My friend is horrible at explaining things, could anyone possibly explain how I’m suppose to get this new expansion.

I had asked him if I had to buy/upgrade it and he said “yeah” and then he turned around and said that we had to go around unlocking all the new content.

So as you can see, I’m horribly confused.

I’m not sure about the unlocking part that your friend mention, but to do anything HoT related, as in things you can’t do right now, you just have to buy the expansion.

If I understand you correctly.

If you already have GW2 you need to buy HoT to access the new content, either in-game through the upgrade option or by buying it elsewhere and adding the key to your account. If you don’t already have it you also need to buy it, but you’ll get the base game with it.

But what you’re buying is the ability to access the new content, you do also have to unlock it by playing. For example you’ll have to find the entrance to each new map and explore it to unlock waypoints, you can’t just WP straight away after buying it. You’ll have to train the gliding mastery before you can glide, you’ll have to collect and spend hero points to use an elite specialisation, and so on. People who haven’t bought HoT won’t be able to do that.

Otherwise, HoT is an expansion to the current version of the game (the “core”), if you want to access to the new content in this expansion (such as Raids, Guild Halls, etc) you need to upgrade your current account by buying HoT (or buy a new version , but this wouldn’t make any sense as you’re already a player).

As you know, HoT is not released yet, so from here you have two choices:
- You can buy it now through pre-orders ( http://buy.guildwars2.com/ )
- Or you can wait until/after the launch of HoT (October 23, 2015)

Of course, you can also decide to stay on the core game (the actual GW2 if you prefer), but you won’t have access to HoT content.
