Um, you CHOSE to wait for this event so blaming Anet for you deciding to wait is nonsense. If you knew it was going to start in 2 hours, why didn’t you go do something else … oh right, because it would have been a less awesome QQ thread if you did that.

Do you even understand the issue the OP has ? No ? Well then it would be nice at least if you would stop posting nonsense.

By comparison, the Matterhorn Bobsleds ride at Disneyland lasts just a little over two minutes, and on a really busy day, you might have to wait a couple of hours in line (though probably not).

So think of it like waiting in line for an amusement park ride, only longer, and less fun.

In comparison to your comparison, Wii bobsledding is instant-access! I mean there are many reasons we play electronic games, and one of those is impatience – one reason I play PvE or WvW instead of PvP, where I’ve got to wait in queues to play. =P

But timed events aren’t a huge issue – unless they require insane co-ordination of so many people like TD does. If there’s a real issue, it’s that half of the DS map is inaccessible on a 2-hour timer unless you at least join a full map, let alone the fact that you need to join a successful one even if you’re just there for exploration.

Been there, punned that.

This problem is the same with any world event. You’re years late if you only just play on one map and now complain that the shatterer only spawns every 3 hours or so.

This is no different than it was on launch, except players are hyper focussed on one achievement for which they need this one specific event to not go wrong for. That achievement should be changed, the event itself is probably fine.

What could be interesting however is a mini “worldboss”/mapmeta cycle for just HoT so that lazy players have some incentive to cycle maps.

Have you really do anything that requires true coordination to win, and you need to come 1.5 hr earlier or the map is permanently fulled?

From the sound of it, I bet you never win Chak Gerent before.

Shatterer is a really bad example because people come at last 5 minute and can still face-roll the boss easily. There’s nothing you need to “wait” for it. You can do whatever you want and join in last minute and still be the boss.

Eh, but the TD Gerent is a taxi-in boss too. Sure, the map fills in a hurry, but you can come for the event alone if you get in 5-10 mins ahead.

The issue with the Gerent is that even groups who stand around taxiing and discussing CC and numbers and everything for 20-30 minutes often fail the event within the first few minutes… There’s a lot of demand for organization that anything short of a big TS3 guild is likely – but not guaranteed – to fail.

Those people who won were there an hour ago, and if you’re in that map, you’re just lucky someone that been there for an hr trying to recruit more people just in case.

Don’t I know it… except even when you run through full meta-event trails on the map with commanders/etc on a full map… there are early fails. Found that out the 2-hour 8-minute way, like the OP. =/

Exactly. You’re just proving my point.

I’ve been in several guild team that were extremely close (Got 2~3 bosses down and one boss 5%, usually SCAR due to bugs Anet never bother to fix), and the waiting is real. You HAVE to been there at least an hour earlier. Also most Meta events are over in 30 minutes, and after that the event numbers in that map drastically decreased, making the map less enjoyable.

Over time, as people learn the fight and begin to actually change their builds if they want to succeed, the fight will get easier and easier. Definitely not to the point of Tequatl, but it will still become easier. It’s nice to actually have a challenge, but unfortunately a lot of collections are based around it, so people are getting frustrated. Just keep cracking away, and eventually you’ll pull out a win. Like me, aha, with the timer literally at 0:00 as the final boss died =)

Or players won’t bother such as the 3 headed wurm unless they are (or join) in a large event guild like TTS. If players can all work together and eventually get it done then good, but the other option leads to some very dull, empty maps.

IMHO Teq is pretty much the highest scale they should shoot for when designing open world content. Going much higher don’t make average players buckle down and learn the mechanisms while wasting their time on failures, it only makes them not bother.

The more I hear, the more I think this isn’t a game issue. SO you have a dude, just sitting around waiting, probably getting 150% participation, then his map fails meta after 8 minutes … and people seem to want to defend him because he copmplains the wait is too long? /losthope

No game should accommodate such lazy gameplay. You guys win … Anet should just mail you whatever gear you want, no work required. Have fun with Dress up Wars 2

So…do you know of some better way to run a large scale event like this more frequently? Cuz if you run this every 30 minutes, there’s no way you’ll maintain the participation needed to have any chance at success.

Not saying it doesn’t suck to wait, but unless you have any constructive feedback to do any better…

How long have triple trouble been out already?

Do regular casual players change their gears /classes/stretagy against it?

Nope, they just gave up and move on to something else.

Let’s get real, too few people actually care about what class/gear is optimal for serious contents. They won’t try to make a Zerk Ele, Zerk Herald, Zerk Berserker just so they can beat a Meta Event. They want to use their not-too-optimal classes/gears and sneak in an optimal organized team and get the credit.

