Account resources used during the beta.....

The email from ncsoft said “character and account-based development” and “spent currencies” won’t impact your live GW2 account. So what I’m curious about is once we create a new character and run around in the new area, (which I’m assuming will not be the same open world as all the other GW2 non-beta testing players but rather a new map entirely), will we be able to use tomes/writs of exp to get to level 80? If we throw on a complete set of exotic armor/trinkets/weapons, will all those resources get re-set after the beta or are they gone? I assume they will be restored after the testing.
So say for instance I get to level 80 with tomes/writs. I then transfer a set of ascended armor from bank to my new toon then run around and play, then !WHAM!…..internet outage (worst case scenario). I log back in, finally, after the beta testing is over, and all the stuff is gone off that character….poof.
Knowing my luck…..I’ll get 5 precursors to drop in 6 minutes and lose them all due to account rollback. Also, this is totally dependent on us even being able to get access to the bank at all. Just curious.

I assume there will be no shared resources at all between normal and beta characters.

Your character will be L80 once created. There may be no access to banks, TP, etc. from the map your character will be logged into. Likely, you will not be able to move your character from said map.
I don’t think you will have to worry about any of the things you’ve mentioned. But, yes, if a Precursor drops for you, you won’t be able to keep it.
^
A new level 80 toon will be made at startup. It may or may not be deleted at the end of the day. I am not sure if we will be able to deposit gathered materials (or even if there will be gathering nodes) or not.
I think the best thing to do is to just have fun! That’s what I’ll be doing!

I plan to be very careful, and if I can I’ll spend just ONE transmutation charge to change something. When the test is over, I’ll double check to see if the amount of them I have on my live account has changed or not.
Even if we can access the bank, I’m not going to risk anything more than that for a test.
Please report back on that, Palador. I don’t want to even spend that much, not if someone else is testing it for the benefit of us all

So how it was during the EOTM beta was pretty awesome. You went into an area that would give you instant level 80 and you could pick your gear, weapons, etc. They gave us I think like 400g but that was overkill since everything was either free or very cheap from the vendors. They wanted us spending time testing the map, not leveling or worrying about finances which was nice because I got to do just that. Once you had your build and gear ready, you just went into an Asura gate and you were in EOTM. It would reset every now and then but it wasn’t bad at all.
My best guess is that the HoT beta will be very similar. They want you testing the Revenant, looking around at any new UI, testing some features, stress testing some, and just having fun while they collect as much information as they can from a somewhat small sample size.
Also no, you didn’t get to keep anything from the test phase over to your main account.
The question is the other direction, will the beta test character have access to our account goodies? I’d hope not, but it feels a bit odd having the beta slot just mooshed in with our existing client.

Yeah, I can’t see how they’d allow that. You could dump items from the beta to your bank and then grab them on your main toons.
I would imagine it’ll be completely cut off maybe?

For a 2hr stress test are you really going to waste your time on using resources, transmute stuff etc. that time will pass so quickly between new game play, pvp and WvW (if it opens)

I would think that simply being present doesn’t fully stress the servers. If you have fully decked out toons running around doing mad particle effects, the servers will have to relay that information to nearby characters in the area so the effects are shown on their PCs. I would think that a map full of level 80 characters running around in vanilla gear would mean less of a load on the servers than a map full of level 80s with legendary weapon foot prints and swing effects, and particle effects coming off our specialty armors, and things of that nature. Now I know much of that is probably done client-side but the servers will still have to, as I said, relay the info to nearby players.
And besides….if you don’t ask the questions, you will never know. If you want to do the minimum…..be my guest. Since I was invited to help stress test the servers, I want to do all the things and see if I can break something. How else are we to get the best game experience out there?

The toons you make in beta will be deleted in between betas most likely and 100% for sure before release of expansion.

I fail to see the relevance of this statement. Additionally, there is no certainty to it, either. You are speculating. You may be spot on with it, but then again, you may not.
The email that was sent out states, “characters and account progress MAY be deleted at the end of the test period.”
Either way, it has nothing to do with the original posting. But thanks for your input.

My point is why waste tomes of knowledge etc on a toon that will be deleted? Yes acutally there is 100% certainty to it that you toons you make in beta will be deleted before official release of the expansion. Because someone got into this beta stressed test it doesn’t mean 100% that you will in the next beta test. I know from experience for testing many games.
Think about it Anet will not let the beta testers have an advantage of all the tings that they may unlock during beta testing over all the people that didn’t play beta on release day.
Thanks for your troll post!!! Have a good day I know I will.

You realize that this test is a STRESS test and not a FEATURE test right? So expect many things to be locked.

ofc many things will be locked
but how are we supposed to play without gear?
and if we dont have access to our banks they sure will have to give us access to free gear for the stress test
and we cant unlock any traits during stresstest (no time and i dont think we can enter the normal world with the beta chars)
so they will have to make all traits instantly unlocked if they want us to be able to play at all

They don’t have to unlock all traits etc so you can play, Anet will keep thinks locked as they don’t want to give away all the secrets as to what they are putting into the game. Especially when they haven’t talked about tons of things yet about the expansion and plus thing are always to subject to change.
Again this is a stress test not a play/feature test
A “stress test” is stressing the servers to see what load balancing they need to do and that’s is it plain and simple.

FROM THE OFFICIAL FAQ LINKED ABOVE:
What happens to all the items/gold/karma I get during the beta test? Will I get to play my beta character when the expansion comes out?
Your beta activity (including character development, account-based development, and currencies) won’t impact your live Guild Wars 2 account. Your beta progress will be saved for the duration of the stress test, but all beta characters and beta account progress may be deleted at the end of the test period.

The beta testing area is in the new map, which is a level 80 zone, so of course all the beta chars will be level 80.
The demo videos showed Revenants at level 80 wearing the new (unobtainable) Revenant armor and with several weapons available to them. I saw the hammer (with a currently unavailable skin) and 2 other weapons. I’m expecting the same. A level 80 character with a set of armor and weapons and a limited set of traits.

it’s a different server probably with copied account info. That’s how betas usually work.

For what it’s worth, I used one Transmutation charge to change the Rev blindfold into the dragon mask.
When I checked back on my normal characters, that charge was not subtracted from my normal total.
I’m still not sure I’d risk anything from a bank, even if I had a way to access it.

I deposited mats from my Revenants inventory but it wasn’t in my main bank afterwards. Specifically, a Charged Core that I got during the beta play time didn’t transfer over.
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I found the same.
I used a transmutation charge and when I checked afterwards on another character it hadn’t been used up, and materials I deposited into my bank didn’t appear there. (I was only able to confirm this with T6 mats, and only because I’m saving for a legendary so I happen to know exactly how many of each I have, but I assume it’s the same for all materials.)
I couldn’t find any way to access the bank or trading post and sending gold and items by mail was blocked.
