Q:

I have a question about that spec. Reaper’s Shroud looks cooler than the Death Shroud and I would like to play with Reaper’s Shroud, but I don’t want to wield a greatsword. Is it possible to put 1 point into the first minor trait (Shroud Knight) just to have an option to go into Reaper’s Shroud but still play with old weapons (e.g. axe)?

you are not force to use GS as a Reaper.

This. You can still use all the other weapons that Necromancer can already use. As for putting just one point in to get reaper shroud, that wont be possible in the new trait system. You have to max out every trait line you choose to use so you’ll have to go full on down the reaper trait line.

Also, when you go into reaper shroud, you are wielding a scythe, regardless of what weapons you had before. It’s like how no weapons are shown when you use death shroud now.

there is no one points at all any more.
you can pick 3 specializations.

you dont have to use a greatsword or the shouts, but you will get the whole line, or no line.
thats the way all lines work now.

That’s the way all lines will work, whenever the specialization update hits.

If you want to use Reaper’s Shroud, you do not have to use a Greatsword or any shouts. You can always pick core Necro weapons and utilities.

If you want to use a Greatsword or any shouts, you do have to use Reaper’s Shroud.

Why you would want to continue using an axe (a Necro’s weakest weapon) after the nerf it got yesterday and the upcoming nerf to axe training is beyond me, though.

It’s not a nerf, it’s a bug.

New animation plus different hit timing plus longer cast time plus updated tooltip? I highly, highly doubt it’s a bug.

I went back and checked a comment and it is indeed intended by Arenanet. The post is in the necro forums. Personally, the animation looks better for my charr. I don’t have a problem with it personally.

Necromancer can swap weapons, too. I plan to work with dagger-focus / great sword but you can trade the sword for anything.

I main a charr necro too and, while I like the animation, the 26% slower attack speed on what was already quite possibly the weakest auto in the game is rather terrible.

Yes, it is that large of a loss. Old cycle time was .95 seconds, new is 1.2.