Personally, just like raids in other games, I don’t have 3.5 hours of wait and play time all that often so the odds of me completing this gets slimmer and slimmer as time goes on. The fact of the matter is this time frame is horrible for an open world event and the fact that it locks away a good chunk of the area in the expansion that I paid for is aggravating.
I don’t know what the fix is but all in all this was a poorly thought out design at least long term. I don’t really need to state this as it has been said many times before but yes it flies in the face of “no more standing around waiting to have fun” bogus claim.

If waiting is a guaranteed success, then it becomes an easier pill to swallow. However some events like TD are generally gonna fail (99%?) of the time so as time goes by it becomes a huge waste of dev time as the map sits empty. Maps like AB did it much better, yes it is on a timer (yuck), but generally speaking a few dozen players can complete the meta and the loot is more or less guaranteed.

The waiting wouldn’t bother as many players, myself included, if the shiney was indeed at the end of the rainbow. As it is now though to add insult to injury you not only get to wait, but you usually get nothing out of it. When you have a job, family, or any life outside of the game you begin to see why some meta events will soon be allocated to the realm of the 3 headed wurm. No matter the shiney is offered at the end some things are just not worth giving up so much free time for by the average player, and the devs need to pay attention to this IMO.

To sum up the problem with TD, it’s the combination of the relatively short event chains (that are typically done in 30-45 minutes) combined with the long map cycle (2 hours) capped off by a meta event that is most likely going to fail. If you show up at the beginning and complete the event chains, you’re probably at 200% participation but there’s not much left to do for another 45+ minutes if you want to get the bonus currency from the meta failure (or unless you enjoy wandering around while covered in chak goo all the time).

(And if you pop in during the middle of the cycle on a map that’s had all chains completed just to pick up an achievement or something, there’s really no reason to ever stick around for the meta because you’ll have to work extra hard for participation and you know the meta is going to fail.)

All around, it’s a pretty unfun experience, possibly equaled only by the level of fun involved in being one of the first people in the AB meta to win a challenge, so you get to sit in an exalted armor for 12 minutes doing nothing while the game yells at you after 30 seconds if you don’t move.

There really isn’t a two hour wait for the TD meta event. To be completely honest it’s more like half an hour of actual waiting if you get in a map trying to organise. While the two hours is counting down you could be defending tarir, killing the mouth of mordremoth or doing outposts in verdant brink. There’s loads of content to do in that 2 hours. It is only a wait if you choose to stay in TD.
I would say, for someone not interested in anything else, a one and a half hour wait would be better (one hour do do events, half an hour to organise), but I think the wait is good as it gives me time to do other stuff and it also gives enough time to organise the event, which is essential with events as hard as the chak gerent is.

Good luck getting back into that map. You are mad if you leave a map that is organizing and has even a sliver of a chance at being successful.

It’s terribly designed. You can literally just watched your participation blow off into the wind.

And then a lane fails.

This isn’t on the level of triple trouble. PUG’s have beaten this, and for the past few days I have been organzing PUG’s with one other person and we get the final boss to like 3%, 1%…. So very close. This isn’t on the level of TT. The fight is not that hard, it’s just DPS and having a capable commander in Nuhoch. Over the days I have seen improvements, and many a time I have seen a very close to won event. Over time we will see less of a need for commanders to explain the event, and more people will know what they are doing (less people who don’t know what they are doing screwing it up). I think this is somewhere in-between TT and Teq.

And as for zerk…. People aren’t going to be changing their build to zerk because of this one event. People will be changing their build to zerk (and most already have/are) because zerk is the best way to beat just about everything in the game. Most people already are zerk or something very close to it.

It is more difficult than TT.

There weren’t that much mechanics but some of the mech(mushroom) is more difficult than anything in TT. It also has much a tighter DPS timer and harsh punishment(fail one phase and you die). So even when everyone know the mech, the difficulty doesn’t reduce much, pugs still need to bet on luck a lot.

Even now, only 1 month after HoT was released, many people already give up on this meta, you can see how many are doing this compare to the other ones.

The TD meta has a 2 hour cooldown before it begins again, and my latest attempt at it lasted for 8 minutes and 18 seconds. I hadn’t even finished the first song in my music playlist before the event failed.

8 minute songs are pretentious, you deserved to fail for listening to that crap

* And with that, all the Yes fans in the thread humphed and stormed off with an air of ruffled indignation, turning their heads away so the others couldn’t see them bravely fighting back tears. *

Yep, other meta provides much better gold and rewards.

Expansions usually have better loot than old content, not worse. What happened to risk / reward?

This problem is the same with any world event. You’re years late if you only just play on one map and now complain that the shatterer only spawns every 3 hours or so.

This is no different than it was on launch, except players are hyper focussed on one achievement for which they need this one specific event to not go wrong for. That achievement should be changed, the event itself is probably fine.

What could be interesting however is a mini “worldboss”/mapmeta cycle for just HoT so that lazy players have some incentive to cycle maps.

