Guild Wars 2

I am very pleased that Anet decided to compromise and sooth our troubles with a character slot, but I have a couple questions that worry me still, related to some of the wordings on their recent posts.

1. Will veteran players that buy HoT after it launches still get a character slot, or does it come only with pre-purchase?

2. The pre-purchase standard package price is $50, will the expansion price after launch be $50 aswell?

3. Do you plan on making sales on HoT’s price like you did with the core game?

Just seeing if pre-purchasing is worth more than waiting. I am pleased with what I’ve seen so far about HoT but I’m still not sure if it warrants the price of a full game, nor do I want to pre-purchase it only to find that at launch I’ll be playing in an empty server because everyone else moved to other games. On the other hand, a bonus character slot does sound nice.

1. No, it is for prepurchase only.
For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2® game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by prepurchasing and registering any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account.

2. Most likely since they said the standard and deluxe editions will continue to be available after launch, I don’t see why they would change the base price.

3. Again most likely, but I couldn’t guarantee this based on the information provided. They will treat it the same as the core game has been treated, so if you want to wait 3 years to get it for $10 then go for it.

I think it’s obviously likely that at some point, HoT will go on sale. No one can say how soon after its launch. It’s going to be a trade off all the time. Pre-purchase will get you special perks but you pay full price. Waiting will likely, eventually, get you a better price, but you won’t get perks.
