This thread is not about ‘what new players get’ or ‘false advertising’. There are other threads for that.
The point I want to make is: given the content we’ve been shown, HoT is not worth $60. That’s the real price for most continuing players who want to make a Revenant without deleting an existing character. I don’t mind that a new player can make 5 Revenants for $50, but I do mind that I can’t make a single one for that price.
I don’t care how they choose to do it, but A-net needs to make a Revenant character available to me for $50 or less. I will wait to buy until I get a deal that allows it.

Back in February, when HoT was being announced, I saved up 150 gold and bought a character slot. That slot has been empty since February.
I don’t understand why people are crying about character slots at all.

The dev team has proven they can’t balance a 2×4 on a cinder block.
A character slot should not cost ANYTHING extra when you are getting an expansion with a new class. Not REAL money nor the time it takes to get FAKE money. It shouldn’t come out of our pockets.
New players are only going to have 5 empty slots at launch.
I currently have 9, all four extra slots being gold purchased, most of them maxed and ascended. Time and effort.

Back in February, when HoT was being announced, I saved up 150 gold and bought a character slot. That slot has been empty since February.
I don’t understand why people are crying about character slots at all.
I’m not crying. I have 15 characters, most with skins, extra bag slots, makeovers, etc. that I have purchased. Time is money my friend. If I grind gold for a slot, that time is the same as $10 to me. So, I’m willing to pay $50 for my Revenant + HoT content, period, not a penny (nor a grinding minute) more. It’s not entitlement, it’s economics.

That’s not true. Each character slot costs ANet some amount of money, since it involves storing that character data on their servers. It means they need to keep track of all your character’s stats, equipped gear, inventory space, selected skills and traits, active dyes, soulbound items, map completion, completed story and other tracked activities, etc. I have no idea how much that costs them per character, it’s probably not a ton, but it’s not entirely free either, and is a continuous cost to them for as long as the game runs.

Yeah, I see that with the price of data storage being what it is, it might cost them close to 10 bucks eventually if I keep playing for a thousand years or so – and they never delete the data but only keep adding and flagging as obsolete (assuming the price for storage stays the the same during that period…)

Oh, no, that’s insane. The price/deal will not happen before launch, it will not happen at launch, there isn’t likely to be any sort of price drop until six months or more after launch. They might have a charaslot sale before that, like maybe 50% off that, but you’d still be looking at over $50 for both.