Shatterer doesn’t FAIL almost every single time, after all the event-ing and organizing
Shatterer doesn’t have a mastery point hidden behind a wall only a successful event can remove
Shatterer doesn’t have half a map’s worth of achievements tied to successful completion of the event

It’s actually even worse than the triple worm.

Because it was still NEW, but compare to SW, VB, AB and DS, it already got much fewer people. After a couple more months and the release of new content, it would become worse and worse.

It’s a meta event for open world, you don’t know who are you going to get and you can’t make sure they know it or not. The Nuhoch line isn’t hard to understand, but it’s very hard to success, plus the DPS check so even when people know the mech, the difficulty is still quite high. That was worse than TT.

The just increased the event rewards in the latest patch, even for failing. And because of all the collections this event is tied to, it will most likely always be relevant and people will always need/want to run it. This is not the case for TT.

TT and the Chake Gerent meta are quite different.

TT is mostly about numerous mechanics and coordination. It requires good communication and command. With more and more experience it will get much easier, but people are still giving up.

TD meta isn’t that complex, it just have some super hard mech and tight DPS check. It’s not really relied on communication much. So it won’t reduce that much difficulty with experience unless we have new skills or gears.

I think what you have stated just echoes some of our sentiments, and unfortunately their will always be the do-gooders hoping to curry some favour or respect from Anet and players alike, yet their single opinion is meaningless in the grand scheme of things when so many people have already left, its like 1 versus 50 (youre opinion versus the 50 that have already left). I loved WvW, and even being on a Gold server, the maps are empty every day when we have one of the most active WvW communities. The maps imo are no longer personal, who wants to do PVE on a WvW map? and to run from one side of a map to another to protect a camp is ludicrous, so the old map, faithfull EB is full and has a que in prime time, what does that tell you?
I don’t hate HoT, and appreciate the time, effort and whatever it took to create it, its just that every time I want to do a Meta event on the map, its generally empty until you start the taxis, and as for Chak Gerrent, I’ve done it with community and failed 3 times with them, and about 5 with randoms, go have a look at the map as I type, its empty, and unless you have 4 people prepared to tag up and wait for the map to full, its pointless, and the reason its failed? because their are players on the map who refuse to do the event and are only their for the HP’s pois and Vistas, and they will tell you they don’t care to do it, so how do you tackle that?
I have 16 toons and have done all 4 maps fully completed 6 times so far, but again, the ascended gear I have gotten from here, from mystic has all been nerffed to the enth degree, and with every patch it becomes worse. To me that’s sad, as I enjoy playing, but play for rewards, purpose, gear, but above all so I can enjoy my time on here. So my effort to finish a level 80 map is a lev 76 weapon or armour piece and to top it all my Sigil today was worth 11 copper on the TP, Oh and those advertised weapon skins in the Black Lion Chests which I by from time to time, 10 chests 1 SCRAP!
Yes I have a choice to play or not to play, but its good to put you’re frustrations down in the hope that someone that can make a difference will read these posts, and do something before more players are lost (and that excludes players and their 5 cents opinion, as that’s all it is) .
Do it before its to late, please!!

Same with Gerent, most of the pugs can’t last 1 phase.

After they leave you are gonna have less people to do it. What are open world meta made for? To let (as many as possible) pug players group together, meta like TT and Chak Gerent made the opposite effort. People are even arguing for the conflict of meta and HP.

The problem is that they designed it in such a way that you can ignore all the other content in the first place.

The entire idea of every HoT map (and silverwastes for that matter) is that you show up on the map and do events, and after a while you end up at the boss meta.

People learned really quick that you can circumvent the silverwastes prep phase via taxi, so anet decided to put the HoT events on a timer.

I don’t think there’s anything anet can do outside of making literally every event be a boss phase to change that. It’s really your fault, not the game’s that the only thing you want to do on the whole map is the boss event. The boss event is a very small portion of the content.

They built raids, fractals, and dungeons for people that want to walk straight in to boss fights on demand. That’s what instances are for. Content spawned just for you exactly when you want to do the content. Open world bosses are on a schedule because they’re open world zones, and thus can not be expected to revolve around your schedule.

The only problem with TD meta is that it fails so easily, not that it’s on a timer. If they simply added more time to the gerent spawn events it would be just as difficult as the other metas, requiring coordination but not instantly failing because one lane was a little light for ten minutes.

Don’t know what PUG’s you have seen, because I’ve never seen a phase one fail. It’s usually the second phase of the lane mechanic that Nuhoch fails, and if they succeed then it’s most likely all down to DPS as they are not likely to fail the third one.

Oh yes, because it’s such fun to endlessly repeat the same events, then lose all progression because your map is one of those that has already given up (sometimes after starting out with ’let’s do this’). Not to mention the constant failing.

At this point, all I want is the mastery point in the strongbox behind the wall and the Gerenth kill I need for the mistward armor set. Loot? Pff, I’m one of those RNG outliers on the unlucky side, I can’t even get plated armor tokens.
