Apparently it has become a “thing” to intentionally place a merchant directly on top of a meta event chests so when you try to open the chest you end up talking to a merch instead. Now I can take a joke, but the last AB event had 4 merch set on top of the major chests. Yes, if I click four or five or seven times I will eventually be able to latch onto the chest w/my mouse. Yeah, I know this is “how” to get around it.

The point I’m making is there are jokes and there are jerks. This new thing carried to extremes is the act of the latter. I wonder how many people thought they opened the chest and ran on to the next one without realizing what happened. It wouldn’t be so bad but the frequency of this is aggravating.

At least it wasn’t a Mesmer portal.

Perhaps they could place a check in the activation code for BLMerchants that asks if there is a chest nearby…

Its been going on for years, not a recent thing.
Stand away from the chest and place your mouse cursor near the top of the chest and left click which brings up the name of the chest.
You can now move closer to the chest and the F key will now open the chest regardless of merchants.

There’s a booster that auto-spawns a vendor NPC if your inventory is full; it doesn’t require a troll.

Periodically, ANet has changed the priority of the [f]/interact function, for example, I’ve not had to avoid Bobblehead Labs in a while because other ‘nodes’ show up first without my manual intervention.

So, hopefully, they add this one to the list of things that should take less priority.

Always jerks in any game, and this game has more than its fair share at times. However there are far more players that are willing to assist, help, guide, port, donate, etc. It’s just a few immature players actions stand out more than those of the helpful majority.

I would guess that this is what’s happening, I see the same thing all the time near random Winterberry nodes.

It’s a minor inconvenience that’s easily worked around so it’s hardly a good “troll”, just a waste of a BL Merchant if that’s what they were using.

I thought that was only after harvesting, not just because your inventory is full. “Summons a Black Lion Merchant If Your Inventory Is Full after Gathering (20-Minute Cooldown)”. Perhaps opening a chest is classed as gathering too.
