I have all the MP’s I need for the 4 main HoT mastery lines without getting gold on these (not sure about the raid related masteries, haven’t looked into that yet). So it’s not a burning need right now, but I’ve tried the ones the OP listed and there does seem to be something really off about the mechanics and/or time limit requirements.

If gold is achievable in these then there’s some trick I haven’t found yet. Or my reaction time and click-twitch skills have slowed down too much with age to get it.

At least they do have some easier ones to get gold in, like Salvage Pit, Drone Race, Wings of Gold, Beetle Feast.

I want challenging content involving my using my class specific skillbar. Not content where ANET denies me that choice and forces a build upon me.
I want content where I control the camera. Not content that forces me into action camera mode.
I want multiplayer content. Not single player content that has been done better by offline games.

I want the only people talking about adventures to be the people who enjoy them. Which won’t happen while we are required to play those pathetic minigames to get enough mastery points to unlock everything.

Shooting gellary :I want bigger target and clear line of sight. Can Bongo cut some tree in there ? They’re evil anyway :P .

Punch-o-matic :can’t even get silver, skill too laggy to use.. Need some fine tune.

Fallen Mask :Need some tune on the timer due to rng. I clutch the gold after 3 days of trying…Pretty engaging for run and tag game though.

Floor is Lava : Not bother with that since I got silver, not my kind.

Rifle field test : It’s fun enough to master it.. I will said it’s already fine to achived gold. Not feel so rng like fallen mask and it won’t lock you out of adventure when meta happen too. clear 150 marks with 10 second to spare.

.

That’s my comment on those you mention. Other adventures is fair enough to gold.

As someone with gold in every adventure except punch o matic and fallen masks I wouldnt even mind if they did this for some of the harder adventures I already got gold in after many hours of practice.

A couple of these are just slightly over tuned and could be gold ranked by a lot more people by just adding 5-10 seconds to the timer. The floor is lava and scrap rifle test would go here, they are both pretty unforgiving and even perfect runs only beat the timer by a few seconds.

The RNG ones should only have 4 or 5 random placements that are tested and beatable, the way fallen masks and shooting gallery are now your ability to gold rank depends almost entirely on getting lucky spawns. Having a few orientations of the adventure and one of them randomly get picked would be better so you can at least practice. Also what is the point of a leader board when the adventure is random.

And lastly haywire punch o matic, as far as I know nobody has yet gold ranked this one so something is obviously wrong and this one just needs to be revamped.

If you’re going to do that, why not just remove Mastery Points entirely ?

Once someone has enough XP in a mastery track, they get the mastery rank. Let the content stand or fall based on how many people enjoy it and/or the rewards it gives, instead of making people do it by locking mechanical benefits behind it.

Don’t lock mechanical benefits behind bosses that aren’t guaranteed to spawn (Silverwastes Legendary bosses)
Don’t hide the real price of HoT behind microtransactions (Living story season 2 mastery points)
Don’t force players into pathetic single player minigames in a Massively Multiplayer game (adventures).
Don’t force players into grinding for armors and weapons they might never use (collections mastery points).

The problem with adventures is not the adventures themselves. It’s the fact that mastery points lock mechanical benefits behind them. They aren’t the only content in GW2 like that. Content that I only hate because I can’t avoid it. If mastery points were removed, the content becomes optional and I’d become indifferent to it and stop complaining about it. I might even like some of it because I’d only run it when I want to.

I dont mind them being hard.
What bothers me most is that they compared them somehow to the Gw1 Challenges that also had leaderboards and kind of same mechanic but for example fallen masks it’s all about RNG to get a good time and its kind of pointless to get a leaderboard to show which one has the most luck in spawns.

I agree with the Op…
These listed up adventures are way too unforgiving. They offer absolutely no space for any mistakes and even if you make them perfectly, some of them are so difficult that you either make gold with just like only 1-2 seconds left, having there absolutely no free space after that for competition or in the case of haywire its so extremely unbalanced, that gold is just absolutely impossible due to the terrible skill design of either the golem, or the chak beign bugged, that they don’t die on hit, but require strangely 2 hits to bre killed, when receiver over 150000 damage with all attacks …. yeah right
The skils of the golenm need to be redesigned, especialls the super useless Skill 1 and Skill shouldn’t pull together only like 5 chak, but absolutely every single chak that is in its area of effect for absolute most effectiveness, that if i can hit with that skill like 20+ chak and pull them together, that this skill also pulls then the 20 chak that stood in the AoE together and not just a little bunch of them…..

