About the common complains
Don’t even bother man. They would complain about anything . Most of them were complaining even before the release.
You need to level up, but you always have the option to level up as what you want to play.
It would probably have been less of a deal if people had been able to get hero points on other characters. If someone wants to play a druid because of its heavy healing focus, they very well might hate base ranger’s almost complete lack of a healing focus.
It would probably be more enjoyable if they could get the hero points on say, a water elementalist and then unlock druid for a ranger once they have enough.
The same goes for ranged players who specifically avoided guardian due to its unsatisfying ranged weapon. They’d probably enjoy it a lot more if they could do the gathering on a ranger, and only switch to dragonhunter once they can unlock it.
For all that people hate on WoW and call it grindy, it never forced me to play a shadow or holy priest to level my discipline priest.
Yeah, people didn’t complain during the levelling process. So why are they complaining during the process of a new subclass? I mean it’s basically the same thing.
‘would of been’ —> wrong

Pretty much this. If you look at the post history of some of the most vocal complainers you’ll see that they were very outspoken and negative about the expansion months before even the first beta weekend came out. It’s the typical “see, I told you so!” -reaction.
On the other hand it’s not even as one-sided as it looks. It’s really a toss-up between people who dislike the new mechanics and those who like it. And that’s just on the forums. In the last couple days I played on the first new map I remember only two players voicing their displeasure of the new Mastery-system in the chat.
Hapless praise gets nothing done, the expansion is flawed for sure and goes out of its way to show both how much ANet has fallen and improved (these zones are gorgeous, grinding out the equivalent of leveling several alts, not so much)
And why do you want to END and UNLOCK the expansion content in just a weekend? Then what?
Couple of problems, I believe people wanted to play said content with their elite specialisation rather than be rewarded with one after, because as you stated “then what?”
As for the gating, if it was taken away, you feel there is only a weekends worth of content, so is that actually worth the price? So people may feel what they are looking at is content being stretch to fill rather than getting some substantial.
Of course this is just me taking a stab at what others seem to be saying, I don’t preorder games because it’s a ridiculous thing to do and I’m waiting for the price to drop to a price point I consider good value.
Oh, I don’t mind doing it once for each profession.
But I have 2-4 characters of each profession.
In GW1 you had skill trainers and skill tomes to get faster what you have already obtained before. But in GW2 that got removed.
So I would welcome having a way to speed up the process for additional characters.
For example, once a Berserker have been maxed and you get the Master acheivement, the other warriors could talk to a Trainer and spend quite some of several currencies like coin, karma and spirit shards to get an item that works like Notarized Scroll of Maguuma Heroics and gives no exp when used, speeding up the process at the expense of losing the exp from completing the hero challenges.

You can do it. Gradually, like every game. I have 8 professions, but I main my necro. Do you know how many HP before HOTS? 45…. because I played only WvW, I had only divinity reach and lion arch waypoint in pve. Took me like 1 hour get HP up to 75 to unlock reaper and GS.
The idea of an RPG is playing his content unlocking power gradually, and you will have full unlocking or almost only in the very end game.
