a key mechanic of Thief in case you didn’t know.

No max range doesn’t allow you to utilize stealth better. It allows you to utilize it once. What would be the point of thief using Stealth if they just sit at max range? I do know snipers can be stealthy… until they fire. Their position is given and they’re forced to move. Where does agility come into play with snipers? It doesn’t.

GS works because their isn’t a font for sarcasm.

Thieves don’t always have to be stealthy.

They can be acrobats, and tricksters. Jump around, distract, evade, interrupt…

Then again, a staff goes better than a greatsword for that.

Focus = Bard = In the realms of possibility.
Rifle = Sniper = Personally hate the idea.
Greatsword = Samurai = Better than rifle but still not thiefy.
Torch / Warhorn are too bright / noisy for a sneaky thief

I can see thief with GS. I just don’t see it happening so soon and with redundant weapons. Your point that the elite specs will eventually overlap with each other’s weapons is valid and true, however what we’re saying isn’t that they will never overlap but that ANet will likely not overlap them on their first round of specs while there are plenty of options. It is a perfectly sound assumption to jump to that weapons won’t be doubling up in this round of specs.

Thus, GS is out this time because Necro.

And I don’t see how thief with a rifle is so bad.