heres what i thinkl Anet should do with each of the listed up adventures:

Shooting Gallery

  • Make it an Instance so that you can play it whenever you want
  • Remove the RNG Aspect from it
  • Add some Speed Mushrooms to the Place so that you can move quicker
  • Make the Crosshair work correctly, so that its better to aim
  • Add a Zoom Function for better aiming

Haywire Punch O Matic

  • Reduce the Points for Gold from 230 to 175
  • Move Skill 2 to Skill 1
  • Add to the now free Skill 2 a new Skill which lets the Golem use a Laser Gun (like in the Personal Story Air Drop Mission) with that you will blast away all Chak in a line of sight in front if you in a range of like 1500. Slow animation and long recharge, so you will want to use it only for maximum effect when you will hit really alot of chak with it at the same time.
  • Reduce the recharge time of Skill 5 and fix its effect to let it affect all Chak that are standing in its AoE to be pulled together
  • Increase slightly the density of Chak in the Instance either, or let them slightly respawn faster
  • Fix the Damage/Hit Relation, so that every hit of the Golenm is instant killing and not that you need like 2 hits to kill and reduce the abritarely like Damage Numbers just to give us the pointless illusion of being super overpowered…. with instant killing attacks theres no need even at all for the spamming of damage numbers here..just would increase the game performance without the damage numbers everywhere in the screen every attack.

Fallen Masks

  • Remove the RNG factor
  • Increase the Time for it from 2 Minutes to 3 Minutes, because oftenly you have to run or fly across the whole room, losing alot of time.
  • Remove Fall Damage here
  • Make it an Instance, so that you can play it whenever you want accessible through n Exhalted that stands outside of Tarir, so that it doesnt get affected anymore from the AB Meta Event.

Floor is Lava?

  • Add more Time, increase it from 2:00 to 2:30
  • Remove Fall Damage
  • Or instead of increasing the Time, reduce the required amount of Points from 25 to 20
  • Or let the first 10 Points that you kick respawn a few seconds faster, so that you can make before the timer runs out a second tour with the first 10 points, as makign the first 10 points is easier, than making the last 15 ones that are on the backside of the room
  • Or add simply a few kickable spores more into the first half of the room, so that you can make more counting jumps from kicked spore to spore there, if you kick the new added ones on the tour around.

Rifle Field Test

  • Add more Speed Mushrooms
  • Increase the Timer from 2:00 to 2:30

In general also, all Mastery Points from the adventures should get lowered by 1 tier.
MP should be earned only by making first tiem Bronze and Silver.
Not Silver and Gold. Replace the one time Gold reward with a Treasure Chest that contains Ascended Crafting Material of Choice or a Treasure Chest with Map Currency +1000 or so so that you could for example buy after making 1 adventure to gold from the map currency trader directly yourself if you want the map currency vendor miniature reward or something else that costs there 1000 units of the map currency, or simply use it for something else, like a bunch of keys for the map meta event and the with those keys openable map unique treasurte chests..

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

Floor is lava is doable, just try harder, youtube a good route..
Field test and fallen masks I haven’t even attempted gold.

Shooting gallery on the other hand.. holy kitten I’ts hard for me to put into words how awful this adventure is. The action camera is so bad…lol just horrible. Why ? Can I turn it off while I do that ? Targets spawn behind trees. You can clearly put your cursor on it perfectly and shoot and the bullet flies for about 34 hours and still misses. When you click to fire it actually has a cast time or whatever you wanna call it. Why ? Who thought that was a good idea. Why does the fire have a delay ? It’s beyond kittened.
What ??!?!?

I know it’s a really small detail regarding the whole content of HoT, but these little things just really get me annoyed, especially if the design is not only lazy but simply idiotic.
I mean did the adventure designer guy have a meeting to introduce shooting gallery and said lets make targets spawn behind trees, have the bullet not hit the target when you actually aim for it and the fire has a CAST TIME/DELAY. Yeah OK TIMMY sounds GOOD. Oh and lets add the ‘ACTION CAMERA’ to make things more ‘interesting’.
Why does such a camera angle even exist ? Too much time on your hands ?

Yeah I’m mad cuz I tried to do this adventure like 5 times and failed and can’t even do it again because it’s nightfall. Who thought that was a good idea, I’m unable to play my kittening mini game because it’s dark ?

Erggh……..

Some adventures are WAY too easy tho, pretty much every other besides the 4-5 that I mentioned above…

Just saying.

