From a reply I made to someone else:
—————————————————————
Part of the story is a test of leadership, which revolves around gathering and coordinating NPC allies to survive something that cannot possibly be survived by yourself.

Now if that story mission isn’t enough of a “Clue by Four” then I’m sorry but there’s really nothing else to say.

No, you can’t wander around ALONE in the worst neighborhood in the whole world.

What on earth ever gave people the idea that they’re supposed to be able to???

Team up. If there are no guildies available or you’re guildless then use map chat. We all have it there because these are not FTP zones. Stand at the entry WP and use say chat…

But stop thinking you can walk to your car by yourself. The neighborhood is way, way too dangerous for that.

And it’s supposed to be!!
—————————————————————

- You work together for the events in VB.
- Your entire storyline revolves around the idea of “find allies or die in the jungle”.
- Your role as “Commander” is to pull people together and coordinate with each other.

How many hints does ANET need to club people over the head with??

You have guilds.
You have map chat.
You have LFG.
You have say chat.

USE THEM.

Or, if you’re adamant about being able to do everything solo, then go to a zone that’s designed to be done solo. But STOP asking them to nerf the very few zones we have that actually require coordination.

People who want to be able to walk around alone already have many, many zones to do that in.

Those who want places that require more mature cooperation and coordination are happy with this.

Leave. It. As. Is.

Rant over.

I agree wholeheartedly. There are so many tools to find allies, I always considered “GUILD Wars” to be a game where you had to have the help of other people at some point.

Aowynne – Sylvari Mesmer – Level 80 – Main Character
Accalia Bloodblade – Norn Guardian – Level 80 – DPS tPvP Character
[TAOW] True Arts of War – PvX, Friendly, Fun & Recruiting

people are still in the “i’n not listening to a person who tells me what to do.” mindset, and THAT is not going to fly in HOT. my guild had to coordinate Dragon Stand, at first people wouldn’t listen until at the pods, and they still wouldn’t. But once we go to the mouth of mordremoth..oh my god they finally started to be more reasonable -.-

I agree. The tools are there. People need to make use of them more often.

LFG isn’t only for dungeon runs.

And if I try those and no one bites?

In all seriousness:

I’d stand at one of the few uncontested waypoints. There will be a steady stream of people reviving and, as they come through, I’d use Say chat:

“Are you tired of dying yet? LFM”

If nothing else, the people who are tired of dying will be much, much more amenable to calls for coordination.

No, you can’t wander around ALONE in the worst neighborhood in the whole world.

What on earth ever gave people the idea that they’re supposed to be able to???

The fact that the player character is supposed to be the biggest bad-kitten in all of Tyria?

Look at the story pre-HoT. At level 1, you become a hero of renown as your opening act, and come to the attention of some very powerful and important people. It’s not long before they’re taking your advice, and then looking to you for leadership.

You fly through the ranks of whatever order you join, and inspire such loyalty that people will sacrifice themselves for you. When Claw Island falls and Tyria faces its darkest hour, you’re the one that demands that everyone fight back and tells them that they can win. And when the three orders combine under Trahearne, its your advice and aid he relies on to pull off what was supposed to be his own destiny. You’re a one person army, and take to the front lines to fight causing the first Elder Dragon to fall before you.

When Scarlet appeared and ran roughshod over Tyria, you were the one that smashed her works to scrap and dust. When she attacked and destroyed Lion’s Arch, you were the one that lead the charge to break her forces and managed to personally drive a spike through her heart.

When the new threat arose, you were the one that lead the charge against it, before others realized just how large the threat was. You used skill and speed and ancient magic to perform incredible feats, buying everyone the chance to fight back. You are the chosen one, entrusted with Glint’s Legacy and the hopes of the entire world.

You are the chosen hero. You stand where entire armies fall. Your wrath and your will make the heavens themselves tremble.

When people around you say “It’s dangerous to go alone!” or “It’s impossible!”, why would you expect that to apply to you? After everything you’ve faced, should you really fear a bunch of Goombas and Yoshis? No!

Except… yes. Are you honestly surprised that people are caught off guard by that, given how things have gone before?

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

There is so much easy content in the game core PvE, Dungeons, Fractals(first levels), world bosses, etc.

Please don’t nerf the difficulty of HoT! I’m talking strictly about encounters, I don’t care about masteries and elite specializations. Make the first map more accessible, if you want, but please leave the rest as it is.

PvE in every other MMO is a brain dead autoattack grind, make this one stand out!

If it isn’t nerfed, when zones become dead or they try to move everyone to the next thing it will be impossible for anyone.

Unless it is changed in the future it will become a wasteland.

Levelling in Vanilla 1-80 now is absolutely nothing like Day 1.

Really? If that were so then Orr, Southsun, Dry Top and SW would all be barren today.

They may need to have the spawn rates tweaked as map populations dwindle but no, they don’t need major changes.

So much this.

I remember the “defend the bridge from the centaurs” event at launch lasting like 45 minutes and summoning 10+ champions per wave due to the sheer number of people playing scaling the event to peak capacity. Those events used to also be made for groups. They got nerfed (like nebo terrace) because they were borderline-impossible to take on solo after the content got stale and people moved on.

The same events are now hardly done because people have moved on.

Give it a few months and the PvE grinders will be back in the SW for cash/mastery of core Tyria, PvP/WvW players back in PvP/WvW, and nobody will be in the HoT maps.

Both those arguments are debatable. I still have trauma from Victory or Death where Destiny’s Edge stood by and watched as I tried to bring down dragons with the cannons while, at the same time, holding off risen. I wish a dragon would eat them.