I’m against nerfing any of the adventures other than Haywire Punch-O-Matic (nobody has been able to get gold yet). You do not need to get gold in every adventure. There are more than enough mastery points available. Based on what I have seen some people suggest, it seems they want to get gold by simply participating in the adventure rather than put the effort to earn it.

I have not hit the mastery point wall yet (close) but I did hit the collection wall this weekend. I needed a Silver in Fallen Masks as part of the Dark Harvest collection and I was raging mad but finally got it. The RNG is just ridiculous because most of my precious time was spent seeing where the next mask was. The mini map only gives a rough idea and the verticality of the map made it really frustrating blowing a ton of time almost every run on one or two masks I took forever to spot. If the route was fixed I know it would get a little boring but you could actually learn it and get better at your times.

I really really hate timers on anything so I avoid that content as much as possible so my biggest complaint is that these adventures are required for collections/masteries.

Timers are not ‘fun’ when they block progress.

Here’s a tip: some of the mini-games require certain masteries to get gold rating.

Like that one where you turn into a mushroom. I don’t think you can even get Silver without having the speedshroom mastery. I did a flawless run, no masteries, and was still 15secs from even getting bronze. Maybe there’s a shortcut somewhere I missed. But just normal speed, not getting hit by anything, not missing any jumps (I’m a SAB trib mode veteran, so I’m no jumpin’ fool), constant forward momentum, and I couldn’t get bronze.

I figured bronze would be what you would get by doing bare minimum, not full effort, but not getting lost or falling somewhere, no masteries required. Silver is the same, maybe with masteries enabled. And Gold is very difficult, where you might have to skip areas with clever jumping and masteries are a must.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

You know, in trying to do this Sanctum Scramble I can just see an Anet dev leaning back in his chair with a smug grin on his face while flipping me the bird. I watched a video showing how to do a “successful” 2.5 minute Gold run (I only need Silver) and all I learned is that the only way to win is to cheat. Apparently the cheat used in this video (I am told) has been since nerfed.

I would definitely be interested in seeing some metrics on the level of success people are meeting in some of these “adventures” (granted some are trivially easy but … many are not). I’m just not seeing how an achievement that requires 2 minutes and 30 seconds is possible legitmately when a player who was cheating needed 2 minutes and 28 seconds to complete it.

The only masteries I don’t have are the last two Itzel ones (lack of Mastery points). Still can’t do the adventures. Tried all day yesterday, have a blistering headache, shoulders like concrete and a foul temper as a result.

My reaction speed isn’t what it used to be, lag spikes (???!) disrupt efforts at the most frustrating moments possible and I didn’t think these adventures were ‘fun’ in any way shape or form to begin with.

Honestly, if I wanted to play Super Mario or FPS games, I’d be buying those.

Not just Oceanic mate. I’m Euro, have a decent enough ping, but I keep experiencing lag spikes which all my analyses say have nothing whatsoever to do with MY end of the internet connection. It’s definitely server lag.

GW2 has neither the latency, the interface or the mechanics for decent FPS mini games. They should never have introduced these horrors.

They are turning into another really stupid idea that probably sounded great when the devs were gathered around the table thinking of things to add. Sadly they forgot the gating behind meta events, lack of access to where they put half of them, server lag, ping trouble, keyboard skills and stupid timers.

I have zero desire to log in and do them. As I will shortly run out of mastery points to spend and yet have several lines of masteries still to do, it’s now got the stage I don’t want to go to the jungle maps at all, as any experience I gain will be wasted.

Hopefully they give us more time (or decrease the number needed) on some of these adventures for gold. If people want a real challenge from them, thats what the leaderboards are for. Let them compete to get the fastest time, but let the rest of us have a bit longer to actually get gold.

Yes, I also hate these minigames/adventures (whatever you want to call them). They are frustrating and it feels like the engine was not made for this. If I would want to play stuff like these minigames I would play a proper game like that.

Someone did without speed mushrooms. Even caught the attention of the Dev that designed that adventure.

Holy crap! So many shortcuts! That one at the end is nuts! That shaved off like 20secs!

How come when I use my #2 skill it doesn’t jump me nearly that far. Is there a timing on it? I hit 2, wait til I see ground target circle then click where I want to go and nothing happens.

It comes down to luck as that’s where I kept failing as the skill wouldn’t work properly. Supposedly they fixed that but I haven’t done it since then.

I support changing them, not because I don’t like a challenge, but because the difficulty for adventures are all over the place.

Some are FAR too easy to get gold, and some are incredibly hard just to get silve. It’s very inconsistent and poor design.
